Re: Practice Facility
I have available room in my backyard. More than enough room for a temporary practice facility and I won’t charge any rent…as long as I get a free pass to all practices.

2 years minimum delay from Covid 19
Happy to see the Practice Facility physical construction in place
Add in the Project Design phase and the contract bidding minus the Vovid years and it has t really been a 4 year delay, but even if it was 4 years who cares.

Don't you have a hoop in your driveway for your free throw shooting classes?

I actually heard both teams will just not be practicing at all until the project is completed.

WBB is practicing this week in the Ryan Center
Tahane just stopped by and visited the team practice 2 days ago
Tammi just held a camp that the 3 freshmen committed for the recruiting Class of 2023 attended - they will be HS Seniors this year. WBB uses Mackal for camps too.

I don’t know about recently but Boon Street would have some high quality pickup games.

Is the plan to have no non-basketball events scheduled for the Ryan Ctr for the duration of basketball season? Is paying for the use of the RC for practices the reason for the high cost of the renovation? What did Covid have to do with the delay in putting the renovation out to bid? ( My hoop is booked solid for the season for lessons!)

Doesn’t matter. There are so few non-basketball events at the Ryan Center it’s irrelevant.
Is paying for the use of the RC for practices the reason for the high cost of the renovation? No.
What did Covid have to do with the delay in putting the renovation out to bid? Spending was put on hold. ( My hoop is booked solid for the season for lessons!)

Speaking about that court, it only has 1 hoop. The other side is just the backboard lol.RhodyKyle wrote: ↑1 year agoThey are going to practice hereRhody72 wrote: ↑1 year ago Is the plan to have no non-basketball events scheduled for the Ryan Ctr for the duration of basketball season? Re: Practice Facility
Is the management and operations of the RC still out-sourced? If so, why do we practice there for free?

Hey, Mello had sweet forearm push off.
Used it extensively one time in a spur of the moment 1 on 1 game in Mackel. I forgot I was just suppose to stand there and not play defense... .

I once was a pick up game captain at Mackel and tried to cut a kid so Stevie Mejia could join. Didn’t go over well.

Thanks for posting, 78. Things are really coming along. I am proud for the university and the program.
Hopefully, Rhody will have an open house when the facility work is all done. My health limits my ability to get out but I hope you all get to see it and share pics. I sincerely appreciate when you all do that.

I would assume that next years season ticket holder event will allow a walk through of the facility.Jdrums#3 wrote: ↑1 year ago Thanks for posting, 78. Things are really coming along. I am proud for the university and the program.

Picture I took recently of the hallway outside Tootell West
Right wall is the pool. Left wall is Tootell West
End of Hall on left is Rowing Office, take a right at end of pictured hall leads to Rowing Fitness Room on left
Work is going on in Tootell West gym as well

This journalist seems to contradict themself in the article:
The new practice facility will be located within the Mackal Fieldhouse.
This new practice facility is rumored to be done by next summer, and is located in the old Tootell gym for the athletes’ convenience.

Months ago it was said it would be done by the summer, now they are "hoping" it'll be done by summer.

Re: Practice Facility
I don’t recall reading or hearing that it would definitely be done by summer. Never saw a precise date.
From what I’ve seen things are moving along. Don’t really need to worry about weather delays because most all work is inside.
The word “hope” is coming straight from Thorr.
It’s an exiting project and wonderful that’s it’s physically moving ahead.
This new practice facility is rumored to be done by next summer, and is located in the old Tootell gym for the athletes’ convenience.
URI Athletic Director Thorr Bjorn said that he was excited about the new practice facility and being able to give both basketball teams a specialized space for themselves.
“We hope to be in it by next summer,” Bjorn said. “That’ll be a total renovation of West Gym, it’ll be a men’s and women’s basketball only practice facility. All four buildings are connected and so coming out of the locker room for the men’s and women’s program is an easy walk right here, so it’s the access which is important.”
Bjorn also said that the redesign and addition of the new court will have a large impact on the school as a whole going forward.

Lol sometimes the bitching here really is an artform.
The project is funded. It's physically being built in potentially the hardest and most expensive time in history to undertake a construction project.
Coming from where we historically have been as a program - is the lack of a precise date really bothering you that much?
There's no theory anymore, it's factually underway. I think you'll be fine whether it's "summer" or "fall" of next year. And if I remember correctly the original timeline was "before the 2023-2024 season."
