Guide to Rhody Radio and Streaming
Puck's Ye Olde Almanac to Rhody Radio and Streaming
Hey all, been thinking about putting this together for awhile but after the various radio issues last night I went ahead. Mods, if you think this is helpful enough to be make a sticky, I will keep the top post updated through the year if/when things change.
Radio (broadcast)
---
Commercial
-
Basketball-
Weeknights/Weekends - B101 101.5 FM in Rhode Island and Southern MA
Weekday (Daytime) - WHJJ 920 AM in Providence and South County / 104.7 FM in Cranston and Warwick / Now (CoastFM) 93.3 FM HD2 in almost all of Southeast New England <The last option requires a special "HD (hybrid digital) radio" receiver>
Football -
WHJJ 920 AM in Providence and South County / 104.7 FM in Cranston and Warwick / Now (CoastFM) 93.3 FM HD2 in almost all of Southeast New England <The last option requires a special "HD (hybrid digital) radio" receiver>
Non-Commercial (Student Broadcasts)
-
Men's & Women's Basketball, Football, Men's Ice Hockey, Baseball -
WRIU 90.3 FM
Streaming (online audio)
---
Commercial
-
Basketball - For the 21-22 season it appears URI has been talked into using Learfield's ridiculously not-ready-for-primetime app "The Varsity Network" (Learfield produces our radio broadcasts). One problem is that it only really works on mobile devices.
The Varsity Network on Appstore (iPhone, iPad)
The Varsity Network on Google Play (Android, Chromebook)
At the moment, there is no streaming option for a desktop (or laptop) computer. Hopefully this is is sorted out for 22-23 but until then if you want to stream free audio, see the second post (below) for links to our opponent's radio streams.
Football - Should be much easier
iHeart Radio - News Radio 920 WHJJ (Any)
iHeart Radio on the Appstore (iPad, iPhone)
iHeart Radio on Google Play (Android, Chromebook)
Non-Commercial (Student Broadcasts)
-
Men's and Women's Basketball (some games), Football, Men's Ice Hockey, Baseball (some games) -
WRIU on TuneIn Radio (browser, iOS or Android)
Direct stream link
Women's Basketball, Men's And Women's Ice Hockey, Men's and Women's Soccer, Baseball, Softball -
RIU2 on TuneIn Radio
Direct Stream Link
TLDR -
Looking for radio?
Try 101.5 FM (B101)
Try 920 AM or 104.7 FM or 93.3 FM HD2 (WHJJ)
Try 90.3 FM (WRIU)
Looking for streaming?
Try The Varsity Network from a phone/tablet
Try WHJJ on iHeart Radio
Try WRIU
Try RIU2
Try the opponent's stream (see below)

Striking out. Varsity Network doesn't have the URI feed and the other thing is carrying music.

Ah right you are Red. They've left the basketball broadcast up on that stream before, unfortunately looks like they've shut it down. Will look for another solution but for now I'd use the Richmond streaming link if you're not in RI, East CT or Southern MA.Rhode_Island_Red wrote: ↑2 years ago Striking out. The Varsity thing worked yesterday, but asking something URI to work two days in a row is a lot.Puck Frovidence wrote: ↑2 years agoAh right you are Red. Re: Guide to Rhody Radio and Streaming
The fact that it worked once is miraculous. Hopefully they will sort it out next year. I can confirm the link in my second post for Richmond's coverage has the game right now. It will work on your computer or on the TuneIn app https://tunein.com/radio/1061-ESPN-1037-s223351/Rhode_Island_Red wrote: ↑2 years agoThe Varsity thing worked yesterday, but asking something URI to work two days in a row is a lot.Puck Frovidence wrote: ↑2 years agoAh right you are Red. Listening to the Richmond feed. The nighttime USA announcers are even worse than the daytimers, though the play-by-player is pretty hot.

Or maybe she's doing color. Either way, I'd rather look at her than our team.section(105) wrote: ↑2 years agoJac?Rhode_Island_Red wrote: ↑2 years ago Listening to the Richmond feed. The nighttime USA announcers are even worse than the daytimers, though the play-by-player is pretty hot.
