Fordham signs 6’9 Matt zona from Norte Dame. Played about 10 min a game. Unimpressive stats. Probably nothing more than a big body.

Yes, hopefully we at least start seeing visits happen.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑5 months agoOr even a visit.
Other than Khaliff battle, I don't think we went after anyone as good as Diggy last year. Might be an indicator that we are going after and able to land better quality transfers.
Last years group was better than the first years group, so we should remain on the same trajectory.

Did big guy even start at SJ's? IDTS. They probably overpaid for a large presence in the middle rather than a program-turner they hope they got. They will probably tell the 6'9 Preppie that committed to stay in school. Let the other 7' be a practice player and small mins reserve.
As it stands now they probably don't make the top half of the BE unless they bring in 2-3 deep scorers. That and their 2 inj. people have to come back healthy.

If we had gotten him we would be thrilled. You guys always say bigs take time to develop. Looks like his numbers were pretty good for a freshman big.
Hey at least we're doing a good job of observing the "quiet period"

Well, ya, our team needs major upgrades. I'd be thrilled to land most players based on how bad we are. We aren't a Big East team that's building a roster to land a bid next year. We are one of the worst teams in the country. So, ya, I would take any decent freshman A10 player like this kid because we suck. But we have already a freshman big who put up similar numbers in Fuchs. Providence was a fringe NCAA tournament team that will likely be in the mix to land a bid again. He's a solid get, but it's nothing special for them.ram1980 wrote: ↑5 months agoIf we had gotten him we would be thrilled. You guys always say bigs take time to develop. UConn, too, way back when.
The BE/NBE rocket ship took them (PC, UConn) to the moon while we continue to circle the earth in orbit. But then, the P2 football schools - with their bb programs in tow - are on their way to Mars.
We need a booster (rocket) to help us escape orbit.

Most of the BE is reloading. I think Providence will absolutely compete for top half. That's IF Hopkins returns early and healthy and is productive. And IF we fill out the rest of the roster as expected/hoped:
From the portal PC now has
*an established PG with deep tourney experience (Bensley Joseph)
* a 2nd year 7 footer big with a lot of upside
PC is not close to done here, as I said we expect to go after a scorer and a perimeter shooter which should finish up our portal moves. Lastly we expect top 20ish 4*/5* center Oswin to reclass from '25 to '24 and join us, once AAU wraps. And we have 7'2 Anton Bonke, a project/gamble with massive upside as well. Glad we won't be undersized again like we were this year.

I dont think he'll ever be first team all big east or anything, but he has the size and skill to be a really good player for them.
What I would do for us to get a 7'0 285 pound freshman that just averaged 8.2 points per game in an injury riddled first season...

He would be a great upgrade replacement at wing for Zek and Weston.
Archie should be very familiar with him; Gillis is from Indiana.

We aren't orbiting anything, we've burned up in the atmosphere.
Stealth recruiting my ass, not only nothing is happening we're still wondering if KJ is leaving along with Hammond.
Again wake me if we pick up a couple promising transfers.
Like Judge Smails said in the movie Caddyshack, "well we're waiting!"

We can start with someone who won't disappear inexplicably for 80% of the season

Re: Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel and Portal - 2024-25
There are really not a lot of established bigs in the portal and the few that are will probably go-to some blue blood. Therefore you have to take a chance on someone and this kid had good numbers against three of the good teams they played Kentucky, Seton Hall and Duquesne. Fuchs did seem to put up some good numbers. I did not see a lot of him but seems like a nice piece. Archie did a good job making sure he didn't hit portal.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑5 months agoWell, ya, our team needs major upgrades. You have to love the new college basketball. Hire a coach and he takes everyone with him for a year or maybe two of eligibility. I guess none of the players are concerned about their education or any other factors despite obviously getting the cash.Jersey77 wrote: ↑5 months agoDefinitely a good move by Schertz and SLU in hiring him.bigappleram wrote: ↑5 months agoSchertz just got a 1.5mm raise and will take his whole team with him and likely compete at the top of the league for a bid just like he would have done in the Valley. It was a no brainer move. Who would turn that raise down? No one.RamStock wrote: ↑5 months ago
Both Avila and his coach had everyone returning and could have made it a special season while making the tourney. He then could have parlayed his success into a much better job than St. Louis. Both will probably end up with a very mediocre season at best next year instead of making the tourney
All the starters and top scorers for Indiana State are in the portal and looks like Avila probably already made up his mind to join SLU.
Not sure it is an exaggeration but heard on another site that it will take upwards of $1.5M NIL to sign them all.
Top ISU players in the portal:
(C) Robbie Avila averaged 17.4 pts (39% 3PT), 6.6 rebs/ 4 assists
(CG) Ryan Conwell averaged 16.6 pts (41 % 3PT)/ 5.8 rebs
(PG) Isaiah Swope averaged 16 pts (36% 3PT)
(F/PF) Javon Kent averaged 13.5 pts (37% 3PT)/ 8 rebs
(CG) Julian Larry averaged 11 pts (46% 3 PT)
(Wing) Xavier Bledson averaged 6.7 pts (86% FT)

He had 9 and 9 against Kentucky. Kentucky's problem was Erik Reynolds, who dropped 28. It was a great game. Also, we have a freshman big man who averaged 8 and 6. I know some of you think Fuchs sucks, but if you're going to drool over this kid, I'm going to bring up Fuchs numbers. They had a very similar freshman year. Both have plenty of upside.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑5 months agoYeah I would be thrilled with him.ram1980 wrote: ↑5 months agoIf we had gotten him we would be thrilled. I believe Christ has immense potential, although his struggles last year weren't solely due to turf toe. He tends to fatigue quickly and lacks explosiveness, particularly around the rim. His hands aren't the best, and he sometimes takes ill-advised shots. I noticed moments where he seemed frustrated and disengaged during games, which was reminiscent of our team's struggles. A friend of mine who's a St. Joe's fan mentioned that while they're disappointed to lose him, they recognize his upside but also noted occasional lapses in effort. Overall, he believes he has the potential to become a solid starter for PC, with the possibility of greatness if everything clicked.
In the games I watched Christ was an excellent passer for his size and possesses a solid shooting range. He's skilled in the post and shows promise with his moves. I don't anticipate him being a standout player next year, but with improved conditioning and continued development, he could become a reliable starter in the Big East. The best performance I witnessed from him was during the NIT, where he truly shined. He's a good get for PC.

Yeah, no one thinks Fuchs sucks. What are you talking about?
I think Christ was just out of shape. Maybe effort? I think he's just carrying too much unhealthy weight. Just like I never really felt like it was a lack of effort for Fuchs like some, even you, said. He's built like a tank and would tire out. I think that he got in better shape as the year went on. He was a force against Kentucky because of his size primarily. He wasn't putting up big numbers, but the attention he drew and pressure he put on them inside allowed everything else to flow for St Joe's.

Maybe you don't think he sucks, but you were negative about Fuchs and wanted more Foumena for most of the year. I don't think you were the most negative person here about Fuchs, but you were one of them. And yes, I was upset at Fuchs's effort at the Mohegan Sun game. I never saw him do that again, though.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑5 months agoWhat drooling? It was this comment when I say drooling. "What I would do for us to get a 7'0 285 pound freshman that just averaged 8.2 points per game in an injury-riddled first season". That seems like you're saying you would do anything to get a player of his caliber. I just think it's odd that you would say a comment like that when we did have a freshman big man who averaged 8 and 6 this year. To me, it seemed like you were throwing another jab at Fuchs so that's why I'm defending him.
I'm not saying Fuchs is a superstar, but I think he was one of the rare bright spots this year. Hopefully, Fuchs can outplay Christ and finally beat PC. Or, at the very least, can we make it a freaking game and not get our asses kicked.

I really don't get why some people think it's a secret. Every single one of these portal players are being coveted by several schools. It's literally not a secret! It's normal to know who your team is recruiting...

The staff is recruiting. The dead period is always quieter. It's good that we aren't 100% sure about KJ. He was 100% gone two weeks ago. That initial deal didn't go through for whatever reason, and now we may be able to keep him. Either way, say what you want about Archie, but if you don't think he's working his ass to get the best possible recruits, you're wrong. Can he land some legit recruits is the question. But it's not from a lack of trying.rambone 78 wrote: ↑5 months ago We aren't orbiting anything, we've burned up in the atmosphere.
Stealth recruiting my ass, not only nothing is happening we're still wondering if KJ is leaving along with Hammond.
Again wake me if we pick up a couple promising transfers.
Like Judge Smails said in the movie Caddyshack, "well we're waiting!"
Coit is at the top of our list and would be the best transfer Archie had landed. In our four-game winning streak, when we looked like one of the better teams in the A10, our starting point guard (Luis) scored 15 a game. When our point guard scored, things opened up for the rest of our guys. Coit and House would be a very good scoring backcourt. You add Hammond, Luis, Cam, and I really like that core of guards. If we can land a good two-way wing, we should go into next season with some excitement. Let's see what type of roster Archie builds. I still believe he will turn this around.

So we've got one clown with at least three screen names doing the same dumb gimmick with all 3?
Take down the Robert Carothers banner and fix the concession stand lines

There's no question that the staff will get players to fill out the roster.
The question is just how talented will those players be?
Everything depends on it.
How confident are we that it will be enough to turn things around?
Until I see it I can't expect anything. That's just the way it is.

Yes Bone, but at this point we are in a similar situation to almost all the teams in the conference.rambone 78 wrote: ↑5 months ago There's no question that the staff will get players to fill out the roster.

The A10 is losing so much to the portal and key players out of eligibility or in Holmes's case probably to the NBA.
Currently VCU seems to be returning the most talent unless of course if Holmes miraculously decides to return to Dayton.

Reminds me of the rebuild vs. reload discussion we beat into the ground here a few years ago.

In 1997 they had God
In 2024 they have Christ
Does anyone know if Jesus Shuttlesworth has any eligibility left?

Spooky, I am going to guess that they sign the anti-Christ next given the nature of the beast.
