As I have been thoroughly reminded throughout the season by RR02 and others:

7-4, 5-3 still gives you a chance on selection day. You take care of business, and then you wait and see how other teams you are competing against fare.

The big issue is our 3 wins came against teams with a combine conference record of 3-14 and the teams left to play are currently 2-8.

Our three losses came against 3 teams, ranked 2, 3 and 4 in our Conference, who are likely all going to the playoffs. We have basically no shot of picking off any of those top 4 including Delaware. It's Elon and W&M that are vulnerable. They both play three tough games apiece to end both of their seasons.

We just need to keep plugging along. We are expected to beat NC A&T, especially at home. And then Towson will be looking to spoil our season.

But we do not have any bad losses.

All away games are tough. Towson could go like it did in Orono, or it could go like it did in Villanova and Albany.

It really comes down to the playcalling. This team has plenty of talent. They have a good runningback. They have very good receivers. They have a quarterback that is 25 years old and should be beating 20 and 21 year olds. It really comes down to the game plan from here on out.

I would like to be wrong, but I think URI's only path to a playoff bid would be 1) beating the absolute crap out of the bad teams left on their schedule, to make the argument that they're "peaking" right now and 2) hoping a couple teams ahead of them stumble, especially if they get blown out. Otherwise, its kind of hard to argue that you're a playoff team when you've pretty much lost to every other playoff team you played. For the year, URI is 257 points for, 251 points against, and they're 5-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play - they are very middle of the road, even if they've had some boom or bust results to get there.

Yeah, well, they are going to have to be a lot less conservative with the playbook, than throwing the ball only 7 yards beyond the line of scrimmage out of fear of throwing an interception or turning the ball over. We are way beyond the point of no return now. They need to play like they did in that second half Saturday for every half, all 4 halves remaining. They need to keep the other team's secondary back so that McKenzie can do his thing. Shouldn't be a problem against NC A&T, but that last game, they can't afford to design a playbook like Josh McDaniels giving Matt Cassel his first shot at quarterback, with Randy Moss and Wes Welker in the lineup twiddling their thumbs, and allow Towson to run up 30 points in the meantime. They didn't do that vs Georgia St in Atlanta, but they go to Villanova, PA, and act like they are playing Notre Dame in South Bend. Paralyzed by fear of doing anything.

It won't guarantee a playoff birth, but it will put them no worse than last season when they were passed over.

Because Mckenzie has been fantastic.
I feel like once they are playing from behind, they have a tendency to feel like they have to throw the ball. With the lead, they are able to lean on Mckenzie more. Defense has to step up and get a stop.

The program has only made the 1AA/FCS playoffs a total of three times, all under Coach Bob Griffin - 1981, 1984, and 1985. Record of 2-3 in those appearances.
