Thanks for posting this, Sevegny.

I will have to look him up.

Although I may not see as much value in recruiting prep players under the current portal/no sit out era as before the portal/no sit out era, I still enjoy evaluating their games and how they could fit with Rhody.

Recruiting a kid for 3 years will be very expensive. I no longer see the point.

Imho, I think we have to pay closer attention to player acquisition expense today than we have historically. Not that we didn’t in the past but with unlimited player movement plus NIL, I think it needs more focused attention.

Of course that (player movement, NIL ) could change sooner or later.

Yeah I agree. I like at least to see what schools they are targeting for relationships. And yeah breaking down tape as a bball junkie is always fun.

Edit: Building those relationships can always help the 2nd time around when they transfer after leaving the first school they played for. Happens all the time. But yeah as of now portal is definitely the trend in current landscape

I can't imagine the difference in recruiting a high school player for 3 years, traveling to his high school games, traveling to his AAU summer tournaments, traveling to his home to meet his parents, bringing him in for visits, etc., as compared to recruiting someone in the portal for a couple of weeks and only having to pay for the visit. And if that high school player commits and is really good, he is gone. Sure, keep recruiting high school kids, but don't waste a lot of money doing it. Recruit locally (New England, New York) where the coach can drive to games and come back the same day.

Adapt and overcome. 👍🏼

I agree, 78. Others may see it differently - as to scope of driving territory, for instance - or may see it completely opposite and make a good case but, your appraoch makes sense to me under the current system.

I actually like Archie's strategy: sign prep players early and then move on to the portal.

Did a quick search but couldn’t find much on him.

6-8” (more recent has him at 6-9”) wing. Described as a slasher, difficult matchup. That said, being a ‘27, there is a long way to go as far as skill and body development goes. A compelling prep recruiting target for us to keep track of the next few years.

Good question, 78. Although he is close by in NY.

That said, we don’t appear - on quick glance - to be involved with many recruits going by this side of KB: 2-3 in 25’s; any 26’s (?); one ‘27. This part of the board has no-where near the prep recruiting buzz it used to have.

Maybe the prep recruiting slow down is the new strategy (i.e. more focus on transfers) Archie and staff are pursuing while not totally neglecting the prep recruits ?

That is the strategy I would be pursuing now if I was a HC.

I do miss the prep activity, however, and discussing their strengths, weaknesses and potential fit at Rhody.

Probably because he can get all the Drakes Yankee Doodles and Devil Dogs he can eat. That’s a program resource only the University of Hostess can compete with.

I don’t think we were ever mentioned with Manyawu. I think someone went through Cunningham’s twitter following and saw Manyawu that doesn’t mean we were involved with him. The assistant coach that recruited him to Wyoming was hired by Ben McCollum at Drake. They were the heavy favorite from the start.

Maybe Joe can verify?

A big man target here freshman Cam Manyawu 6’9 forward from Wyoming has been in contact with the staff. Averaged 7 ppg and 6 rpg last year.
