It's the 21st Century -- everything's public!!!! The more public, the better!!!!! This generation never paid attention to nor heeded the saying, "Discretion is the better part of valor." The more outrageous the behavior, the better.

Wow. If that's true, three concussions in a year, then it will be awhile before he ever suits up again

I would think he's done for the year if that's true.

Will he finish his career here?

"Junior point guard Mike Powell has asked for his release from the program, a move that comes in advance of a projected transfer. Sophomore forward Mike Aaman is out indefinitely after an off-campus assault early last week left him with at least his third concussion in the past calendar year. Fellow sophomore Jordan Hare remains at home in his native Michigan tending to his personal affairs, his future with the program in a perpetual state of doubt."

Let us PLEASE revisit the postings here around Dec. 30 where I challenged ANYONE to produce a scintilla of evidence that PLAYBOY EVER NAMED URI the # 1 party school in the whole of the US of A. I never ever want to hear this BS YARN again here or anywhere!!! As I stated before we were never even the biggest party school in RI and this rumor started in Providence either in Mt. Pleasant, or at pc or the BLOWJO. People responded with memories of their own party times at Rhody, GREAT! Everything is relative. Like I stated before this 50 year old myth is just that and no one addressed it or produced any evidence to the contrary in responding. Who would be proud of this anyway and having been connected with a URI frat from 1963 to the early 1990's I did my share of partying { toga etc. }. I did however get a big kick out of Rambone's recollection as a freshman commuter and the dorm gigs he attended in 1969. My first thought and vision was with all due respect to a commuter that the dorms were not co-ed yet and all I could picture were 3 guys, a case of beer and a jar of vaseline. Still waiting for that Playboy Article!!!!!

The dorms weren't co-ed yet, but that didn't stop girls from going there.

The RA's either looked the other way, or were nowhere to be found.

Butterfield Hall was Animal House, before Animal House. The movie producers could have learned from us.

As I remember it, it wasn't Playboy it was National Lampoon. No one remembers it because we left our minds on upper college road and fraternity circle during Rush Week. When every house on campus had open parties and it was an intoxicated house crawl. Still remember the 100 keg parties at Phi Psi. Insane. And the around the world parties in the dorm where every room made a big bowl of different drinks and you went room to room and got loaded.

bressler, that was 1987.

We're talking LONG before that.

We were full out bull goose looneys every night. In the afternoons, we were just getting warmed up.

We trashed the place [Butterfield]. People falling out of windows, you name it. We did us proud.

I once had a contest with a fellow "student" on who could cut the most classes in a week.

He went to one class. He lost. Moron.

I was thinking 10 more front court fouls from Aaman and Hare would be quite helpful to our rotation ...

Hopefully he'll be OK, and learned his lesson.

If not, I don't see him coming back next season.

In the meantime, being shorthanded due to his absence, is going to cost us games. It might have tonight.

Unfortunately, the lesson learned is that Aaaman let down THE TEAM.
When a coach talks about "character guys," well, he wasn't referring to, "The guy's quite a character."
When all is said and done, regardless of his intentions that early-morning, he's wasted a year of eligibility and development. Coach Carr's comments about Hare could have been as easily been applied to Mike Aaman…...

Agree, a wasted scholarship year, no potential red shirt, just the stink of three games lost by 4 points since the assault. I'm as done with Aaman, as I am with Hare. I'm looking forward to Watson scooping up the extra minutes next season.

I'm not going to be as hard on Aaman as some. I understand the frustration and the ramifications of what this means for him and the team and don't need that reiterated. It was a questionable decision made by a teenager with disastrous results. It reflects poorly on him, but I don't think he's a bad guy on the whole.

Sorry if this is obvious, but why isn't he eligible to apply for another year if he misses the rest of this season and is eventually cleared to play?

Nobody said he's a bad guy, or that mistakes don't happen, poor decisions by young men, etc etc... How many breaks do you get for being young before its more than that? By I'm done with him I mean on the court as far as the team is concerned I plan for an Aamanless future, if he proves to be an asset going forward and the coaches stick with him I'll reassess future teams with him in the mix, until then we don't need anymore of this kind of nonsense. As far as personal lives go, I don't wish ill for any young person and always hope for individuals to be successful. Next guy up, Earl Watson, I heard he's gonna be a beast! Moving on...

It's case by case. You have to apply for it and argue your case. There is no way to qualify for a med redshirt automatically. It is always applied for.

You apply for it at the end, after all other eligibility has been used. So that isn't something they'd have to decide right now.

Do I? Yes, but that's just me talking.

And the limit for a possible redshirt is 25 percent of regular season games, I believe.

If he can't see he can't play. It's also possible his orbital bone could have been compromised, which would also keep him out. Neither of those things would necessarily be obvious from a moderate distance. I'm hopeful that he can get back on the court this season, but no way to know now.

Here're the rules (Google is our friend!):

To qualify for a medical redshirt, a basketball player must sustain an “incapacitating injury or illness.” The injury or illness does not have to be related to basketball, but must take place after the first day of classes in the athlete’s senior year of high school. To gain a medical redshirt for a specific season, the athlete’s illness or injury must occur before the first game of the second half of the team’s schedule. If the team plays an odd number of games, the exact midseason contest is considered part of the second half. For example, if a basketball team plays 25 games, the injury or illness must occur before the start of the team’s 13th game. Games played in postseason tournaments, such as a conference tournament or the NCAA or NIT tournaments, count among the team’s total games played.
Games Played

To gain a medical redshirt, the athlete cannot compete in more than 30 percent of her team’s games within a season, not counting contests officially designated as scrimmages or exhibition games. When such computations are made, fractions are rounded up. For example, if a team plays 27 games, the exact 30 percent mark is 8.1. For the purposes of medical redshirt eligibility, therefore, the player may compete in nine games and still be eligible for a medical redshirt.
