Re: 2022 Coaching Carousel
The American has some good programs, but the conference itself is just so incredibly meh. Just Houston and Memphis make the tournament this year. The bottom of the conference is brutal, and it’s just a weird collection of teams. Its conference tournament this year was not well-attended.
Anderson was always a questionable fit for NYC, and he’s getting some heat for the job he did this year. A lot of people seem to think they had the talent to be a tournament team. I like his coaching style, and his teams can play tough.

I feel like Jerome Tang's name comes up on every list. Would like to see him get a job as I've heard good things, but I don't know much about him beyond that.

Re: 2022 Coaching Carousel
Jans was brought up randomly by someone on here, and his coaching record is pretty impressive - won, and won pretty big, at pretty much every place he's been. I don't think he has any connection to this area, but that's the type of lower conference college coach that would catch my eye, if we're playing Fantasy AD here.

Re: 2022 Coaching Carousel
He's pretty plugged into the Juco's in that area. Would potentially be able to flip something quick with juco and transfers. But that would really depend from school to school as far as transfer credits and things like that.SGreenwell wrote: ↑2 years ago Jans was brought up randomly by someone on here, and his coaching record is pretty impressive - won, and won pretty big, at pretty much every place he's been. Wow. Just three years at GW? That’s tough. I wonder if they have someone lined up that made that decision easier?

SG as we discussed before Chris Jans next move will be bigger than us.SGreenwell wrote: ↑2 years ago Jans was brought up randomly by someone on here, and his coaching record is pretty impressive - won, and won pretty big, at pretty much every place he's been. Re: 2022 Coaching Carousel
Huh, interesting, and weird timing too. He had coached three years, and if he was heading into his fourth and final year, maybe there was some back-and-forth about an extension so he wouldn't be a lame duck? GW was bad when he took it over, and bad to middling during his three years, so it isn't like a firing would be unwarranted.

Re: 2022 Coaching Carousel
Not totally unexpected.
Had a nice run at K-State and a Final Four at South Carolina.
I actually thought he was older than 55.

Umass? I believe his wife might be an alum. I'd love him in our conference.

Re: 2022 Coaching Carousel
His record at South Carolina is baffling. Only one tourney in 9 years but made it to a final four. Meanwhile he made the tourney and won at least one game 4 out of 5 years at K State.

He did spend some time early in his career as an assistant at Northeastern.

Actually a bunch of really interesting coaching options out there this year - a lot of guys I think would do well in the A10 level.bigappleram wrote: ↑2 years ago Umass? I believe his wife might be an alum. I'd love him in our conference.

Re: 2022 Coaching Carousel
Coach Martin is the scariest dude since Bob Knight. His years at K State were amazing.

Re: 2022 Coaching Carousel
I remember we lost out on a recruiting battle for Chris Silva when he decided to go play for Frank Martin.
He would have been a great addition. Plays sparingly now for the Heat.

Re: 2022 Coaching Carousel
A bit of a tangent here but John Carrol resigned today after 21 years at Northfield Mt Hermon. Just lost in the prep national championship. He’d be an excellent assistant candidate for a New England program.

Re: 2022 Coaching Carousel
They moved quickly and hired a guy whose season hasn’t ended yet. That works when it’s an assistant, not so much when it’s the head coach.

It's East Carolina. They have been to 2 NCAAT. They have no history in basketball.

I just look at wiki for teams. It says they went to the NCAAT in 72 and 93. No wins. If you have something different I'm all ears.ace wrote: ↑2 years agoWhat?theblueram wrote: ↑2 years agoIt's East Carolina. They have been to 2 NCAAT. They have no history in basketball.

It shows you can hire an assistant now and they can coach for their current team through the NCAA tournamenttheblueram wrote: ↑2 years agoIt's East Carolina. They have been to 2 NCAAT. They have no history in basketball.

Re: 2022 Coaching Carousel
I always thought Martin would be the next guy to go Woody Hayes on a player on the sideline (either team). Have thought it for so long now, I'm starting to be surprised...
You can't really say, hey, thanks for not going totally berserker and punching a player (either team), but you can still be surprised.

Well there was this time in ‘89 with Michigan:Backroads wrote: ↑2 years agoIt shows you can hire an assistant now and they can coach for their current team through the NCAA tournamenttheblueram wrote: ↑2 years agoIt's East Carolina. They have been to 2 NCAAT. They have no history in basketball.
“ Fisher moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1982 and took an assistant coaching job at the University of Michigan after having served as an assistant coach at Western Michigan University since 1979. In 1989, during the final week of the regular season, Michigan head coach Bill Frieder agreed to take the coaching job at Arizona State University beginning the next season. Frieder intended to coach Michigan through the end of the 1989 NCAA tournament. However, when he told athletic director Bo Schembechler of his intentions, Schembechler ordered Frieder to leave immediately and named Fisher as interim head coach. When announcing the promotion of Fisher, Schembechler famously said, "I don't want someone from Arizona State coaching the Michigan team. A Michigan man is going to coach Michigan."[3]”

Imagine leaving Michigan for Arizona State? The 80s were very weird.

This does make a lot of sense . I think a league like the A10 would be fine for Frank Martin

Yeah really quick on Anderson. Just another example of how you have to take what someone on Twitter says fwiw.. Even if they have sources. I had Heard before the Anderson would really prefer getting back to the south. Would any of the SEC openings even consider him?
