I was there as well. That was an action packed thriller from start to the end of the second OT.

Abdul is in rare company for URI players as he is one of just a few in program history to have experienced wins in both the NIT (Vanderbilt/BC) and NCAA (Purdue).

Also was there in Conte and that has to be on a list of Top 5 wins. Went to Utah for the next one and we got smacked.

Never in the game. UNC players were taller, bigger, faster.
It was a long drive home. Very high from Purdue win, low from UNC crushing

So question then Scott, for Fox, is how did the players feel about the UNC team? And that game? Nothing can erase the ncaa appearance and the win over Purdue but what about the experience that weekend in NC? What memories did the team bring back?

Abdul was one of the most exciting players that I can remember. Never shied away from a big shot and moment. I don’t remember the stats, but we beat a very good Temple team at home in 1992-1993 by 2 points. One of the best games that I’ve seen. Aaron McKie had a huge game but our guys matched him and came up clutch, especially Fox. Abdul is a Rhody legend for sure!

It seemed like almost every game he would get a steal and go coast to coast and finish with a dunk…sometimes a nice reverse one to really get the crowd going.

I remember that 112-67 drubbing it was ugly from the start

I was friendly with Abdul at URI. We weren't buddies, but he was a very good student and he was average guy when he wasn't on the basketball court. You could talk to him about sports or anything and he treated you like an equal. I have nothing but great memories of Abdul from our URI days
