I'd love to know these "sources" people were referring to for almost a year that guaranteed we'd be playing Duke.

It's better that way regardless.
Says URI is the 2nd seeded team and they want URI and Duke to play for the Championship
Similar to how URI was matched up to play Maryland in Cancun

I would assume Cincy is the 2nd seed, they have 6 straight NCAA tournament births and return their top 2 scorers.

Memphis will play Providence and Iowa will play Virginia in the first round of the 2016 Emerald Coast Classic, sources told @CBSSports.

Rothstein is busy today with the Tournament news

Yes, you are probably right but we don't know how URI is going to be viewed with 3 Seniors and 2 Juniors in a veteran lineup. My KeaneyBlue Glasses are right now seeing Top 25

Cincinnati has Kyle Washington eligible after having sat out the transfer year from NC State. They were also hit be injuries last year. Will be interesting to see if Cincinnati or URI get into Rothstein's Top 25 to be released today.

We'll know really early if we are a threat to make it after this tournament.

Hype and hype only. We are EXPECTED to make the Dance next season, even though there isn't any track record.

Our new bigs are going to have to grow up quickly. EC will have to hit the ground running.

Our OOC schedule will be the toughest seen around these parts in many years.

Prove that the hype is real. For once.

I really hope we are NOT in that top 25 poll right now.

There is no reason we should be, anyway.

Win the tip off tourney. Beat PC, and a couple of other good teams, in November and December.

THEN it's top 25. Not until.

Otherwise, it's just a bunch of smoke up the ass.

Why? Please explain the upside to that.

Wouldn't it "help"? When was the last time Rhody opened at home ranked? What could possibly be bad (for the program) about that?.... Understood that this board is an uncontrollable hype machine (lol, in both directions), but...the casual fan doesn't see this board. The casual fan would likely know if the team was ranked and be more inclined to go if they were.

Regardless of the time of year....hoping that the team is not ranked ...seems a bit silly...?

208, people know better, I mean the general URI fan knows better when it comes to the hype, or at least they should by now.

This will of course create some measure of "buzz" around the program leading up to the season opener this November.

But they have to be convinced. Talk means squat. All of it will mean zippo if we do an el foldo to start the season against the better opponents we will play.

It's happened before, as we know, for whatever reasons.

That tip off tournament will tell us what we need to know, and pretty quickly.

Want big crowds at the RC next season?

When was the last time Rhody opened at home ranked?
What could possibly be bad (for the program) about that?

And I don't think you answered either question.

Forget about 'what people know'...and it 'meaning squat'...---> What possible downside is there to URI being ranked? I don't think there is any...and you haven't given a reason, so I don't think you believe there's a downside either...which makes me wonder why you'd say you hoped they weren't ranked...like somehow it would be 'better' if they weren't?

The season will play out the way the season plays out.

Being ranked preseason by a guy like Rothstein has no downside, only upside. It gives our recruiting staff something to brag about during the spring and summer at the AAU Events. It gives the program attention. AND you can say we are starting 3 Seniors and 2 Juniors. Guys who came here, stayed here and are now about to achieve success.

Given the choice of being ranked preseason or not ranked preseason - I'm all over being ranked. Jim Harrick teams were ranked preseason. Digger Phelps broadcasted Midnight Madness from a booth outside of Keaney Gym. Bring back those days please.

And whoever is in charge of Season Ticket Sales for next year just about burst a gasket. Preseason hype is just what the Marketing Department needs and it certainly doesn't hurt.

I have to say, I'm not sure we would sellout opening night even if we were ranked. People are going to need to see something first. That's just reality when you've had a two decade run like we've had. I do think, generally, a top-25 Rhody team will do well with attendance, but the caveat is that we have to do something to earn it, not just have some writers hand it to us.

Rambone...if the team is ranked for the first home game...they could play Narragansett High and sell out. I think the bigger question is, 'will they be ranked?' I kinda don't think so, but unlike you, I DO hope so.

When...was the last time a ranked Rhody team opened at home to less than a sellout?

LOL they were ranked in 2008 and I went to the one home game they had while they were ranked. There were probably 4000-5000 people there at the game against Duquense or La Salle or whoever it was. Being ranked is not an automatic sellout.

The game vs. Cincy and "potential" game vs. Duke is a tremendous scheduling coup. That's two RPI top-50 teams on a neutral court. Looks good in the eyes of the committee.

One advantage of a home opener is availability of Students and the short turnaround from Rhody Madness which should be a huge event next year. When we were Ranked around new-years in 2008, students were on winter break.

Since the home opener is usually against a nobody, I doubt it's anywhere close to a sellout.
