Rhode Island Football officially began reloading for the 2024 season, adding two true freshmen and eight transfers on Wednesday's early NLI Signing Day.

The early signing day focused on both sides of the ball, as the Rams added a trio of defensive backs and as many wide receivers go along with a linebacker, a defensive lineman, a running back and an offensive lineman.

"Our staff was intent on finding young men of character that are committed to helping Rhode Island Football progress and this class exemplifies just that," Rhode Island head coach Jim Fleming said. "We searched across the country, pored over the transfer portal and sifted through countless high school tapes to identify these young men who have impressive abilities. There's no denying that our program took a step forward today and I am looking forward to having this group join us."

I still believe this head coach and coaching staff can pull in players. Players from the early signing period who can fill in them open roles and ones from the late signing period who can fill holes and build on the future. We need the next QB to be one with ambition for greater things. Would take a one and done QB if it meant the playoffs.

I would think we would sign another QB after losing both Hill and Nored. It doesn't necessarily mean the staff doesn't think one of our guys isn't ready to take the reigns.
Right now it appears the starting QB would be a battle between Farrell who came from V Tech and the transfer from SCSU Jackson Ostrowsky. Add in the true freshman from Texas and that only leaves us with 3 guys.

Chaas McCoy
Defensive Back
Jersey City, N.J. | West Orange HS
5-11 | 180
Freshman | Lead Recruiter: Brandon Napoleon | Video
A three-year varsity starter for West Orange High School, McCoy brings speed to the cornerback position for Rhode Island with a 4.49 40-yard dash. The New Jersey native offers strength as well, able to bench press 245 pounds. As a senior, he earned First Team All Conference honors after posting 40 tackles and a pair of TFLs, helping West Orange finish at the top of the Freedom Red divisional standings.

Damon McMillian, Jr.
Offensive Lineman
Tampa, Fla. | Armwood HS
6-3 | 335
Freshman | Lead Recruiter: Mike Flanagan | Video
McMillian brings great size to the Rams' trenches, coming in at 6-3 and 335 pounds. A First Team All-Conference honoree for Armwood High School, McMillian has athleticism to match his physicality. His days as a wrestler will offer him strong balance and he also had the coordination to play baseball. McMillian played on both sides of the ball for the Hawks, and lined up in the backfield as a fullback.

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island Football added five more players to its 2024 roster on Wednesday afternoon, signing three true freshmen via National Letter of Intent while adding a pair of four-year college transfers.

The Rams' February signing class includes a pair of defensive backs, a defensive lineman, an offensive lineman and a quarterback. The additions bring the total number of signees, thanks to the 10 that were signed in December and the additional two that chose URI later in the month, to 17.

"As we look ahead and prepare for what the next few years of our program will look like, it's important that we bring in players who are invested in our shared vision," Rhode Island head coach Jim Fleming said. "With this class, we have added guys who will be here, competing for spots and contributing to our culture, for multiple seasons. Our program got better today. We've added size, strength and speed. Now, it's about getting these guys together and getting to work."

Tyler Baker
Quarterback
Lockport, N.Y. | Navy
6-0 | 190

Three years of eligibility | Lead recruiter: Patrick Murphy | Video
A New York State Champion, Baker was a three-year starter for Canisius High School in Buffalo, N.Y. before deciding to attend the United States Naval Academy. He was a three-time First Team All-Catholic, First Team All-County and First Team All-State selection, as well as a two-time League Offensive MVP. Baker threw for 4,703 yards, had 40 passing touchdowns, rushed for 1,460 yards and scored 24 rushing touchdowns in his high school career. He also brings leadership experience, having served as a team captain at Canisius High for two years before honing those skills as a Midshipman.

Thomas Buxton
Offensive Line
Lanoka Harbor, N.J. | Stonehill
6-5 | 330

Two years of eligibility | Lead recruiter: Mike Flanagan | Video
Buxton, who has already enrolled at Rhode Island for the Spring 2024 semester, is a sizable addition to the offensive line. Able to squat 450 pounds as a high schooler at Donovan Catholic, he brings great upside potential when it comes to overall strength and blocking ability. The New Jersey native appeared in 16 career games at Stonehill before transferring to URI. He fielded offers from numerous other programs, including CAA Football foes UAlbany, Bryant, Maine, Monmouth and New Hampshire.

Antonio Morgan
Defensive Back
St. Petersburg, Fla. | Lakewood
6-0 | 165

Freshman | Lead recruiter: Mike Flanagan | Video
A three-year varsity starter for Lakewood High School, Morgan's speed, physicality and football IQ allow him to impact the game in multiple ways. In addition to making 29 total tackles his senior year, he served as a kick returner and averaged 15.2 yards per return, with a long run of 25 yards. He finished his career as a Spartan with 79 total stops and a pair of interceptions to go along with 12 total passes defended. Morgan chose Rhode Island over multiple offers from Ivy League institutions.

Ja'Maree Thomas
Defensive Back
Tampa, Fla. | Wharton
6-0 | 180

Freshman | Lead recruiter: Mike Flanagan | Video
A hard-hitting playmaker, Thomas will be a key piece for the Rams as they reload at the safety position. He recorded nearly 100 career tackles at Wharton (89) and added seven interceptions, three blocked field goals and a fumble recovery. He has also demonstrated talent on special teams, recording 122 yards on six kickoff returns his senior year. Morgan left an offer from Penn State on the table when he elected to come to Rhode Island.

Terrell Spruill
Defensive Line
East Mims, Fla. | Rockledge
6-3 | 250

Freshman | Lead recruiter: Mike Flanagan | Video
A four-year starter for Rockledge High School, Terrell has the potential to compete for a spot on the Rams' defensive line as a true freshman. He has demonstrated his ability to do damage from the interior and can get off blocks to put pressure on the football. Spruill has impressive athletic ability for his size, having developed his footwork and coordination while competing as a thrower for the track & field team. He had offers from multiple SEC powers, including Florida and Tennessee, before choosing Rhode Island.
