Frank Martin's contract at UMass looks to be very similar to that of URI with Archie Miller:

5 years for $8.5M
$1.7M annual average - base of $1M

Nice to know people still blame refs (even years later) and refuse to admit that a better team won. Right, it was the refs' fault...just like every tough, close loss.

Did you see the horrible offensive foul in ec Matthews in that game? Definitely a turning point

I did. I also saw a bunch of other plays too in the game not involving a refs' call. So you can play the woulda/should/coulda game all you want. And I'm not harping on it years later. Move on, better team won that night.

I completely disagree. 2 evenly matched and equal teams played each other that night. Each had a key player injured. One team had a pivotal call go against them late in a key situation. You can sugar coat it all you want. You probably also think Mobley wasn’t purposely being fouled late in that Stanford game when everyone watching except the refs knew he was being fouled for free throws. Or if that’s not a foul then ARD shouldn’t be called for a foul on the ensuing dunk.

Instead of blaming the refs, how about we blame the consecutive offensive rebounds to gave up to Oregon with two minutes left when we were winning by three (which was before the charge), or the Terrell turnover with 1 minute left when the game was tied.

Or maybe all can be true and are not mutually exclusive items?

God that was garbage against Stanford. At the risk of derailing this thread (I apologize I just can't help myself) those were unbelievable calls on both ends.

Keep an eye on the basketball head coach and Athletic Director positions at America East member Albany. There are many rumors circulating about Dwayne Killings doing something inappropriate with the AD then trying to sweep it under the rug. It however has now gone public.

I don't think Langel was ever even interested in LaSalle. No coach there has gone on to a better position since Paul Westhead in 1979. Coaching careers die at that place.

There are a lot of retreads being mentioned on the LaSalle forum. One has Dunphy taking the job with possibly Gallagher (Hartford Head Coach) also coming on board the staff as the coach in waiting. Other names being mentioned include Phil Martelli Sr, Bruiser Flint, and Matt Brady.

UMass announced their new coach Frank Martin today at a press conference in Amherst. He has now made it further than Pat Kelsey.

No UMass president, chancellor, or MA governor in attendance at the event.

No P5 or BE jobs appear to be currently open. The two A-10 openings at GW and LaSalle might be the best still to be filled.

Hobbs had success at GW.

Three straight trips to the tournament, a win, and a couple A10 regular season titles.

Hobbs had a good 4 years stretch at GW in the mid 2000s:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Hobb ... Washington

1 NIT and 3 NCAAs, not much after that. His last year at GW was the best since going to the NCAAs 4 years earlier, going 17-14 and 11-5, but not good enough and was let go.

Paulsen, was pretty much meh at GMU, but did much better at Bucknell before that. with 4 first place and a second place finish in the conference and 2 NCAAs and 2 NITs, though only one win in the 2012 NIT first round.

Karl Hobbs rumors to LaSalle seem to be gaining strength.

Hobbs had early success at GW (2001-11) taking the Colonials to three consecutive NCAA tournaments in his first six years. His later years were however not very successful with no NCAA or NIT appearances his last four seasons. His ten year career record at GW was 166-129 but just 52-64 in those final four years.

Some attribute the later decline under Hobbs to forced changes to his recruiting. He got several players from sham basketball factory schools early on which the Washington Post later exposed in 2006. This was bad press for a school that portrayed itself as having very high academic standards. Hobbs was eventually no longer able to go after these players and get them accepted to GW.

He has been an assistant coach for the last ten years at UConn and Rutgers after being fired by GW in 2011.

Hobbs defends Williams, blasts Post story and hints at maliciousness
