You juicing? Seems like you're regaining your form. This was funny - you just leaned right into the joke.

Enjoyed the food, shaidzon and coach speak. Fun fact which I'm sure has been shared, but after listening to coach reiss checked Wikipedia and found out she was an actress in late 90's early 2000's for All who had no idea like me. Liked Archie. Will be interesting to see how he fills the rest of rosters he appears to want 4 year players if possible.

They had new artist renderings of the practice facility on display last night, I should have taken pictures of them. Some nice new decorations for it it looked like. Also they had an artist rendering of the new court we'll have for the coming season. It looks very similar to what we have now, with a traditional looking court and the interlocking RI at center court, but the new ram head logo will be under each basket. Hopefully now that they displayed those to the season ticket holders they'll put them online for everyone.

Spoke with Don Kaull and it sounds like his return to the radio booth will be health dependent. Also sounded like if he does return it will be more of a Dennis Eckersley style schedule where he'll mostly call the home games, so the road radio broadcasts might be sounding different going forward

Yeah, Don told me that his doctor doesn't want him to travel so he won't be doing any away games and he might do a couple of home games. Don is a great guy. I suggested to Rhody Vault that he interview Don because I think he's seen more Rhody basketball than anyone alive, and he has some funny stories.

Agree with you about that. I feel we really need to emphasize those connections with the state whenever possible but the athletic department feels differently

Archie seems to want two main things out of all our guys. First, get in the best shape of their lives and improve their shooting.

I said it a few months ago, and I'll say it now. I believe that Bassy will be a part of the rotation and will make an impact. If he gets stronger and improves his shot, he already does many things well.

Who needs a Femi if you have an improved Carey? Maybe our need for an athletic, strong guard who can defend and hit the 3 is already on our roster. Let's not forget that Carey shot the ball well last year. If he's drastically improving his shot the way Archie said he has, he could thrive in Archie's system. And before you ask what Archie's system is again, Playmike, he's explained countless times, including last night.

Samb can shoot? That's fun! I'll need to see him in person, but maybe Samb can make a more significant impact than we thought.

Hutch has a ton of upside, but he won't be making an impact next season.

Foumena is a high major get. He has the potential to be our next Hass based on what was said to me.

Malik is our leader. So happy he's coming back.

Ish is banged up, which is too bad. However, Archie wants to get him healthy before really working on his game. I love that he wants Ish to be an all conference defender, which I know he can be

My biggest takeaway from last night is patience. Archie wants us to have some slots left in June/July. He knows we need to get some impact players now, But he knows that as rosters fill around the country, he will have the ability to offer playing time to guys that can make an immediate impact.. He also wants to take advantage of landing four-year players who would have gone to high majors like Josh Hutch and Foumena.

I haven't been so excited being in the Ryan Center since we beat PC at home.

It will be interesting to see how they handle not having Don on the road radio calls. Do they have Shane handle the duties as part of being Sports Information Director? Do they have Stone handle it to keep grooming him as the long term replacement for Steve? With more games available to call does this somehow become a more viable option for Chris DiSano? Do they find former players or coaches that live in the areas around our road games to handle the duties when the team is local to where they live? Do they find a former player or coach they want to be the next Don Kaull and have them handle all road games to groom them for being the long term replacement for Don? Some combination of all of those?

Last year, it was mostly Stone and Shane for the road games. For the home games, Steve with either Chris or Tim O'shea.

This made me go back to the concept drawing of the court and there is only one three point line and one restricted arc shown, that can't be accurate.

Really the only two ways I can imagine you could have only the men's three point line and restricted arc show up during a men's game would be to either:

1. Have completely different courts for men and women, which isn't realistic or
2. Have two different sets of panels covering the lane and three point areas which is slightly more realistic but kind of insane for the minor inconvenience of fans having to deal with two sets of lines

The two sets of lines nuisance factor cannot and should not be overestimated. I hate it. It only takes a couple hours, replace the appropriate panels.

Phenomenal event. Had to leave before the interviews because someone decided to eat pizza while running around with Rhody and puked all over dad.

But he's cute and was fine - but hey, part of the deal. It gave Stone Freeman an up-close look at why you want to wait to have kids.

Coach Woodward is as advertised - incredibly likable, very professional. Said his brother was looking forward to coming back to campus now with Duane there.

One interesting thing I learned about replays during the tour with in the production room - it actually would take an in-house person and separate terminal that we don't necessarily have space for. They can't use the feed from TV because of a licensing issue, so at least that makes sense.

So it would take a very generous communications donor to add to the operating budget for a replay-production specialist and a new terminal if we wanted that to happen.

This drawing shown is accurate. The women's and men's 3 point and charge lines are the same and started that way in the 2021-22 season. The old women's line was just obviously left on our court but not in use. See NCAA court link below and note in the top right corner.

Interesting. I wonder what it would cost all in to get replays done? That seems like the kind of campaign you could do with small time donors, but what do I know

I’d prefer he hire the best person for the job period. Whatever he thinks is best to move this program out of the bottom 3rd of the conference asap. Bring 10th and 11th in a conference known for a weak bottom 3rd is not good at all.

When I was listening to Archie talk to me and other people last night, he kept stressing one thing....shooting, shooting, shooting. Wouldn't
Jimmy Baron be the perfect guy for this position if Archie wants someone to help develop shooters?

IMO Jimmy Baron would be a phenomenal hire in a player development role. Even if he didn’t play at URI his resume for that type of position is impeccable.

No, Jim Sr taught him. I'm what 3M does to products of others.

Jim Sr worked a lot with both Jimmy and Billy. Both fundamentally sound, worked hard at their games and especially their shooting.

I found Archie’s comments about Louis Hutchinson interesting at the STH Q&A.
He said Louis was going a prep year then College in 2023.
Rhody staff talked to him about playing at URI in 2022 instead where he could develop with the URI team at a D1 level. Good for Louis, good for URI.
Archie said if Louis went to prep and classified in Class of 2023 he would land at a level like Mississippi State or Kansas State.
Loved hearing the logic and understanding this Coaching staff has for recruiting a player like Louis.

I got to chat with Shane for about 15 minutes. He’s a great guy and I love his calls with Stone when they’re on the road.
Very good news that Don is doing well.

I still think that Jim Norman should have a banner in the RC.

One more suggestion for the folks in athletics, speaking of the banners…
They ought to move many of them and make them visible to everyone in the arena. The way they’re situated now, most of them are jammed up behind the ventilation pipes. How about lowering them 5 feet, or putting them all parallel to the backboards if lowering them would disrupt the sightlines?

Great to see everyone, and sorry I missed Blue Man!

That was the rumor. Replays can certainly make officials look bad in certain situations, so I would assume that's the reason?

Of course, in todayspeak you have to also consider...he could very well still "land at a level like...in 2023.". ;)

It's going to be interesting to see how Archie's strategy plays out long term. In theory it's great to try and build a team through 4 year players that can develop at URI, but with the transferring as prevalent as it is now it could be another school benefitting from that development. To be clear I am not making any predictions one way or another, I just think it'll be fascinating to watch play out over the years.

I agree with this. Not sure it is the best approach (not sure it is not either) but will be interesting to see how it plays out. The focus on the transfer portal may lead to a higher level of freshman being available for a school like Rhode Island, but it only works if they don't bolt at the first opportunity to play at a bigger school. Let's hope Miller is successful doing it this way, but this does fly in the face of what is going at most schools right now.

I'm a little concerned about this too. He talked about building a program where the players will stay for 4 years, the veteran players play and the younger (freshmen) sit and learn from the veteran players, then the younger players become the veteran players and so on. That's old school and was a great way to build continuity in a program. I'm not sure that can work anymore with the portal and NIL. We'll see. Players have to have a reason to want to stay. I'm sure he has a plan on how to do this. I hope he's right.

Time will tell if Archie's approach will be successful.

Obviously Frank Martin's feeling is a little different and looking for an immediate fix through the portal.

I still feel in our case Archie will bring in a few veterans from the portal to fill out the roster.
But going forward that is probably not his primary focus.
