Coach Goldstein's hire was ranked third in the list of Head Coaching Hires of the 2021 Offseason by Extra Innings Softball. The text of her writeup is below:

3. Whitney Goldstein, Rhode Island
Don Zimmer's granddaughter got the coaching gene passed down to her, and she took it and ran with it. Goldstein had a majorly-successful eight year run as had coach at WPI, leading that program to four conference titles and three NCAA regional appearances during her tenure. She set the program's single-season wins record, then broke it again and then a second time, and won more than 70% of her games there. Rhode Island had begun to take steps in the right direction, but Goldstein's arrival certainly accelerated that timeline and immediately makes the Rams a team to keep an eye on in the A10.

Hopefully this new coaching staff will take the program in a positive direction. The season starts for the Rams on February 11th with three straight tournaments, one in North Carolina and two in Florida.

Rhody Softball kicks off their season Friday at 11am against Colgate in Boiling Springs North Carolina followed by:
Friday 5pm vs Gardner-Webb
Saturday 3pm vs Gardner Webb
Saturday 5pm vs Youngstown State
Sunday 9am vs Colgate

URI is picked to finish 8th out of 9 A10 Teams in preseason Coaches Poll. Wouldn't be surprised to see our new Head Coach take this team to a higher than expected finish.

Things not going well: 5-22 overall and 1-10 in conference. Not many close games, either. From checking the results, the team has struggled to score, to put it mildly.

Softball is looking to raise $50,000, primarily to improve the field's backstop and batting cages. Someone has already donated up to $50,000 towards this as part of a matching campaign
