Good road win for Delaware - even if it is against an Xavier team missing key players and therefore, not as good as expected.
Delaware will be a tougher home game for us than I first expected. That said, I counted it as a win when predicting our record and I will stick with that.

That's a plus 300 Navy team that is awful.

Thanks for the heads up. Much appreciated.
Now it’s an even tougher game than the tougher game I thought it would be about a half hour ago. Still, not as tough as playing them at their place so, I will stick with a win, unless….
You come back here and post the game has been moved to the Carpenter Center.

No sense to poke fun at Loyola for playing a NAIA team, Goshen, when URI played a D3 team in JWU. Practically no difference in NAIA and D3. What it does show is the increasing difficulty of mid-major D1 teams have in scheduling a full compliment of 31 D1 opponents.

Yes Obadiah, like I have been saying all along scheduling the OOC games is not easy, so I have no issues with our 18 game in-conference schedule.
Besides hard to knock Loyola's OOC schedule, they played 2 teams that were ranked in the top 10, plus Tulsa in Oklahoma, and decent Harvard and BC teams.

Re: Games of Interest - 2023-2024 MBB
Obadiah,
In my mind I was poking fun at the whole slate of A10 games for this Saturday that I listed in the thread as none of the A10 Games struck me as very enticing and having never heard of Goshen I sarcastically mentioned for some levity.
So on a serious note I got curious and I dug into the concept of scheduling NON D1 Teams. Findings:
- 8 A10 Teams scheduled NON D1 Teams.
- St Louis and GW scheduled D2 Teams
- URI, GMU, LaSalle scheduled D3 Teams and Davidson scheduled Two(2) D3 Teams
- Loyola and Duquesne scheduled NAIA Teams.
- 7 A10 Teams scheduled only D1 Opponents in OOC
So who URI or Loyola or any other A10 Team plays in D2, D3, NAIA doesn't really matter to me. Not much difference than playing 300+ D1 Teams like Wagner, Fairfield or Central Connecticut State.
My guess is from looking at the schedule below is that A10 Teams have limited options once they schedule their preferred OOC D1 Opponents. URI scheduled J&W on Wednesday before Thanksgiving sandwiched between Sunday's game vs Washington State on Nov 19 in Connecticut and Yale on Sunday Nov 26 at Ryan Center. Miller might have thought the team might need a rest after the Northwestern and Washington State game and prior to the Yale and PC Games. I'd say he was right if that was his thinking.
Again I don't mind the D2, D3 or even NAIA games. Fact that 8 A10 HC's scheduled Teams from these levels says they are not opposed to it. Is this because the P5 won't cater to Mid Majors? Possibly, probably.........but my guess is it has more to do with having put together a schedule that had some openings to where a game would make sense and the availability of opponents is limited because it's late in the scheduling game. Could also have to do with travel and the costs of travel. Traveling the day before Thanksgiving at Airports, Train Stations and Interstates is rough and very expensive. J&W makes is easy and economical.
Davidson scheduled 2 NAIA Opponents: Washington and Lee (220 miles away) 0n Nov 6 and Lynchburg (200 miles away) on Dec 16 (school out)
Maybe as P5's scoop down to Mid Majors to steal talent and Mid Major's scoop down to Low Mid Majors to steal talent that some HC's are also looking at D2, D3 and NAIA to replenish their rosters as well. Got to get players from somewhere. The drop down of 4-star and 5-star players from P5 Teams to Mid Majors doesn't seem to have materialized as some predicted would happen.
A10 Teams that did not schedule any NON D1 Teams in OOC:
Dayton
VCU
St Bonaventure
St Joseph's
Fordham
UMASS
Richmond

Lee, Allocco, and Pierce are solid for them.
Not sure if St. Joe's big Essandko will be available today.
Big game for Urgo and Fordham to try and get back to even and beat a quality team at home.
After last year, much was expected of them this season and many had them in the top tier of the A10.

So should I add Bustin Brackets “Way to Early Poll” to the group of 10? And way too early polls from last April? I only took the Polls and Publications from September and Mostly from October.
Loyola had more Top Tier predictions than Fordham with Barttorvik snd Ken Pom putting Loyola #2 and #3 respectively. Good grief.

I did think that Loyola will be much improved, no-where else to go from 15, but definitely not a contender.
I also think their talent level is better than their coach, but he is still very young and inexperienced so we will see.
Their best player Alston just recently returned, that should help.
Also surprised that (F)Schwieger (2023 A10 All-Rookie Team) and started the final 26 games for them is getting very little run this year and out of the rotation. Not sure if it is injury related.

Yeah I don’t have a major problem with scheduling a non D1, I think a decent majority of the 362 teams schedule 1ramster wrote: ↑4 months agoObadiah,

I know some don't like URI scheduling Johnson & Wales. For me it doesn't matter. I read all the angst about it but for me the A10 OOC is just like spring training for the A10 Conference Tournament. Find the right starting line up, find the top 2 Substitution guys and maximize their "gelling" (did that just for NYG208). Then get the best possible Seeding and head to Barclay's to complete for the A10 AQ in 2nd week of March. That's it. There is no At-Large Bid for URI this season and highly unlikely for any other A10 Team. It's all about the Tournament.
