Tammi Reiss Named ESPN Coach of the Week

Unread post by Mongo »

I am the biggest Tammi Reiss fan and I am so happy she is getting the positive publicity she soooooo deserves. I am waiting for a national ranking next, but I believe this just the beginning of the Lady Rams national coverage. Coach Reiss is doing an UNBELIEVABLE job!!!! Thank you coach.

Coach of the Week: Tammi Reiss, Rhode Island Rams
Reiss had the opportunity to move after last season's 22-7 record. Many thought she might want a chance to go to Virginia, where she and South Carolina coach Dawn Staley were in the same backcourt from 1988-89 through 1991-92. But Reiss said she wanted to keep building the program at Rhode Island.

The success has continued into this season, with the 19-3 Rams leading the Atlantic 10 at 10-0. They've won 10 in a row, including victories this past week over Saint Joseph's (in double overtime) and Davidson. This week, the Rams take on George Washington on Wednesday and VCU on Sunday (noon ET, ESPNU/ESPN App). On Feb. 16, Rhode Island has a rematch with 19-4 UMass, which is second in the A-10 at 9-1. The Rams won their first meeting 75-68 on Jan. 4.

Reiss, the A-10 Coach of the Year in 2020-21, is 65-34 in her fourth season at Rhode Island.

I posted this elsewhere but it makes sense to add it here.

The mark of a great coach are the improvements of returning players and successful transfers. This season Tammi has knocked it out of the park:

- Maya Toure: 14.0 vs. 1.8
- Sophie Phillips: 8.1 vs 1.0
- Emmi Rinat: 5.3 vs. 2.7

27.4 points more than last season.

Grad transfers:

MHC: 10.2 ppg/5.0 reb/34.2% 3P
- Say Lassiter: 7.5 ppg/5.1 apg/35.5% 3p
- Emma Squires: 7.6 ppg/32.4% 3p

25.3 points more than last season.

The development of Maye Toure is amazing. From barely seeing the floor her first 2 years to becoming a star player in her junior year.

It's almost like with good coaching and skill development seldom used FR can develop into impact players over time. Imagine that.

Virginia did. She wants to be here.

She loves Thorr. She loves the support. She’s building something no one else has.

And as far as womens coaches go, $425k is decent - and this is before she’s really won and brought in NCAA money and eyeballs. They will keep paying her, she’ll deserve a statue here if she stays.

I hope you're right. Just curious, what do the top women's coaches in the country make?

Congratulations Coach Reiss and our WBB team!

I cannot say I have ever watched a game, but I will certainly check them out now. Keep up the good work and keep kicking ass.

I don’t believe the women’s teams get any money for NCAA appearances. At least not yet.
