Several exciting finishes in tonight's A-10 games.

After leading a good part of game Loyola lost at VCU, 74-67. VCU took the lead from LUC with 8 minutes left in game, though Loyola closed to within 4 with a minute left, but got no closer.

After a 0-5 start, Duquesne got its first A-10 win by beating the Bonnies, 54-50. Duquesne led most of the way and built a 16 point margin with 5 minutes left in game, but under a SBU full court pressure and some errant Duquesne FT shooting, SBU got back in game only to falter in last minute.

UMass with Matt Cross in the line-up lost another heartbreaker, this time to St. Joe's who put in a third chance lay-up with 1.4 seconds left to win, 78-77. The Hawks rallied from a 13 point deficit to get the win. UMass has now lost 5 of 7 games by a combined 12 points.

Nice to be able to switch channels and see parts of all 4 A10 games.

The press did bother Duquesne a lot late in the game and you wonder why they didn’t press and play defense with greater urgency until the last few minutes.
Looking at Duquesne’s line up they start 2 forwards and 3 guards but they brought in 5 players off the bench classified as forwards and no guards off the bench. If their PG Rozier got in foul trouble they would really be in trouble it would seem.

I really like the GW / Richmond matchup.
Last time GW was in Richmond Va, they beat VCU.

I think both these teams are solid, have star power, and are capable of finishing in the top 4.

Bonnie’s write up on tonight’s game.....OUCH on Rhody comment

  • St. Bonaventure plays in its first ESPN Friday Night Showcase game this season when Saint Joseph's visits the Reilly Center. Since the 2020-21 season, the Bonnies are 5-2 overall and 3-0 at The RC in Friday Night Showcase games, though this is their first time playing in the conference's highlighted TV timeslot since a March 2022 win over Richmond at home.
  • The last time the Bonnies played on home court, they handed Rhode Island its first A-10 loss of the year as the Bonnies tallied their most points in regulation vs. an A-10 opponent in over four decades when they dominated the Rams, 99-64 Jan. 17. The last time St. Bonaventure topped that offensive output in regulation vs. an A-10 foe: Jan. 5, 1981 in a 104-80 win vs. UMass.
  • The Bonnies have produced a winning Atlantic 10 record in eight of the past nine years, averaging over 11 A-10 wins per year since 2014-15.

Bonnie’s had 3 guys off the bench play more than 3 starters.
Could be some starting positions changing out?
Charles Prude only played 12 minutes and zero points. He did not look to happy when cameras panned the bench.

Yep. Pride could be a casualty of that depth. 12 minutes total playing time as a starter has to be a wake up call from his Head Coach. Competition is a great thing.

Omigosh...if only the Hoyas could pull this off. If so, forever, if I need a pick me up, I'll be able to think back, in a Chris Farley kinda way, "...'member that time when PC fans acted like total nitwits to their ex-coach and he took his cellar dweller team and beat them anyway? Ya, I remember that...that was cool" and have a nice chuckle.

ETA: Nice bid, no cigar. Oh well...if nothing else, there was no doubt that Cooley's dudes played hard. Gave it a good go.

Channeling Bob Lobel: How come we can’t get players like that?

Why?

He was shoved out, doubt he truly wanted to leave.

Good for him turning into an All Conference player.

We have a massive thread about former player updates.

Granted that isn’t this thread, but people bring up old players all the time.

I could give 2 shits about any interest in other games.

The team I follow and care about has no hope for this season and who the fuck knows about next season.

The bringing up of Bassy, who is allowed to attempt 20 shots a game at Albany, helping our team win is really annoying. I would get it if ppl brought up Leggett, but no it's Bassy that will save us taking Ways back up minutes

It’s not really about Thomas being a savior, he’s just night and day better than Always.

It’s not close.

People seem to have a vendetta against Thomas for one reason or another.

Bassy evidently has a coaching staff that has the ability to develop players.

Something we haven't seen since Dan left.

Sometimes all a kid needs is an opportunity not sure if he would have got it here @ URI but hard to believe he wouldn’t be getting @ least 20 minutes per night here if he stayed

I’m not a huge Bassy fan but the kid worked hard and cared. He played 40 minutes today. Do we have a kid that could even do that without fouling out getting gassed or getting benched for not bothering to play defense? I don’t think so

Down goes Dayton, I think. At this point I would like to see them continue their success to keep the A10 in the top 20, but alas...

Signature win for Richmond and currently the 2nd longest win streak in the nation.
Happy for Mooney who underwent major heart surgery last February, missing the remainder of the season.

If they play well the rest of the season, they may also quality for an at-large, who knows.

Richmond lost 4/5 starters from last season, including a potential pro in Tyler Burton.

Finished 15-18.

Currently undefeated in conference play and creeping onto the bubble.

Yet ANOTHER example that sometimes all it takes is a year to turn a team into a legitimate conference contender.

Returning Quinn, Bigelow, and Bailey was huge all having a major impact season.
Plus bench depth with Roche, Walz, and Noyes.

Granted adding guard transfers King and Hunt sealed it for them.
They are well coached and play excellent defense.

Just a thought...since playing defense sucks a--, if a team plays good defense, doesn't that automatically mean (pretty much) that they are well-coached? I mean, when guys go off offensively, no one ever says it's the coach's scheme, do they?

Well, they play extremely smart and have good ball security.
Quinn their 7-foot center leads the team in assists by a lot.

On the defensive side, they limit their opponents to under 40% FG.
