Re: 2022-23 Prediction Contest Summary
I think the player who will see their scoring average with a little bump up will be Tchikou or Samb, whichever one of them is playing. One of the things Bassy does well is drive the lane and dump it off to the big. I want to see more of that.

Agreed. On a minor note, the contest covers the regular season and A-10 tourney games are not included.SGreenwell wrote: ↑1 year ago Assuming that nobody else has a weird scoring outburst, and that URI has seven games left (six regular season plus one tournament game), Ish needs to average about 8.9 PPG in the remaining ones to "clinch" the top scorer mark. Seems pretty likely.

You have to think Weston is going to be the biggest beneficiary of playing time/position. I'd expect to see a lot of Carey/Ish/Weston as your top 3.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑1 year ago I think the player who will see their scoring average with a little bump up will be Tchikou or Samb, whichever one of them is playing. At least I hope. Because if it's Bassy/Ish/Carey we're screwed.

If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

Re: 2022-23 Prediction Contest Summary
With the loss to UMass, the best possible record for URI to achieve in the regular season is 12-18 which means that the overall contest winner will emerge from the four bettors in the 13-18 cluster - adam914, rhodylocal, SGreenwell, spookydog. The final conference record will determine which of the four wins.

Re: 2022-23 Prediction Contest Summary
So if we win 4 in a row, Adam wins. If we go 3-1 it's a tossup between Rhody Local and Steve. Else Spooky is winning. I'm putting my money on Spooky.

Re: 2022-23 Prediction Contest Summary
I really thought we were going to figure some things out come conference play with that 8-10 prediction. Of course I also thought Weston would be our leading scorer!

Re: 2022-23 Prediction Contest Summary
You got that right. In the case of rhodylocal and Steve, it is not really a tossup since Team Scoring will determine the winner between those two and rhodylocal currently has a solid lead on that factor.theblueram wrote: ↑1 year ago So if we win 4 in a row, Adam wins. With the 74-71 loss to Fordham, the URI record is 8-20, 4-12 and no matter what happens in the final two games, spookydog is the declared winner of the 2022-23 Prediction Contest!
Congratulations spookydog!

Can you predict like a 28-2 record next year? Just in case you have some powers we aren't aware of.

How many years have we done this contest?
Has the team ever had a worse record than every single poster predicted?

Re: 2022-23 Prediction Contest Summary
This was the 14th year for the contest.
Actually, spookydog is a back-to-back winner having predicted the worst record in the last two seasons. In the 2021-22 season he predicted the exact regular season record of 15-16. This season he predicted the worst record again, this time, 13-18, which is the closest to the final record which will be either 9-21 or 10-20.
The only other worst record winner occurred in the 2015-16 season when ramfan85 won with a prediction of 20-11 and the actual record was 17-14.

Re: 2022-23 Prediction Contest Summary
Yeah, I suppose it is a little odd there wasn't a contrarian. Then again, we had gone 23-10 the year before, EC was getting NBA talk, and the rest of the young core of Martin, Terrell, and Garret were all a year older and we added a 3 point sharpshooter. That 2015-16 team was loaded for bear until EC tore his ACL.
I actually think that 2015-16 year was an underrated coaching job by Hurley. To be better than .500 with no EC and the amount of other injuries we had was impressive. I think as a fanbase we were so overdue to make a tournament and jaded by where the program was that we didn't truly appreciate how good he was that season

That run of injuries, in that particular time coming off the NIT when the NCAA tournament seemed the logical next step, was brutal. 1999 was there just looming over everything.RhowdyRam02 wrote: ↑1 year ago Yeah, I suppose it is a little odd there wasn't a contrarian. EC’s knee, Kuran’s concussion, Hassan’s knee, Jarvis’s basically everything face and head related. When asked about his former players, Dan always goes to Jarvis as the toughest and most impressive guy he’s been fortunate enough to coach. The way he handled everything- his injuries and illness, becoming a dad to twins in college, losing his starting job- and stayed being a great teammate and person… gotta love and appreciate Jarvis!
