This recent ruling on transfers can make a big difference going into conference if upheld.

These 4 transfer players are all expected to make a major impact on their respective teams:
(G) Joe Bamisile- VCU
(F) David Green - URI
(PF/C) Jalen Haynes- GM
(C) Bradley Ezewiro- SLU

Looking at the GM fan site, their expected line-up, now with Haynes.

1.(PG) Polite- Averaging 8 pts(39% 3PT, 86% FT)/ 3 assists
2. (CG) Maddox- Averaging 13 pts (43% 3PT, 85% FT)/ 4 rebs
3. (F) Hall- Averaging 14 pts (36% 3PT, 85% FT)/ 9 rebs
4. (PF) Kelly- Averaging 13 pts (50% 3PT, 83% FT)/ 7 rebs
5. (PF) Haynes- Last season at ETSU averaged 14.6 pts (58%FG)/ 6.4 rebs

This team looks very solid with plenty of talent, size, and depth at guard and in the frontcourt.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Atlantic 10 Conference has secured new five-year agreements with long-time partners CBS Sports, ESPN and NBC Sports for enhanced media and television rights. Great news on the media rights agreement. This part especially stood out to me: "Provides a significant increase in the Conference’s television rights fees"

I've read it's a 40% increase. If I get time I'd like to see how that increase compares to other media deals

Would also be curious 02.
But it may be difficult because I am not sure if the exact details were released.
Also, would need to factor in football vs. non-football conferences and how that weighs into it.

This seemed to have gotten settled pretty quickly (sooner than I thought) so it must have easily passed through the A10 committee.
Dr. Eric Spina President of Dayton and A10 Chair. said he was excited about it.

If I do my math correctly, let's say the last contract was $40M for 15 teams. That's $2.6M per team. A 40% increase makes that $56M for 16 teams or $3.5M. Not much to get excited about.

Reading the details, it says they will cover 98 men's and women's games. With the A10 going to 16 teams, and normally 30 games a year, that's 480 games. My math says this contract will provide 13% of A10 men's games televised. What a joke.

It looks like USA Network is no longer doing regular season games. We have 4 USA conference games this year and 3 CBS games. It looks like 64 games for regular season men's A10 basketball in this new contract. 28 on CBS, 11 on ESPN and 25 on NBC. That's 64 games. An average of 4 games per team.

If it's regular season A10, isn't it, 64 games times 2 A10 teams per game, so 128 'team games'...8 games per team?

I was reading the release on the A10 site. Here’s what I understand…

1. CBS Sports Network - 28 mbb regular season games.
2. ESPN Networks - 11 mbb reg season games.
3. NBC Sports - 25 mbb reg season games.

• all other mbb reg season games streamed on espn+.

• first round of mbb tourney added to linear tv thus the full tourney will be on tv with rounds split between NBC/USA Network and CBS/Paramount+ Network.

• 40% rights fee revenue increase.

Note: the release description lists 40% increase however, if you scroll down to the Agreement Facts - Finances, it says “not disclosed” and “significant increase” for TV rights and doesn’t list 40%.

Note: under Agreement Facts - Platforms, it lists “Additional” for select regional/local linear coverage for non-national games.

Note: more mouths to feed (15 members) under this agreement.

The Providence Journal had some information back in 2012 regarding the A-10 TV deal. The league, which had just added VCU and Butler, signed a deal whereby the then 16-school conference was to earn $40 million over the contract's eight years, or split $5 million a season ($312,500 per team for 16 members).

That deal would have expired just a few years ago. A new contract and new partnerships over time since then probably have increased TV revenues but I highly doubt it was significant. I would therefore think a 40% increase with this new 2023 deal is only likely to amount to a couple of 100K per year for each member.

As a point of reference to the 2012 A-10 TV deal referenced above, the new Big East negotiated its TV deal soon thereafter in March 2013. The BE agreement with Fox was for $500M over the course of twelve years. That, if unchanged (seem to recall that it may have increased with UConn add), equates to $41.67M per year that today with an eleven team membership would work out to $3.79M per school.

Took a little bit of effort to find it. I had recalled that the deal only amounted to some $300k per school annually and this seems to confirm it. Would imagine it is a bit more these days than the original deal. While some may have been excited by the A-10's new deal just announced that will increase revenues by 40%, it is still relatively small money. It is a pittance compared to the Big East which itself still pales in comparison to the big football leagues.

Current NET (12/16), the A10 is still ranked #8, just behind the MWC.

I am still not a fan of the NET, but I know many here put a lot of credence in it and I guess so does the NCAA.

The A10 now has 8 teams with an NET under 100.

You guess the NCAA puts credence in the NET? The NCAA invented it as well as incorporating the 4 QUAD System in which to place wins and losses. When you had RPI, Ken Pom, BPI, Sagarin, Bartovik, CBSSports, AP for Top 25+, ESPN Coaches Poll for Top 25+..... NCAA could have easily put together a plan to Rank Teams without inventing and managing their own Ranking System that they keep private as to the formula plus maintaining the ability to change the criteria and formulas whenever they want without even having to tell anyone. Classic Fox Guarding the Hen House.

The distrust level of the NCAA grows and grows as evidence by this latest action by the Courts regarding the Waiver Process and then going so far as to say if players play during the 2 weeks they will lose the entire year - only to have the Courts say no to that as well interpreting that move as unfair.

I have not trusted the NET since Day 1 but it's what the NCAA uses. They threw out the other Ranking Systems as sources.

Ramster, you know I said that facetiously. ;)
Besides I know how much you always loved the NET. "NOT".
It also gave the consultants who invented it, on behalf of the NCAA, something to do and get paid for it.

Getting at least 2 and hopefully 3 bids only helps the perception of the league going forward. Can only help with recruiting.

@ Dayton
Rough stretch. We have a lot of work to do.
Actually pre-season predictions I thought we would finish ahead of both UMass and Davidson, now obviously not so sure.
I hear ya, Jersey. The team is in a funk right now. They need a spark.

Until we prove this team can win on the road, I think UMass may be our best chance.
Yeah was thinking that too but UMass seems to give us fits lately too

FREE DUBS
Ah yes, the slight freshman who can’t play defense or hold up physically against bigger opponents will lead us to the top of the league.

Just like last year when you said we’d be Top 4 and competing for a tourney bid and I called you out, I'm sure this Dubsky prediction will be spot on too!
