According to the box score the Rams had 10 steals, but the box score also shows the Italian team having only 4 turnovers. How does URI make 10 steals and yet the turnovers for the opposing team totals only 4?

It's just one game but it's surprising that the returning players and the freshmen out played the four guys who sat out last year. Hopefully they shake off the rust and have better games on the trip.

Yeah very lucky to be able to see a highlight clip like that.

The weakside dunk off the rebound by Hassan and the drive to the hoop by EC at the beginning of the highlights both got me very pumped.

And I know its just 4 minute highlights of an exhubition game against inferior opponents, but I swear Hare looks stronger and so much more confident out there.

I really like EC's body control/agility/coordination. That is something that is more of a gift than something you can be taught or develop. The more I watch of him, the more I think that is the quality that could be "special" and potentially set him apart.

Totally agree, I said the same in the other thread after seeing one of his highlight clips. He is very good at using his body to get to the rim and create space. A great quality to have for a guy of his size playing the PG position.

Very simple answer - my stats during the game were more focused on what we were doing, so things like opponent TO are not spot on. But the 10 steals were...

Hoping that tomorrow's game goes a little smoother, from the standpoint of the arena having power and a cell signal.

Two examples in that video of EC being able to get his shot off at the basket. First one, he uses his crossover from left to right and just blows by the guy. The second one, he uses his body to create space. Yes, there are times when it would be better for him to use his right hand at the rim, but his natural ability and smarts make up for that. The fact he is 6'5" with good ups doesn't hurt either.

greetings rhody nation from wonderful san marino...communication and transportation issues aside its been a great trip. my experience with the first game was a microcosm of the team's experience (no lights, no AC, 1800s gym, odd officiating) but thats a story for another time. tough to get a read on much of anything at this point, and i wouldn't read into this game, it was a semi structured street ball game. there was just not much else that could have been done under the conditions. what you cant imagine is how tired these kids are, and then they played bikram basketball in a 95 degree gym.

i am hopeful tomorrow the kids get to play in a closer to normal environment with more rest, and more can be deduced. according to our coach the benefits of this trip were the 10 practices preceding it and all the things going on off the court in italy, versus on it. we had dinner with the team tonight by luck of their being 4 restaurants in the whole town, camraderie and chemistry seem very good, the coaching staff certainly is looking forward to this season. as are all of us.

what i saw in this game worth noting, EC can get by people at any level, powell and X are clear on floor leaders and confident with the ball, and hare, hassan and gil are going to give us a ton of highlight dunks this year.

Hey Laprey, make sure you have some legit excuses next time!! :-D

BAR, thanks for checking in. I figured the games themselves were not the important part of this adventure. As you said, 10 practices and a chance to come together as brothers and as a family is paramount.

Usually when I end up in the position that Mike was in, I only wish I could blame it on a time change.

I love the pic of the film session on the bus. Microcosm of what this regime is in my mind. No wasted opportunities to get better.

A note of reality, here.
Anyone who thinks playing an Italian midget team and
doing well, constitutes instantly removing rust, is fooling themselves.
You have three guys who haven't competed at D-1 level in two years,
and Oneykaba didn't compete with anyone during that time.
A cautionary tale involves the number ONE prep/high school player
in the USA, Lamar Odom.
After a great first game vs. TCU, his game sputtered almost until mid season.
I'd say that Lamar had more talent than anyone on our team this
season. If it took him until mid season, this team is a work in progress.
Let's temper expectations with reality.
A well oiled machine will not appear overnight. Nobody knows this more than
our fine staff. That's why this trip is so important. The more they can play together,
the quicker this will happen.

No, Ace. I know that few transfers or any players sitting out a year, make a seamless change
of schools.
Look at the kid Thompson who went to Wagner. He was supposed to be top 20 five star,
with awesome abilities. He didn't make double figures.
It's not glass half empty, it's I've seen this movie many times.
I expect our team to hit stride after exams in December.
I hope I'm very wrong.

It's Anderson (and he'll be good, last year was kind of unsettled for that whole team), and I agree with what you said here. It was just a combination of reading your thoughts here and about recruiting.

OK. Well, my rant on here, is something I've said numerous times on this
board. I always use Lamar as an example, because we'll never have a number one
here. I've used it over and over, to temper expectations early on. It's surely not personal.
I'd say it to anyone who thinks we'll be world beaters in November.
For those who remember, Abdul Fox, transferred from St. Peter's in NJ.
He was mainly a non factor for the first several games, before he started to become the
killer player we grew to love.
It takes time.
As for the recruiting page, yes, I am very wary of the players Ed Cooley seems to
be stockpiling, and the ones he's got a shot at.
Again, that's the reality of the situation, not negativity.
