And THAT is why the Cartel wants to hog all the at-large berth to themselves, and why obvious nepotism hire Dan Gavitt has the committee pit the hoi polloi against the riffraff.

Love how the TV camera angles shows a 1/2 court shot from behind the defensive basket, love those baseline views of the 1/2 court action, especially to see the defense. Wish they did more.

Okay now I have read this article

What a piece of hot garbage

It doesn't prove that the 2019 run was blip

It proves that the NCAA tournament is just a total crapshoot

Virginia dominating in the ACC for the better part of a decade with less talent than Duke and UNC is not a blip. A program that does that and then wins the national title is not a fluke.

X unfortunately made a late comeback - down 61-48 with perhaps 9 to play. X took a 1 point lead with 17 secs to play. Kennesaw St had a chance at the winner - but a pretty open layup was blocked. However, two fouls should have been called on X - the shooter was fouled making his move to the layup (should have been called before the shot), then they got the rebound, but lost it when X hacked the rebound from behind. Also no call. Now I don't know if K St was in the bonus (likely with 2 plus secs left) so don't know if there would/should have been shots. But they absolutely got hosed by a lack of a call.

When he is jogging down the court Schreiver (not sure of the spelling) # 35 for VCU reminds me of the chief from the movie, One Who Flew Over the Cookoo’s Nest, during the outdoor basketball scene.

Good back and forth game between the two teams so far.

VCU loses to St Mary's 63-51. While VCU has regularly got to the NCAA Tournament since it joined the A-10 (8 appearances since 2013), it has struggled to win tournament games. The Rams from Richmond despite many more NCAA appearances have the same number of NCAA victories (2) as do the Rams of Kingston during the period when they have been A-10 conference mates.

As NCAA bids have declined for the A-10 in recent years, so too have tourney wins as well. This has greatly impacted the share units for NCAA revenue. A unit is equal to each game played in the tournament. Units get paid out over a six year period after they are earned going to the conference to distribute as they see fit. The A-10 gives the greatest revenue share of its units to its teams which earned them, keeps some for administration expenses, and then distributes the rest to its other members. This league now has the most teams it has ever had. After VCU and the league take their bite of this season's ONE unit, there will not be much left to distribute to the other fourteen members. The NCAA pie and its member slices for the A-10 are getting much smaller over time.

Gotta start winning NCAA games, no excuses.

A 15 seed has won a game in like 7 outta the last 11 tourneys, along with other 10+ seeds (obviously).

Put up or shut up time for the A10.

5-6 years later our 2 wins are still the best league performance in the tourney since then. That’s not good for the league.

Not sure that Iona’s interior defense is even trying that much, but I do agree that the Hurley offense is definitely more fluid and also attack heavy. He is lucky to have a player like Sanogo who is basically a mix between the speed and athleticism of Zion and the shotblocking ability of Hassan Martin.

He dominated today, Reef.

If he (and the team) plays like this against St Mary’s, they should win comfortably (7-10 pts), I think and have a good shot of taking out Kansas, too, if KU gets by Arkansas.

There’s never been a game played in any sport in history in which the disparity in the regard I hold the respective coaches was wider than the UConn/Iona game today. Super happy for Dan. I worry a little that if he doesn’t win super big there soon their fans won’t appreciate what they have. I’ve always assumed it’s just a matter of time for him but it feels like the time could be now. His team is really good.
