A good early season road test for Rhody.

Coached by legend Larry Brown, SMU won their first game of the season against TCU, 69-61. Illinois St transfer Nic Moore led the way with 13 points. Ryan Manuel had 12 and McDonald's All-American and local kid Keith Frazier had 11 in his first collegiate contest. Watch out for Frazier, he is gonna be a good one.

It looks like they will be without their leading scorer and rebounder from last year, Jalen Jones. He didn't play in the win against TCU in an apparent disagreement about playing time.

Then he tweeted this just a few hours ago

That's surprising news about Jones. I remember wondering how we were going to match up with him, he was really a strong player last year even though IIRC he did not perform well against us.

I don't know what type of kid Jones is although the fact he is bailing on his team at this point in the season should tell you something.

Having said that, he is a major talent. Do we pay him a visit on Monday while in Dallas?

The spread is SMU -6. I think that's a pretty fair line, but i would lean towards taking Rhody

This should be a good game. There are a lot of similarities between these two teams right now- second year rebuilding projects, both working in 7 new players each and down a guy they were counting on, promising young guys, each team expected to finish near the middle of their respective conferences. Frazier is a huge get for them and more highly regarded than Martin or Matthews. SMU does return all their starters from last year, but not all those guys are starting this year. Both coaches will have to do a lot of roster and ego management this season.

This is a winnable game. All depends on which team is farther along toward their potential.
I think if we play well, not great, we win it. I would think a step up from the Maine game, will do it.

That, and better perimeter defense. The only worry to me is, it's our first road game, and against a good team. With all the new guys, it'll be tough, but doable.

This game will also be a snapshot of our upcoming NIT road games. Win this one, and the level of optimism goes way up for those games. If not, well......

Dan said on the Cox post-game interview that he will be putting together rotations that are less experimental tonight, meaning our very best players will be on the floor the longest. This should be really interesting.

I would like to see that the Italy travel experience pays some dividends here......especially this early in the season.... also want to see how the 'stangs and Coach Brown adapt to the rule changes......maybe a three point player emerges from our lineup......

Home court advantage should be a bit less being played about 10 miles off campus. This helps URI.

I'm not sure if it's common knowledge to everyone, but I'll put it out there anyway...

Anyone who is going to be streaming a bunch of Rhody games on their computers this season either thru ESPN3, COX (out of staters/Verizon customers), and those "other" feeds for the few non-televised games...you can easily stream thru your TV so you aren't hunched over a tiny screen.

If you have a newer laptop and a newer TV (made in past 5-7 years) you should have HDMI inputs on both. You can go out and buy an HDMI cable for about $20, run it between both and will be able to stream the video/audio directly to your TV without any quality loss.

If anyone has an xbox 360, ps3, or certain DVD players ESPN3 is an App you can download and watch the game on TV

I'm looking forward to this aspect as well. I did think it was obvious in the Maine game that he was working with some different lineups to see how guys do together. I think we see a heck of a lot more of Biruta and Munford tonight.

It's on ESPN3/WatchESPN, which is available online via Cox. Not sure about Verizon, but I'm pretty sure they're included as well.

Yep, Verizon FiOS has ESPN3/WatchESPN enabled. Short of you being at work and trying to watch via your company's internet, you should be able to see this game streamed live.

Very possible. Tell us what kind and maybe we can research it for you. Probably something you just have to download, then activate with a code the TV will give you that you post into a web page to "authorize" the ESPN app. Very simple.

Back to the game itself.
This is a really good early season road test for us.
If we win this game, it legitimizes a lot of our hopes that we've
had, and means progress doesn't have to wait until January or so.
I'm very anxious to see how we do tonight.
On the surface, it appears to be a winnable game.
I hope we come out strong and take their crowd out of the game.

Rod, it is pretty important we win tonight. It will give us hope we can head out to Arizona and compete against Metro State and even Arizona.

Metro State, I'm sure we have the edge inside, but their guards will be tough. Lot of D1 level talent on that team.

Arizona might be the one game all year, where we're at a disadvantage inside. That's definitely a big boy team.

Agree totally with Rambone and Rod. This will give us a good indication early on where this team might go. Winning on the road, not close moral victories, will go along way ie. Detroit, LSU and Arizona. Maybe a win will convince our state newspaper to start taking this team seriously. Go Rhody!

I'm a PS3 owner and I was looking for an app today in the store for ESPN3 and I couldn't find it. I think ESPN3 is an XBOX exclusive, though if I'm wrong I'd appreciate any help to point me in the right direction.

Gonzo, didn't see any mention of a specific WatchESPN app on your Sony TV, but if it has a built in web browser, just go to watchespn.com and see what happens.

For some reason, I like the underlined n in Munford in the pronunciation guide.

I hate to admit that I can't completely get Onyekaba's name, I think because I've heard it mispronounced too many times.

ramfan85 did you check to see if you can get espn3 through your internet provider? its available from a bunch of them, if you can't the game is listed on tonight's games on first row, those aren't always the best streams and sometimes they don't go live at all, they are always free though...

Same here TP! I got home from work and the first thing I did was check to make sure ESPN3 worked, then plugged my laptop into my living room tv with the HDMI. It's going to be plugged in from now until gametime. So pumped.
