To put on my Keaney Blue glasses for a moment to be the optimist, maybe the players that stayed bought into a plan to have us grow and be a continual power long term and wanted to be part of that (like why EC Matthews came here). Of course that's mostly wishful thinking.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑6 months agoBillyboy78 wrote: ↑6 months agoIs that our goal? Decent?PeterRamTime wrote: ↑6 months ago I've been thinking lately
If we had gotten our shit together this year and had more success, we probably don't return the core players we return. They were just inconsistent enough we can add solid pieces to compliment them and have a decent team next year.
UMass had a decent year and they lost some of their best players, where we actually kept ours lol.
Feels like if our players were more consistent more would have been enticed to portal, so it almost feels like a blessing in disguise, because we were able to keep all our best players. Makes building a roster easier for next year. UMass has lost I think their 3 best players.
We just need to add a PG, wing, another big and two depths pieces to a solid core group.

Doesn't seem like a ton of portal guys have committed yet..like across the country. Slow moving portal season.

Well, I wasn't aware of that. A li ttle surprising he made all-A10 1st team being a newcomer to the league but I guess his stats couldn't be overlooked. Yes I'd be very interested in Ma native. This will be his 4th school is 5 season

Potential benefits to waiting. Still more players to hit the portal and some of the better players still to come.
Available playing time is a good selling point. Agree to judge Archie and his Staff once complete - plenty of time to go. Patience is a virtue.

Well for one, any player(freshman) who we recruit and is stellar is leaving. Unless we pay them big time. The second is, any player worth anything in the portal is looking for a payday. Doesn't seem we are getting them either. So the question is not who we are trying to keep up with, but who can we afford to pay to play? Another year like the last six, and the Ryan Center will be empty. We are being left behind.section(105) wrote: ↑6 months agoGotta ask, who is it that we are trying to keep up with?theblueram wrote: ↑6 months ago Sorry to say, but a URI fan funded collective is not going to keep up.

Couple things to note here. We were never keeping up with schools like Indiana before NIL either. And that article left out the follow up tweet.theblueram wrote: ↑6 months ago Sorry to say, but a URI fan funded collective is not going to keep up.

Excellent news signing Lawrence. We need a stronger starting 5 to really move upwards to Top Tier A10. He gives us a solid potential starter - a good starter.

If I'm Archie, I'm spending my time "recruiting" big donors like Soloviev, Ryan and Fascitelli, etc. to bankroll a roster that can compete. Big donors were willing to pony up to get a guy like Archie, but times have changed and a big name coach and shiny new facilities doesn't translate to recruiting success the way it used to.

This is amazing news adding Jamarques to the fold. I would assume this will be our starting PG who can play some 2 if hammond comes in and house is taken out.
Jamarques can really make plays for others and shoot the 3 really well.
Let's add a big and we should be sitting pretty with a few rotation spots left to fill after a big.
The combo of house and jamarques at the starting guard spots is clutch.

Jeeze some of you need a little patience. This is a phenomenal get by the staff.
The so called short handed staff nailed a good one from the portal without Kenny Johnson so it's safe to say it's not that big of a deal.

This is a good get.
A semi starter on a P5 tourney team. That is getting closer to punching above our weight in talent recruitment.

Big fan of this pickup. While I'm hopeful to have Hammond as our primary 1, it will bee good to have a PG with true D1 experience in a power conference. Our roster has plenty of off ball guards to compliment. Looking at stats and a little video, his game is similar to freshman year Jeff Dowtin. He has got a nice touch around the freethrow line.

No one better celebrate this Lawrence transfer. Just because he’s a borderline B1G starter who played well against good B1G competition and represents a lot of things we missed on the court last year doesn’t mean we can be happy.
The staff didn’t let this message board know what they were doing, so it doesn’t count.
No celebrating! None!

Seems like a shooting and defensive upgrade but his A/TO numbers have me thinking he'll play more off the ball.

Will be interesting to see if this starts a domino effect of kids on the team (Luis) deciding to leave.

Re: Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel and Portal - 2024-25
Again, props to the staff on getting Lawrence.
I really didn't think we get a PG transfer this good in the portal.
I liked him immediately once I saw him play as a freshman.
He had some huge games against top teams.\
This praise from Tom Izzo.
“The Lawrence kid is going to be a hell of a player,” Izzo said. “We couldn’t guard him.”
Now that he committed, I thought I would copy this from my earlier post on him.

22-23- "He closed the year playing his best basketball with four straight double-figure games and averaging 13.3 points on 53 percent shooting, including 46 percent from 3-point range, along with 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Against MSU, he hit 7-of-10 shots from the field, while he sank a career-high five 3-pointers and added a season-best four assists in the win at Iowa."

Where they then will find something else to complain about. But no post celebrating the new recruit landed. Lmao
