Both of the AAC teams, FAU and UAB, go out in the first round. The trajectory of this league looks to be headed down after all its big name departures. Lost Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF a year ago will soon lose SMU (ACC bound). Has already or will soon add Charlotte, FAU, N Texas, Rice, UAB, and UTSA for basketball. It had been ahead of the A-10 in most metrics and perception prior to this year. The A-10 however looks to have jumped ahead of it again this past season.

Since the Big East split in 2012 the first few years the A10 was a lot better than the AAC - then it flipped for a bit and now it's going back the other way. It started to flig when Wichita St went there. Around that time I was arguing on Twitter with an AAC fan who was saying they were much better than the A10 - I asked him to back it up with numbers...this was maybe around 5 or 6 years ago. I argued at the time that the conferences since the AAC formed had roughly the same number of bids and the A10 (at the time) had more wins. He responded that he thought I was crazy until he looked it up and conceded my point. That was before Houston became a powerhouse and UConn was still in the league and struggling.

I am not watching that game, Bone. I am surprised to hear he didn’t pull starters sooner - like with about 6 min left - considering the size of the blowout.

It seems that only injuries can derail their run so, why risk the starters when up 30 the last several minutes of the game ?

Corny played for Dom Perno. He was good and was the main reason URI lost the ECAC New England championship in 1979. I was there at the PCC. URI and Sly missed the NCAA and had to settle for an NIT game at Maryland where they lost.

Thompson was a great college player, but he wasn't the reason the Leg-humpers won. Perno saw how completely left-handed Sly was and had smaller, quicker players overplay Sly's left hand and took Sly completely out of the game.

And don't get me started on the Maryland game.

I was at that game at the PCC on St Patrick's Day in 1989. Princeton led almost the entire game before Georgetown went ahead with under a minute left. Had looked like a #16 seed was about to beat a top seed for the first time in the history of the tournament (would not happen until UMBC-UVA in 2018). The Hoyas were coached by John Thompson and were led by Mourning and Mutumbo.

The second game that night was Notre Dame (Digger with Laphonso Ellis) beating Vanderbilt on St Patty's Day with plenty of people wearing the green.
