This addition is more confirmation that URI seems to be changing its transfer portal philosophy. In recent years, Rhody has added many players from higher profile teams moving down. Most of these were not starters. Seems that Archie is now focused on taking players looking to move up from lower profile schools.
I am not sure it is a change of philosophy so much as just depending upon the player and who the staff feels they have a chance to get and be a good fit.
Yeah I don't think they aren't looking at bench players from P6 schools. Just depends on extenuating circumstances.
In the past the great players at smaller schools were just less willing to sit out a year if they weren't a grad transfer. We still saw a lot of grad transfer low major players over the years.

That and the fact that this program is not very attractive to a lot of recruits at this point, coming off a disastrous season. Sure some kids can be sold on being a major part into bringing this program back to relevance again . And we have 4 recruits that appear to be all in on that, which is great. But there are also many that want to win at a higher level right away that we may not be able to do right now.
If we can win 15 games next year and 20 the year after, I think the range of the group of players that would be interested will grow in numbers and in talent. I think we will be able to grasp what his strategy will truly be in the coming years.

Why did we hire Archie? To attract recruits based on prior coaches disaster efforts? No, we hired him to be like Dan Hurley and get recruits and get this program back up and running. The program when Hurley took over was a disaster. He got recruits and turned it around. I expect the same and more from Miller.
To compare what Hurley faced and what Archie faces ignores drastic changes to the basketball landscape.

Sorry folks - I work for a college communications office, and given the time of year (three weeks out from commencement), I've had less time to edit and prune things as needed. Also, given the nature of recruiting now, there usually isn't much point to making a player profile unless they've actually visited.

Since he posted soon after Always committed, I thought he may have meant will Luis now stick with us.

Hope to see some good competition at PG between Luis, Always, and Cam.
Right now, would have to give Luis the edge based on experience alone.
All 3 with their size and skills have the ability to play both guard positions.
Couple of things regarding Luis, still bothering me.
He hasn't been a true PG, Dezi started at the point for Quinnipiac.
Also he must dramatically improve his FT% from 55% if he is to be our primary ball handler, facilitator, and team quarterback.
However his assist to turnover ratio does give me some hope.
Like I said this team has plenty of question marks this season.

Early on, he wasn't really playing anything but the 2/3 for Quinnipiac, but they realized that he was very efficient with the ball in his hands, so he started running the offense a lot more. The truth is, if we had Dezi on this team, he would be our starting point guard. That's why Louie didn't handle the point as much. With our current roster, he is probably our best option to start the season, and I think he proved he could do it well last season. We have enough guys on the roster that can handle the rock. I'm not too worried.

Yes Stevey Luis will probably start at PG.
I hope he spends a lot of time this off-season working on his free throw shooting.
