It looks like this years NCAAT will be the first time all four #1 seeds failed to make the Elite 8. Excellent tourney.

Of San Diego State's top seven, four are transfers. Florida Atlantic has three transfers and one juco player among its top nine in MPG. All four #1 seeds are out before the Elite Eight, the first time that's happened according to the NCAA. More player movement is good for competition.

Exactly! Something for people to keep in mind next time they get the urge to claim the sport is ruined forever or whatever.

First time since seeding began in the 70s.

Wait until Xavier wins and there are no 1s or 2s in the elite 8.

Right. How could anyone be mad at Hurley for taking that job? Coaches, just like players, want to compete at the highest level and he wasn’t going to sniff this level in Kingston. No one has to like it: it’s just the reality of the situation.
Yes he could have

The damn 2017 team we had wasn't that far off from his current team

We definitely could have continued to go to the tournament and have plenty of chances to make runs
Agree to disagree here. With four national championships in the last 25 years, UCONN is a national brand. This lends itself to a consistency of higher level recruits year in and year out. Also, currently, the BE is a better league than the A10.
I have to bring this back up. I know you don’t want to overrate one tournament run, or one Sweet Sixteen game, albeit a dismantling of a Power 5 school that defeated a number one seed in its previous game, but do people still think the ceiling for the 2017 URI team was as high as the ceiling for this UCONN team? UCONN defends at an elite level when they get it going and when Hawkins is on, he’s an elite shooter. Having a player like Clingan off the bench is a luxury most teams don’t have.

True. But I am just talking potential of team vs team regardless of seeding.

Hypothetically, if you could transport that Rhody team (healthy) forward in time and insert that team into this UConn teams’ time line at the start of the NCAAT, I believe that Rhody team very well could be playing in the Elite 8 today, imho.

I can’t prove it, but neither can it be disproved. We will just never know but, the hypothetical could make a great X-Files movie, however.

D2 National Championship on with Nova Southeastern against West Liberty. The Sharks of Nova Southeast feature two guys of note. Tomas Murphy, brother of Erik and Alex (and son of Jay) from Wakefield, and RJ Sunahara who is the brother of former URI hooper/football player and current XFL long snapper Rex Sunahara.

Bos, I’ve been watching it. Good game; a high scoring track meet back and forth with good 3 pt shooting mixed in. 👍

I like Nova SE’s PG. He’s short but good: quick with the ball and a good passer. I really liked that first half touchdown pass he made. It was right on the money for a layup.

FAU.

C-USA.

No 4* star kids.

No ESPN or CBS articles.

Final Four.

Edit: 4* Jalen Gaffney from UConn but I was told 4* transfers from P6 programs who didn’t produce don’t count as 4* kids.

Funny thing Red,
FAU had a NET =13 on March 12. AP Ranked 25

But NCAA gave FAU a 9 seed. 13 NET Rank should be a 3, max 4 seed. Not a 9 seed.

Dan Gavitt and team doesn't even go with what their own contrived NET indicates in seeding.

FAU was picked to finish 5th in conference USA in the preseason poll.

Them coming out of nowhere, winning 30 games and making the final four has to be the most remarkable thing in college basketball history.

I mean they had ZERO tradition before this. A completely irrelevant, below average low major just suddenly puts everything together and is sitting in the final four at 35-3.

Gross negligence placing them in the tourney as a 9 seed. And now, FAU is making them choke on it.

It really is Jdrums,
NCAA makes their own NET Ranking system then places the NET 13 Team as a 9th seed. It's not like they gained the 13th spot late in the season. They had been highly ranked for numerous weeks.

If you are going to have the system then use it fairly.

Kansas State 8th straight loss in the Elite 8. Last win in Elite 8 was 1964.
I would not have fouled the same FAU player in the final seconds who had just made 2 pressure FTs hitting all net. He went 4-4 FT in the last minute to win the game.
