$12.1 million Slade Track & Field Replacement
One of the first two projects that URI will complete as part of our athletics facility renewal is the $12.1 million replacement of Slade Track and Field, a facility that has been condemned for 25 or so years. Assuming an 80/20 split, the state will fund $9.68 million and the University will fund $2.42 million. The first 35 seconds of the video show the current conditions today:
According to the following article it could take about two years to repair:

I was pretty surprised the spread of how tracks are situated on different campuses in the A10 and locally. I figured every other school had a track, but that doesn't seem to be the case looking at the facility pages for other athletic departments.
Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, Loyola Chicago, and St. Bonaventure don't appear to have outdoor tracks.
Davidson, Dayton, George Mason, La Salle, Richmond, St. Joe's, VCU, and Brown all have tracks that surround their main sporting field, either football or soccer.
Only UMass, St. Louis, Bryant, and Providence seem to have the type of track and field complex we'd be looking to build.
UMass - UMass Track & Field Complex
Opened in 2006 with a cost of $3.1 million (4.7 million today with inflation)

St. Louis - Medical Center Recreational Complex
Opened in 2011
https://slubillikens.com/facilities/med ... k-field-/3
Bryant - Bryant Track & Turf Complex
Opened in 2005 with seating for 500

Providence - Ray Treacy Track at Hendricken Field
Opened in 2013 with seating for more than 300

I was only able to find cost information for the UMass complex, and based on that we are spending a ton more than they did. Are we adding a field for club and intramural sports like Bryant and PC did? Even that doesn't seem like it would bring us up to $12.1 million. I know they want concessions and restrooms down in that area, I wonder if as part of this construction we will be building a field house down the third base line of the softball complex, across the access road from the track, over to the southwest corner of the soccer complex that could house locker rooms, concessions, and restrooms

PC's is just a training facility?
It does not appear to be legit? Basically a cow pasture?
Just look at their roster?
I could be missing something?

Along with baseball & football,PC does not even have a track and field program?
Unless the roster needs to be updated?

They do have men's and women's track. Both the men's and women's team came to an indoor meet we hosted in January and our women's team went to the Friar Invitational that PC hosted in April at the track I posted above

Rhowdy-Thank you !! I am not blaming you for PC's web site E & O.
Never seen a track & field roster & complex like it unless a newbie HS program.
Surprised given since that's' a comparative goal Thorr is mentioning the throws events.

Must have been a helluva meet.It certainly explains why they only need 300 seats.

I believe the PC track is on the site of the former Hendricken Field where its now gone baseball program (discontinued in 1999) played it's games.

PC had at least one athlete at the national meet…Brian Forster wrote: ↑10 months ago Along with baseball & football,PC does not even have a track and field program?

The women’s 1500 had a kid from Mass who is at UVa and a runner from PC. The Mass kid was third.

No disrepect to PC's runners,but that's not a track & field program.
The # of events they do not have performers or facilities for are too numerous to mention.

Congrats on getting the state to throw their support behind upgrading your facilities! It's nice to see numerous athletic programs in New England getting some much needed new and renovated facilities. Maine will be embarking on the heart of their $208 million athletic facility master plan over the next few years with new track, soccer and basketball facilities as well as renovations to Alfond Arena and Alfond Stadium.
