That's a great preferred walk-on. He had offers from UMass and possibly Rutgers (depending on recruiting sites). Family history, no scholarship use, and what appears to be a serviceable player is a nice win.

Those offers were from 2020, so I guess he didn't develop like Rutgers and UMass thought he would.
nevertheless, best walk on recruit in Rhody history! Lol

It will take some doing to be better a better walk-on than Percy Davis or Willie Middlebrooks.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑11 months ago Those offers were from 2020, so I guess he didn't develop like Rutgers and UMass thought he would.

Ramster, I'm sure the youngsters here have no idea who those guys (cousins) are. Percy could jump through the roof. They both played on the sub-varsity team before making the team. Great guys too.ramster wrote: ↑11 months agoIt will take some doing to be better a better walk-on than Percy Davis or Willie Middlebrooks.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑11 months ago Those offers were from 2020, so I guess he didn't develop like Rutgers and UMass thought he would.

No such thing anymore. There really are no more rails on the ships - jumping is pretty much "at will" these days. Say what they want about have fun, just one, or the "sit and spin" year, there will be no reason shot down for immediate eligibility to play.jcru wrote: ↑1 year agoRelevancy is an illusion. Need to continue to keep connections and build pipelines, also important for having those previous relationships with players entering the portal.
It is up to the coaches to try and keep the players, by making our program relevant.
It's bad enough when other people set you up for failure, I'd hate to see you set yourself up for failure by thinking that simply winning is going to keep a talent like RJ Luis here. We need a healthy, hearty mix of players who cannot jump ship.

Don’t forget Nelson Lopes, he had a knuckleball shot but it went in.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑11 months agoRamster, I'm sure the youngsters here have no idea who those guys (cousins) are. Looks like a pure PG. Only 5'11". but lightning quick and an elite passer. An exciting player. I think he needs his own page.

Believe that’s an elite DMV program? Didn’t Jeremy Roach (Duke) come from there amongst others?

Re: General High School Recruiting Discussion/Comments 2023-24
One of the best in the country. They went 31-4 this past season against elite competition. Kenny Johnson coached there from '07-'11. Just on this year's team, they had Deshawn Harris-Smith, ranked #37 in '23 class and comitted to Maryland, Darren Harris, #94 in '24 class and committed to Duke, Patrick Ngbongba, #65 in '24 class with offers from Duke, UConn, Virginia, Maryland, Syracuse and many others and Garrett Sundra, #72 in '24 class with offers from Maryland, Miami, Villanova and many others (including us). Hammond ran that team. If he wasn't so small (listed at 5'11", but looks smaller), he'd be getting many of the same offers. He's really good, one to be excited about.bigappleram wrote: ↑11 months ago Believe that’s an elite DMV program? Didn’t Jeremy Roach (Duke) come from there amongst others?

Hammond would be a great get, and we are one of the better teams recruiting him.

It'd be nice to get a verbal after his visit in a couple of weeks and an early sign in November because he could blow up his senior season.

I couldn’t tell from IG video but it looked to be a shorter guard - maybe Preston Edmead? Just a guess…

Re: General High School Recruiting Discussion/Comments 2023-24
I wonder how many '24s we try and sign knowing there aren't any open schollies as of now. Yes, I know some will open up, but is there a number that the staff has in mind?

Probably no specific #, just those recruits that he feels will make a difference and upgrade our roster.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑10 months agoI wonder how many '24s we try and sign knowing there aren't any open schollies as of now. This must be the kid who visited recently. Interesting that we're recruiting another '24 PG with Ben Hammond announcing on Tuesday.
