Great finish.
Bonnie’s knock off Virginia 52-51. Lofton with 2 big FTs with 5 seconds to go. Then Osun Osunniyi with a block to end the game.

3rd straight road win over 3 P5 Teams

They said Lofton has been the Team Captain for 4 straight years and he was picked Captain his freshman year before he even played one game. Never heard that - impressive.

I love it. Great for the A10. Bad for UMass. Makes them look even more incompetent with this whole search.

And they’ll get a good coach - but certainly not a “splash” like their “big time” statement said they were going to get.

Sad!

Yes Reef. I was really rooting for Lofton to hit at least the 1st FT. If he had missed that one imagine the pressure on the 2nd? and he is an 81% FT Shooter.

Then Osunniyi with the blocked shot - how fitting for Lofton to hit the FTs and Osunniyi to finish it off with the blocked shot

Bonnies will play the winner of Xavier - Vanderbilt in MSG in the Semi-Finals. Bonnies will have a ton of fans in the Garden.

4 of Bonnie’s starters played all 40 minutes. Only Osunniyi played less with 28 minutes as he had 4 fouls.

Yes that was a great block by OO to seal the game

So the 2 veteran teams in the A10 put things together in the postseason, Richmond to win the auto bid and a game in the dance and Bonnie’s to the NIT final 4

Speaks to the age and experience factors. All Players getting 5 years for the Covid year plus ability to transfer with no sit-out penalty has made older, experienced teams more successful. Portal-Palooza.

Setting up an interested semifinal, where as much attention will be on the coaching chairs as on the floor.

X - New coach waiting in the wings
St. B - Current coach rumored to be moving on,

Meanwhile, they both just keep winning. Kudos to the players for maintaining their focus!

Except they have a real coach and we had CFL. Makes you wonder what that roster could have done with someone like Schmidt.

I think Schmidt is a really good coach. But I also think its a major blemish on his record that he didn't get this Bonnie team in the tourney.

I know it doesn't quite help the tv ratings, but I'd prefer the games started at 1 and be one at a time:

1pm, 3:30, 7pm and 9:30

The drawback (other than less fans watching in stadium and on tv) is if a game is a blowout, then no other game to switch to.

Agree with why you said not to change it, and those reasons outweighing the first part by a hundred miles.

I didn’t expect that. I would have bet Gonzaga to win that game. Good thing I don’t bet!

Was watching the Michigan - Villanova game. Michigan missed a lot of easy buckets at the rim. Gillespie with the dagger 3 late in the game. Villanova has some mojo working. I didn’t think so, but they could win it all. They have a clutch player in Gillespie, they are excellent from the line and their bigs are tough/bangers. If they play Arizona next, assuming Arizona gets by Houston, it should be a really good game.

Don't read the following Boston Globe headline on a full stomach:

Providence College men’s basketball team has captivated — and lifted — the entire state

Some may say the Friars are an overperforming underdog. But making it to the Sweet 16 took more than luck: Along with all of the hard work, the Friars have rallied the support of the entire state of Rhode Island.

How does Houston NET 3 get a 5-seed? They could run the table

1-Seeds:

If URI were in the Sweet 16 playing Kansas tonight how many 247 Friar Board posters would be rooting for URI for the benefit of State of Rhode island Basketball? I’d say fewer than the number of posters on KB who will be rooting for PC tonight.

I could never do it.

You claim to hate PC, yet are cheering for them.

Eyes would be on PC in Rhode Island, and not us at all. After this season, eyes would definitely not shift back to us and away from PC. No chance in hell.

Pretty wild you yell at others they should hate PC cus it’s a rivalry, that’s what makes it great, etc etc, then go and cheer for them to make a serious run.

Ok fine Rock Chalk Jayhawk

15 in the long term the better PC is the more impressive it is to beat them, no? Like nothing matters until we beat them and get back to Madness and if they are also a good program during that same time and RI cbb is the talk of national media that would be a good thing. Rising tide all boats thing. But in short term yes you are right them losing to just end the noise would be nice.

They actually made the Sweet 16, can't make the joke about failing in March anymore. I won't root for Kansas.

Good to have the eyes of the college basketball world on Rhode Island. Will be even better to beat them next year and start shifting their eyes back towards us.

Do you ever read my posts? Outside of last year when they ducked us I’ve always held true to this. Outside of one game a year I tend to root for PC. I think it makes us better.

My whole family grew up on PC basketball. They all went there - except my dad, mom, brother, and me.

They live and die with the Friars like I do URI.

I didn’t grow up in the 70s, and while I agree their Twitter fans are the WORST - I know a lot more reasonable PC fans in real life.

So I’m not going to just hate them when they’re doing something legit. I wish it was us. Someday some with this coach and these commitments it will be us.

Obviously I’m in the minority- but just like a small segment of their fans - they’d be happy for us. I’m talking about a small circle. I get it. It’s a rivalry. I’m not even saying I’m “right” from a fan perspective.

But dude, since you’re policing the message board - outside of last year when they ducked us, I’m consistent with this take.

If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

I don’t police the message board, as there’s about 5 straight posts after your initial one saying they all won’t cheer for them to win.

I’m not the only one, but obviously to each is own.

I’d prefer us to be the talk of the state, and them have a done year.

Cooley’s trying really hard to sell this “nobody believed in us, we are shocking the world” vibe, but it sounds silly when Saint Peter’s literally exists.

Yup, part of the reason I can’t stand him. He’s a bit of a troll / hard ass in the media.

They were literally favored in both their games.

They should have won.

No, thats not how it works.

All it does is give the mouth breathing blowhards another thing to brag about for the next 50 years
