I watched the last couple of mins of the game after going at half time.

One of the things I saw was when Skogman got the ball on the perimeter, two of our Bigs flew through the air at him while he was trying to get the shot off and he had to pull it down. So, an adjustment was made by Archie at the half.

I’m also old enough to remember when 90% of people here hated Fuchs.

Can only remember Me, Stevey, and Jersey wondering why people hated him so much.

BRUTAL at Mohegan yes, but very good rest of season.

Still cannot agree with one of best freshman in America, but damn he’s a force.
I feel like I’ve posted multiple atonements.

He’s a 5. He looked lost at the 4. He’s been unequivocally great since he came back from injury and DG took over the 4 duties.

He’s also evolving and developing. And he’s putting significantly more effort in.

He may not be a top freshman in America but he’s definitely a top freshman big in this conference. He’s so good down low.
You're probably going to have to say this every time he has a good game. Just get it set up on Ctrl + C /Ctrl + V:
He’s a 5. He looked lost at the 4.

I don't think he was necessarily 'lost' at the 4, but dang, he has been sooo much better at the 5...

The last few games (3?), we won.

I just love celebrating a win with an unnecessary bitch slap to the head about how wrong I was about a player. Thanks for that. I realize at this point, that you are only here for that sole purpose, so... keep up the good work, I guess?

When you’re playing the best you’ve played all night down the stretch, and you keep your best player on the bench because the guys on the floor are getting it done.

That’s great fucking coaching and such a good sign for this team and our depth.
Totally agree, I thought Arch coached a great game tonight , possibly a game we may have lost under Cox

I liked how we slowed the game down with that 6 point lead and we never were really threatened

2-0 in the conf feels good baby !
1000% agree.

The whole taking punches and giving it right back is indicative of a coach who has a feel for the game.

There’s a lot of “should” with what to do with players in foul trouble.

Archie put Green in early to see if he could trust him not to foul in the first. He fouled.

After learning that Archie held him out in the 2nd - longer than most may have liked, but he had a feel for the game that the guys on the floor could be trusted to keep them at bay.

We’re still young and making dumb mistakes - but we’re making dumb mistakes and winning tough conference games on the road.

And btw - it’s someone different every night stepping up. Sign of a good team and a good coach who knows he can turn to someone different each night.

I LOVE THIS.
Agree with this. Holding him out in 2nd half was the right move.

He also pulled him at 12 min mark when u could tell David was getting frustrated and he was going to do something dumb. Archie saved him from himself. I’ve craved that feel from the head chair since the days of Dan.

It’s almost like the guy who won a lot of games in this league didn’t forget how to win games in this league.

Yeah absurd dumb plays.

He will do something so good and then immediately so dumb.

He had that stupid turnover, followed by an insanely good block, followed by trying to take it 80 feet through the hoop in traffic and turning it over.

It was awesome and tragic simultaneously.
He has a little of the Mitchell twins in him. On that coast to coast, I’m screaming pass the ball… He had both wings open.

I personally wanted Green back at the end. We had three straight ugly possessions, but the lineup was locking Davidson up, so I get why he kept him out. It just seemed like whenever Green was in there, they couldn't defend him. He was getting to the line whenever he wanted. Either way, for us to win this game with Green not making much of an impact is huge. We aren't even peaking yet. What happens if Zek gets his mojo back? This team has options.. This team has dogs. Like 15, I defended Fuchs a lot after Mohegun. I think it's time that some of us give Brown credit. He was huge on the defensive end and had the play of the game, in my opinion. I love Fou's upside, but he's going to need some time to learn from his mistakes. A team like Davidson thrives against low IQ players like Fou, so Brown was the better option tonight. Archie had some absolutely filthy plays under the last five minutes. Man, it's really awesome having a coach that can make a difference again. I thought he coached a much better second half.

We need to be LOUD on Saturday. Umass embarrassed us at home last year! Let's go!!!!

First post in some time. I've been reading the board and have watched almost every game. I felt it was time to participate again. I thought what Archie did offensively was brilliant. He made Davidson play defense and chase us around. We rarely took a bad shot with the exception of Cam and he was pulled. They were dog tired and struggled getting to spots in the second half and down the stretch. Hitting some three's in the first half enabled us to get rim drives in the second half. We had very few live ball turnovers and LOUIE was the floor general we have missed since Dowtin.
Defensively he moved Zek to Huffman around the 8 minute mark and really made things disruptive. He had a hard time getting paint touches and really struggled on timing with entries and flair action deliveries. Happy for Brown. He works extremely hard and cares. Archie is pushing the right buttons.
Green needs to stay out of foul trouble against UMASS. His match-up with Cross is huge. Really looking forward to seeing this group continue to grow.
Be Well and Happy New Year to all.

We have depth. We have multiple guys that can step up. Green, in limited action, got to the line and created foul problems for Davidson’s top bigs. We likely still lose that game without him.

Random thought: David Fuchs could be one of the all time leading rebounders if he stays for four years. Mature beyond his years.

Trust in Arch!

Also key, not sure of the stats, but in both wins our 2nd half free throw shooting has been very good. This team is at their best attacking the paint and forcing fouls. Can’t avoid them (sorry Ramster). Gotta make them and shoot 25-30 a night to win.

After his three point attempt/pass (???) and then the coast to coast turnover, at the next TO a fan screamed, clear as day, “11 THAT WAS THE WORST TWO PLAYS EVER BACK TO BACK!”

Was hilarious to hear, but 100% true.

Congratulations to the Rhody Nation fams that were at the game. Looks as if Rhody Nation is alive and well in Carolina.

Had a chat with one after the game and, wondering if there was an unpublisized Alumni group prior to,the game? If not, can’t we do it at all away games? Betting there are some loyal Rhody fans at most of our away games.

Some comments from the Davidson Fan Forum URI Game thread........

Some younger fans may not get the Ponderosa reference................

Of course URI is shooting lights out.

Fuchs went right over Reed for the first offensive rebound of the 2d half as if he was engaged in armed combat with a waif.

Grant fouled Kortwright with his face. Stitches?

Fun, chippy game. I actually don't think we're playing poorly -- and I think URI is better than they've shown this season.

32 personal fouls total...make that 33. Seems excessive. An ugly game, so let's win ugly.

Kortright is treating Belk like his own personal Ponderosa.
HAHAHA. +1

They were stronger and quicker. That simple.

4th straight game with a new starting line up as Green started for Montgomery

The 3 game win streak (following the 5 game losing streak) has included 2 Freshmen with Fuchs (returned after 3 games out with concussion) and Estevez who got selected for his 1st 3 starts of his college career.

Fuchs has responded with 3 consecutive double-doubles and only 2 Turnovers total in the 3 games.

Estevez also has minimum Turnovers and has provided solid 3P and FT shooting, rebounding, defense and good passing.

As the 2 freshmen continue to start they should continue to improve for the 2nd week of March. Considerable upside.

Miller not hesitant at all to change starting positions. He’s doing a masterful job.

Agree. Davidson games often tend to be physical.
On One play Fuchs grabbed the offensive rebound off a missed FT by URI. Fuchs reached over the head and shoulders of the Davidson guy closest to the basket and just muscled the ball to his possession. Fuchs is so strong and arms/wrists/hands like a vice that never lets go. I think the Ref was surprised because of the power of Fuchs and called a foul on him but I really think it’s just his physical strength. The Ref fooled himself.
Love how involved Miller has Fuchs involved in the offense. He trusts his ball handling ability and minimal turnovers. Estevez making the offense move better and Kortright really stepping up huge.

Fuchs +15, House +14, Kortright +11, Green +8

Fuchs 11 rebounds game high with Montgomery getting 7 big boards. Highest rebounder for Davidson was only 4 by 4 players as URI won rebound battle 35-27

I don’t. Green needs to start. We are better on both ends of floor with him in the game. He never found his rhythm tonight due to the 2 early fouls. But he’ll learn and adjust.

For Umass Green vs Cross is going to be a battle. Same for Fuchs vs Cohen. If we can hold our own in those matchups I like our back court over theirs.

Haha
And I’m old enough to remember that in fact Miller DID start Wright over Kortright at Point Guard. He moved Kortright over to wing to try Wright at PG and see what the 1st year player could do. So that made me Wright??? Miller played Wright at PG multiple games. Miller’s methodology could very well have made Wright a better back up and sub at PG as A10 Tourney comes around and also helped see what Kortright could do at the wing.

Plus Miller often had Kortright AND Wright in the game at the same time playing 2 PGs.

And then Miller benched Kortright and started Estevez 3 games ago. Kortright then played great that game when he got in and played 34 minutes. Kortright has been in a steady improvement path since with likely his best college performance ever last night.

You can see Miller giving players opportunities. It’s fun to watch his player movement and especially his different lineups with 4 different starting lineups the last 4 games.

Estevez and Fuchs as two Freshman Starters for the start of Conference Play.

Great stuff. The maestro at work!!!! Trust this HC.

Yes Jdrums agree completely.
He also was the recipient of a couple of nice passes down low for easy, high percentage shots. Estevez also got 2 assists.
In the video posted Miller said they are trying to build unselfishness and toughness. Fuchs is very unselfish, he is part of the ball movement and makes easy to catch, accurate passes. He moves well without the ball and I can't remember him being called for an illegal screen and he sets them a lot.
Nice to have promising freshmen in the starting line up playing well.

I don't know if any of you noticed, but Fuchs definitely played at the 5 a bit last night when he was paired with Foumena and Brown for a bit. Also thought he played fantastic defensively. A couple of lapses, but overall very active and disruptive. Archie thought so as well as he was the Defensive Ram of the Game...

Can't understate how impressive this win was.

To control the entire game after they got their best player back was freaking great. I never really felt worried. We established we were the dominant team and we never let up. You can just feel the confidence exuding from the guys. And to do that with Green attempting ONE shot? Yeah we are doin just fine 😎

We also hadn't won there since 2017! That place has NOT been kind to us. We still needed a furious comeback in 2017 to beat them too. I remember melting down during that game, but the boys kicked it into high gear at the very end and ran away with it. Only our 3rd win all time down there, so we got a little bit of a monkey off our back last night too!

This turnaround is one of the more drastic I can remember Rhody having, I mean the 2017 magical nine game run was great, but we already knew they had it in them.

This year? We went from playing like a bottom tier America East team to the top of the A-10 in like....two weeks 😂

Agree.
I saw Fuchs covering Skogman, Logan and Baily who are all 6'10" and also saw him covering Durkin 6'7". I don't see an issue with the 4 vs 5 thing much with Fuchs because Miller seems content with what he is doing. I think Fuchs is faster than some might think. He picked a guard last game clean and went length of the court for the jam and almost did the same thing last night just missing the steal. Late in the game was when I saw Fuchs was now on Baily, a guy who had given our other guys many challenges throughout the game. I thought wow, Miller has now put Fuchs on Baily to try to slow him down.

Miller talked in the post game interview about wanting toughness and unselfishness in the guys and Fuchs checks both of those boxes.

Fuchs uses his body to keep opponents from pushing their way closer to the hoop. He is strong and agile. Nice to see him get the Defensive Player Award.

Haven't been able to respond since before the game. Great win!!!! They actually looked like a team for the first time this year. It was actually enjoyable to watch. Looking forward to the progress they make over the next couple of weeks. GO RHODY!!!!!

Green has just had a crazy great effect on the team's depth and efficiency. He's currently at 14.8 FTA per 40 minutes, which is more than double anyone else on this year's team. That would probably be Top 10 in the nation. It almost has to come back to Earth a bit, but he's great at drawing fouls and getting us to the bonus quicker. With him, we have six guys who deserve regular minutes - Green, Fuchs, Estevez, Montgomery, House and Kortright - and you can play match-ups or try to find the hot hand among the deeper rotation guys - Weston, Foumena, Brown, Wright.

Two of those for regular minutes are freshmen. Maybe things are starting to finally look good for us.

And all of them (crosses fingers) could come back next year. I hope they have the NIL dollars ready for Fuchs and Cam bc there will be suitors.

Gotta say BAR I was thinking the same. Team finally coming together and young. Solid recruits coming in next year. Any exodus of key players would not be good.

If the team is good and there is stability with the staff, there will not be a mass exodus. There could always be one guy that leaves for his own reasons, and in many cases there really wouldn’t be anything we could do about that. But I wouldn’t worry too much about losing everyone if the team finishes the season strong and expects to be very competitive next season.

I agree, I wouldn’t expect a mass exodus if the team finishes strong, but 1 player can make a big difference in basketball; more than most sports…so all it takes is losing that one key player to set you back. All we can do is hope we retain our core and add some new impact talent each year. That would be a win.

I'm pleased with the win, but will not be jumping on this emotional roller coaster just yet. Win the next two games & this bandwagon can pick me back up in Pitsville, on it's way to Glory City.

I look at it this way. If we split Umass and Bonnies and lose at Dayton I love our chances to finish top 5 in the A10. The schedule gets much easier. I agree we need to take this game by game because I could easily see us lose to Umass, Bonnies, Dayton but if we stay healthy teams are going to have a very tough time beating us. Umass is very good. In my opinion they are going to be much tougher to beat than our first two games. I know people were high on st joes but when you have a bad coach like Lange you end up losing games you shouldn’t. They are now 0-2 in the A10…Frank Martin is a much better coach. I have a feeling we lose to UMass and beat the Bonnie’s but I hate UMass so I really hope I’m wrong.

I would not mind that. He could get a feel for how the refs are calling the game from the bench before he picks up some cheap fouls.
