VCU, SB, Davidson, and Dayton on the road. Tough games but opportunities for Q 1 and 2 wins.

Other years, playing LaSalle and Mason twice would be good break in pairings. But coming from where we are, all conference games are tough ones, no? Not exactly a great home sked for ticket sales.

Dayton in Dayton. Davidson in NC. Bonny in Olean. All tough outs.
Could be worse. At least we get St. Louis, Richmond, and SJU all at home.

I'm not going to cry about a home and home with UMass.
Don't think along the lines of "that's an easy one" because there are no easy ones. Just concentrate on making the Ryan a bitch for opposing teams, and trying to steal a few on the road. and go from there.

I don't see it. Fans are normally pretty smart to not just winning, but who you beat. There are only like 3 or 4 games that will move the needle if we win. The two Mohegan games, at PC, and at Seton Hall if it happens.Jersey77 wrote: ↑10 months agoMy feeling is that if we start winning, they will sell tickets regardless.RhowdyRam02 wrote: ↑10 months agoOK, but in the context of selling tickets, which is what we were talking about, am I wrong saying it's not good?
I don't dislike the schedule from a competitive balance standpoint and from getting our program going, but if my job was to sell tickets I wouldn't like it at all

Re: 2023-24 Schedule (top post is current)
Winning and premier college names sell tickets. That’s about it. Yes would the ticket office have liked a Dayton or VCU home game? Of course. But that’s a blip on the radar vs tickets sold for the whole season.RhowdyRam02 wrote: ↑10 months agoI don't see it. Fans are normally pretty smart to not just winning, but who you beat. The OOC schedule here was never going to be enough of a draw on a name brand basis. And that’s fine, we’re not proven enough to warrant it.
This team, coming into hopefully the end of a rebuild, will fill the building by winning on the court and therefore simultaneously winning fan interest back.

Getting blown out at home by top tier teams isn't going to generate much interest or enthusiasm by the fans.
Last season we lost at the RC to a shorthanded UMass team by 24 points, go figure.

This...is why season tickets holders should be looked at more kindly as 'donors'. You don't need season tix to get in the building and could probably get better seats for less if you wanted to work at it (I don't). I knew someone that went to the majority of games last year and never bought a single ticket.RhowdyRam02 wrote: ↑10 months ago11/6 Central Connecticut Mondaysection(105) wrote: ↑10 months ago Other years, playing LaSalle and Mason twice would be good break in pairings. Re: 2023-24 Schedule (top post is current)
The only way we get a better schedule is win. The A10 (rightly so) schedules the best teams from the prior year against each other. If this team wants a good schedule, they better beat a ton in conference this year. When we were winning with DH, we had VCU, Dayton, SLU or Richmond. Home and Home. Finishing 10th in conference gets you bottom barrel schedule.

If you want NCAAT appearances, you've come to the wrong Conference.
In the A-10, only 1 out of 15 goes to the NCAA.

That’s my sentiment exactly. If 1 bid becomes the norm and not an outlier and we are not the perennial 1 team, then we are now any other crappy no name mid major only with better facilities and a highly overpaid head coach. Let’s hope that the A10 gets its sh!t together fast.

Steady growth happens at the majority of mid
Major schools. Archie isn’t a miracle worker and we’re currently not at the top of the list for transfers.
But then again, your expectations are very unrealistic for this program so it is what it is.

ahh here comes 15. We have an 8k seating arena on campus. Top of the line. We pay our coach $2.5M a year. I expect things for what I pay for. Maybe you don't? Perhaps because you don't contribute? Not sure. Go see a Bryant game on campus, then come back to URI and tell me what you think about the two programs.Rhody15 wrote: ↑10 months agoIf you don’t want steady growth then go cheer for a blue blood where you’ll get second weekend appearances every other season.theblueram wrote: ↑10 months agoYup. Because no way or shape is this team going to compete for the A10 title this season.
Of course we all want to win, compete for championships, and get regular NCAAT bids.
But some of us realize that it won't happen overnight, and it will take a little time to get the program back on track again.

Well sure. I know Archie Miller is a great coach and can make it happen. But that was prior to NIL and the transfer portal. It's a bit tougher/easier now? I see some good recruiting gains. But will the players stick? Lot's of questions now.Jersey77 wrote: ↑10 months agoSo, I guess at this time you are disappointed in this staff's performance.rjv wrote: ↑10 months ago WE NEED TO WIN GAMES AND PLAY HIGH CALIBER TEAMS!!!!!

The NIL and the portal have benefitted the P6 schools.
The A10 losses in the portal have far outweighed the gains.
Also conference expansion and scheduling in the P6 hasn't helped schools like us either.

It was never easy to win at Rhody. We had a beautiful arena for how long before it saw a conference winning team? No different now. It’s not built over night. This is Archie’s first real recruiting class and the first kid in the door is a potential great building block. This year a realistic expectation is to get from the bottom to the middle. Rarely if ever does an A10 program go from worst to first so anyone expecting that is just out of whack. Trust Archie.

Re: 2023-24 Schedule (top post is current)
With ten new scholarship players on the roster I don't think we can conceivably have any real expectations whether to the to good side or the bad .
Uri could end up anywhere from one to fifteen in the league . Nobody knows much about this roster except for possibly the coaching staff , and even
they would be probably be hedging their bets on where the team will finish . Not having seen the play of any of the ten new guys I will try to be optimistic and hope for a far more talented group this coming season . Archie has a track record for building outstanding teams and getting the most out of his talent so let's hope he has been able to put together the kind of roster he is used to having . In my mind there is reason for optimism that URI will be highly competitive again in the A10 and be a threat to the top teams .
