He entered and came back once. Doing it a second time seems unlikely, imo.

Hope i'm wrong.
You basing Ish leaving on a hunch because some P5 will come calling?
Wasn’t a hunch…. I just didn’t want to post it on here until it became official
Well damn

Guess he would like to know what it's like to win games 😔

Not getting all conference after the season he had was the last straw I think.

He looked completely dejected after losing to La Salle. That gave me a bad feeling there.

Ha we just lost our two best players from a 9-22 team

This is truly disappointing, and it tells you he doesn’t think there much chance of a significant improvement anytime soon. Archies job just got a lot harder. Next year now looks like it may be even worse than last.

Sadly I’m calling DC beltway for Ish and I called it a couple weeks ago.

Terps or Hoyas (depending on coach selection)

Disappointed (very)

Would love to know your rationale on that.

So you’re telling me since he didn’t make 3rd team all league he’s leaving for a better conference where he definitely won’t make all league?

That’s a BIG stretch, and frankly can’t see that having any impact at all.

Three straight losing seasons, not playing for the coach he was recruited by, no major help on the horizon for next season and NIL all most likely having something to do with him leaving.

Not some stupid all conference team.

If there was more talent around him he would have been second team with his numbers. He doesn’t want to be on a losing team anymore probs, and I can’t be mad at him for it

Maybe he waited a day or two for other players to go in the portal, and when they didn't, he said to himself if you don't I will.

Ish leaving and the expulsion of Bray (which I was fine with) basically means we start all over again next year. This could be a much longer process than I had hoped.

Based on my timeline for URI returning to the NCAAT, Ish wouldn't be here three years from this season. I understand Ish leaving, wish him well, but it has little impact on when URI will dance again.

Well, Archie’s work just got a bit harder. Maybe Archie had feelings along the way toward the end of season. He openly talked about Ish quiet leadership skills etc. So maybe he was semi prepared. Best for ya Ish. Your move Coach. Maybe without Ish, other in the portal will view the Rhody opportunity differently than with Ish being here. I guess, others now will follow out the door. Good grief Charlie Brown.

Yeah I am not as optimistic now as I was a few days ago reguarding the rebuild , college hoops is just a new game these days with this darn portal and now we just have to hope Arch can outrecruit our competition for talent

If he is THAT important, that his loss means that much, we need to all give up... this is not Michael Jordan leaving, I mean, not even a third team all (very crappy) conference-er. ;)
If we need that talent level, that badly...yikes. A nice player, sure, but I was hoping like h that he wouldn't be the best or even second best player on next year's team...

Just read the quote from Ish more closely, regarding his options, including URI, so maybe he checks out other offers and then stays? Not sure how that works.

I think when he says including Rhode Island, it's more likely he's waiting for Ed Cooley to announce he's staying at Providence, than coming back here to play for this.

Gots a ways to go still....at this point, one (not even third team all conference in one of the crappiest conferences in America) guy staying or leaving, doesn't seem that critical... like we've said, "dealer, I'll take 13, please"

I agree on the new college basketball. It is becoming an awful sport. It was by far my favorite sport to follow, but this is ridiculous. I am not in the corner of we have Archie so we have to succeed. He hasn’t done much so far that has been impressive? He needs to keep a kid like this. I’m not sure that Archie is a great recruiter. I guess we will see this off season. We have nothing on this team to build around. It feels like every year will come down to winning the A-10 tourney. Even if they got better and lucky with some players next year they will leave for greener pastures.

maybe....still not a centerpiece of a winning team though, imo. We were just spoiled by his play in comparison to (fill in the blank with any Rhody player). Good teams usually have a guy or two that's solidly third team level or better as opposed to one "questionable between 3rd and 4th team" guy?

If you do the math, 2000 divided by 350…
It feels like every single underclassman who has the option open will be in the portal every year gong forward.
And I don’t think I can blame any of them.
They love to get wined and dined, and we’re talking LEGALLY now about millions of dollars with the NIl.
Ish has the opportunity to provide for himself and his family TODAY.
If I was in his place I would most certainly entertain some offers.
Hearing Dan Yorke say my name would be cool, but it doesn’t pay for anything.

Not getting all conference after the season he had was the last straw I think.

Yup that's what I said. The ONLY reason he's leaving is because of a conference award. Exactly what I said.. Once again, you don't read. I said it was likely the last straw. Do you need me to explain to you what the last straw means? There are several reasons why he's leaving. I don't know all of them. But I was told some things, and people on here that I trust got messages from me about it days ago. Which is exactly why I added Ish to the list of people I thought would transfer.. Whether you want to believe it or not, losing all the time was taking a toll on him. Losing while having an awesome season and not getting any recognition from the conference also did.

Not making all conference shouldn't have any impact on a player leaving a crappy conference, not even last straw level, I would hope.
If it had any impact at all....you probably don't want the player anyway. I'm certain that Ish would say that had absolutely nothing to do with it (even in confidence), and I'd believe him. It just sounds silly...like, "I didn't make all conference, so I'm going to ....what? A) 'take my ball and go to a crappier conference where I will', or, 'B) a better conference where I have no chance?"

It's a sucky thing that he got no props, but I don't see it as a factor for anything...

A) 'take my ball and go to a crappier conference where I will', or, 'B) a better conference where I have no chance?"

It's a sucky thing that he got no props, but I don't see it as a factor for anything...
Thank you. Spot on.

My guess is Ish has had enough playing for bad teams. He would like to play for a winner at some time in his college career. That was not likely to happen if he stayed at URI.

I literally just said losing for three years was probably a reason, so of course I believe that.

And I’m the one who doesn’t read lol
Here is the definition for the last straw. Maybe this will help you understand.. Probably not though

a further difficulty or annoyance, typically minor in itself but coming on top of a whole series of difficulties, that makes a situation unbearable.
Not making all conference shouldn't have any impact on a player leaving a crappy conference, not even last straw level, I would hope.

It matters to players and parents (there is a clue for you) that your team is so bad that you can have an awesome individual season and still get zero recognition. Especially someone like him that's been dealing with us being terrible for a while. I don't think an award would ever be the main reason, and I never said it was. I think there are many reasons why he's leaving and it just started to add up over time and that was the most recent negative thing that has happened to him.

I wonder how this will change Archie’s team building strategy. It seems to me that trying to build a team by getting old together may have gone out the window.

So if what you’re saying is true, him and his parents were sick of the team being so bad (wouldn’t blame em), that means they had zero faith in Archie to improve the team, which doesn’t reflect well on him and the staff.

Not sure why people are shrugging off the Ish departure. He was our best player, by far. This one will hurt.

I'm thinking the only way it "doesn't reflect well on Arch and staff" is if Ish and family are renowned "coach evaluators"? Are they?

No one is shrugging it off. People are coming to the realization that college basketball is becoming a joke similar to professional sports and also that anyone who thought we would automatically be good because Archie is here will be sadly mistaken. Ish was far and away the best player on team.
