UNH...University of New Hockey is battling after it tonight in the Hockey East playoffs.
On the women's side, ...interesting, should be a nice bump for that whole little area:
The 11-team field for the 2024 NCAA women's hockey tournament is set, with the Frozen Four to be held March 22 and 24 at the Whittemore Center in Durham, New Hampshire.

Re: NCAA Hockey
The Civic Center will be hosting the first and second round of the men's tournament. Bracketology has Boston College as the number 1 seed in the tournament taking on Bemidji State and Quinnipiac taking on Wisconsin. Springfield gets Boston University vs RIT and Maine vs Michigan

Re: NCAA Hockey
Only one of the four venues for the 2024 NCAA Men's Hockey Tournament sold out any sessions. The venue at Maryland Heights-MO, which only seated 3,148 (some 650 above its normal capacity), sold out all its games.
The best attended games at the other three venues were 5,765 at Springfield (cap 6,800), 6,113 at Sioux Falls (cap 10,678), and 6,988 at Providence (cap 11,273).
The NCAA Men's Hockey Tournament, unlike its counterpart for basketball, struggles to attract fans at most of its regional sites. It even has difficulty getting venues to submit host bids. There was some controversy this year with the selection of the small capacity Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, MO. This facility is outside St Louis and is part of a complex that includes the NHL St. Louis Blues training center. The NCAA responded by saying that there were no other western venues that made bid proposals to host the niche college sport's premier event.

Re: NCAA Hockey
Unlike basketball, hockey doesn't let schools host games at their own venue, games can only be held at neutral venues. That's why it was so hard to find a western hostRF1 wrote: ↑1 month ago Only one of the four venues for the 2024 NCAA Men's Hockey Tournament sold out any sessions. Re: NCAA Hockey
While hosting the NCAA Hockey regionals has a positive economic impact for cities, it is not as large as one might suspect. In New England for the 2024 tournament, it is estimated that Providence saw a $1.9M impact and Springfield-MA a $1.1M impact. According to the NCAA, the total combined two-day attendance was 10,172 at the MassMutual Center and 12,823 for the Amica Mutual Pavilion. Hotel revenues were below expectations in Providence. Two fairly close by schools (Boston College and Quinnipiac) making the Providence regional final likely contributed to this as their fans probably just drove in on the two game days and not stayed overnight.
