Getting desperate to put bodies in seats.

If they really want large numbers in the seats this season, the only gimmick that will work would be to pay people to attend (and that is not happening). The school competing against its own season ticket holders in attempting to give away tickets will not work. The casual fan is not going to come out to the remaining games to see such a bad product. Trying to fill seats this year is a lost cause just as this is a lost season on the court.

There is no marketing campaign that will change attendance dynamics this year. URI would be better served to reassign its athletics marketing staff to other efforts. Have them assist the school's general fundraising programs. The odds for success would be better there.

I do not think the return of students to campus will change things. I think nearly every remaining weeknight game is going to have very small numbers. The announced attendance will be in the mid to upper 3k range with likely less bodies in the building. Weekend games will see slightly better numbers (low to mid 4k) as the mini plans include some of these contests and families in the South County area are more likely on those days.

On the plus side, the women are getting their best crowds ever at the Ryan Center with people actually enjoying the games and leaving happy instead of just more frustrated and depressed.
