I noticed he changed his avatar color to gray, and now to more of a navy blue.

Makes sense, it seems to be covering all D1 schools in the state now, rather than just Rhody.

Yeah we should never talk about anything except right now in the program. Only present off season October talk.

Dan Hurley? Who’s that? Jim Baron? Nope! Not up in here!

Jerry D? Never heard of him. Harrick? Don’t you dare. Skinner!? Absolutely not. Penders!?!? Not on my watch.

Can’t believe anyone would have the balls to bring up past coaches in a thread about past players. For shame!
Haha. Regarding Cox, it’s a broken record.

My friends, are wearing thin
They're tired of hearing your name
It ain't a healthy thing, this obsession that I'm living
So baby please, rescue me
I ain't never had nothing stuck in my head
I guess I'm having I keep hearing
I'm a broke record, a broke record.
You've got my heart-heart skip-skip-skipping a beat
From the needle through my ahead, hit repeat
I'm a broke record, a broke record.
You're a song I gotta sing along with the men
When it gets to the end I gotta play it again and again
Like a yo-yo-yo-yo babe is what I feel like
Up and down, driving me crazy
Keep yank-yank-yanking my string-string baby baby
Don't stop, don't stop
I'm a broke record, a broke record.

I don’t get what you expect. This is a message board for die-hard Rhody fans, and we went from bids, championships, and a red-hot program to back-to-back 10th-place finishes in a weak conference. Many people that love this program will have a tough time getting over the constant disappointment from the last few years. It’s the same reason Baron and Jerry D are still brought up a lot. Especially when it’s October, and we haven’t played a game yet.

Is it all Cox's fault? Nope. But if we were landing bids and staying at the top of the conference, guess who would be getting all the credit? Cox. That’s life as a head coach at a D1 program.

I also didn’t bring Cox up out of the blue to take a gratuitous shot at him. It was germane to the discussion.

The head coach is germane to every discussion about his/her program. No need to defend your post.

Jeff Dowtin playing against the Celtics at the moment. Thus far 5 minutes of play and 4 points. He looks sharp and even the announcers on NESN are saying he seems to be the kind of guy that shows up in big moments.

Status quo.

Has the same two way he previously signed.

He can play X amount of NBA games (didn’t look up the exact number) and the rest need to be in the G League.

Two-Way contract; can play in 50 regular season games, no play-off eligibility.

Nothing says they can't renegotiate that contract. The Raptors are awful thin at the PG spot - one injury and he's seeing significant minutes.

That said - 2 way deals are half the rookie minimum. So JD is making just over $500k this year. Pretty solid. Go Jeff Go!

Yes Blue Man he can earn a full roster spot if they create an opening for him.
Then of course he would be play-off eligible..

Actually the Raptors would seem to be a good landing spot for him.

Tyrese Martin has exceeded my expectations by becoming a second round pick and receiving a two year contract with Atlanta. I read recently that he will begin the season playing mostly in the NBA G league. The Hawks are deep in Guards.

Cool. Some people root for any player they put time and energy into supporting. To each their own.

That’s a strange thing to say since he didn’t even play for Dan until he was a junior. Rese, Dana, and Jermaine were all in on Cox. It just didn’t work out.

Jeff’s pro career so far mimics the way he plays the game- there’s no rushing it or panic or doubt, just confidence in himself and his abilities and quiet, hard work.

1) I'm just as shocked but more so because it feels like "big brother" is watching

2) Remember that Cal has all of these things and still started beef with his AD and football coach looking for more funding so they will be separating themselves from us even further (which is why comparing ourselves to UK is a fool's errand). UK's practice facility was opened 15 years ago and we're hoping for next year.

I suppose that tool is useful for UK and Cal to track whether players are actually practicing or not, but I kind of wonder how useful it is beyond that. UK drastically improved from 2020-21 to 2021-22 because they replaced players, not because players on the roster got radically better. They had eight holdovers from that year to last year - One improved substantially (Toppin), one maintained production despite doubling their minutes which is very good (Brooks), and one got better but was barely in the rotation (Lance Ware). The other five either regressed or didn't progress enough year-to-year to earn playing time.

YR - Player - Minutes Played - PER
2021 Brennan Canada 3 -20.6

Wonder if they thought of putting facial recognition technology in the classrooms to make sure his student-athletes show up to class.

At Louisville under Pitino, they had this technology at the local strip club to keep track of the players and coaches.

There was a write-up in today's ProJo on Bryant Univ's men's basketball team and Antwan Walker was never mentioned. Most here (myself included) thought he would be a star there. Am I missing something about his playing status or did we grossly over-rate Antwan?

Walker will be starting and playing a major role on this team.
Bryant is thin in the frontcourt and Twan is their best big.

Pride and Timberlake will be the stars on this team.
Add in transfers Sherif, Hawkins, and Edert thus giving Bryant plenty of firepower.

They should immediately compete with Vermont for top honors in the conference.

Just because we finally started running in the race doesn't mean the other schools stopped to let us catch up.

Though that's a sentence I never thought I'd read.

Jared's game looked so smooth in those highlights. He had a serious shot at staying in the league, it sucks it didn't work out a little differently.

But Jared "crawled", so Jeff could "walk", and we will see which next Rhody player will "run" (this was a really bad attempt at linking current players to our recent past, but I typed it out and I am not deleting it now)

Commit, de-commit, commit, attending 3 or more schools. Omar, with his soon to be 4th school has overtaken Billy Baron's college basketball odyssey.

Billy Baron
Commit to URI
Decommit URI
Commit to Virginia
Attend and play for Virginia
Transfer and attend/play for URI
Transfer and attend/play for Canisius

The kids of today are certainly getting a lot of travel and school experience. Not so much emphasis it seems for academics, continuity, and loyalty.

He had signed with Santa Clara before coming to URI. A few people on his recruiting thread had some thoughts about his de-commitment, until it was learned he was coming to Rhody.

Commit, de-commit, commit, attending 3 or more schools. Omar, with his soon to be 4th school has overtaken Billy Baron's college basketball odyssey.

Billy Baron
Commit to URI
Decommit URI
Commit to Virginia
Attend and play for Virginia
Transfer and attend/play for URI
Transfer and attend/play for Canisius

The kids of today are certainly getting a lot of travel and school experience. Not so much emphasis it seems for academics, continuity, and loyalty.
So are you blaming the kids?

or the system that has been changed significantly with NIL, no sit out for transferring?

Manhattan fires their Head Coach with two weeks to go for the Season to start yet it sounds like you are blaming/criticizing Omar for now looking for a new home.

What a pathetic, pathetic post this is.

The overwhelming majority of us here would have done the same thing if we were in his shoes.

Omar got his degree in May 2022. He went to Manhattan as a graduate transfer, and it seems pretty unreasonable to expect him to stay when the coach that recruited him leaves. He also left URI because he wasn't playing that much, and it's not like he had a rep as some malcontent when he was here. Sometimes, people just get unlucky.

Heard a stat today that was mind boggling, going into tonight’s games KD had the worst plus minus in the entire NBA !!

Early season NBA small sample size fever, catch it! :D The Utah Jazz's early season run reminds me of when the Cavs, IIRC, went 2-0 the year after they lost Lebron. (I think they ended up with the #1 pick both years.)
