He's been mentioned in a good amount of "up and coming" type articles.

And here it comes!

He’s not holier than thou! He should be fired immediately! Give him a show cause for 20 years!

Hahahaha this is too predictable. Pointing out every single coaches flaw in life.
I mean who doesn't have 96 pounds of weed just laying around the house?
Nowadays, not necessary. It's such the commodity now, you just run out to the store and grab some when you need it. It's like stocking up on bread, or eggs. Let 'em keep it fresh there at the store. (This all according to a friend)

He went to prison for a year, it’s hardly a secret. It also seems like forever ago that it happened, given how much he has been through and accomplished since then.

I don’t care someone went to prison. Although we have a lot of Holier than thou types here that probably will. I just can’t f’n believe people on here want to go the assistant coach route again. On top of that the fact that people want to hire another Dan Hurley assistant is absolutely mind boggling. It’s freaking twilight zone stuff. WTF!!!

What is a better job URI or FGCU and why do you think your choice is better?

Head coaching experience is just ONE of the qualities to be evaluated when making a coaching decision. It is not a "must have" characteristic. There are many assistants that become head coaches and are successful right away.

We don't have far to see that Fordham's hire of assistant Kyle Neptune was an excellent choice and it is fair to say that that hiring decision was not in the "twilight zone".

Don’t know what the $ difference is so unfair to me comment on that

Otherwise, unequivocally URI. Better conference and larger stage.

Joe Dooley thought URI, and I'm inclined to agree with him. He was head coach at FGCU and interviewed here to replace Hurley

If that was the case, why isn't every Florida mid major competing for NCAA trips and every P6 program contending for Final Fours every year?

URI is a much much better job than FGCU.

More money, better facilities, better TV deal, can get an at large birth in the A10.

All that is true, but any coach they look at isn’t likely old like me. The question asked what Is my choice and I hate the cold. Lol

Xavier absolutely stinks. Shouldn’t be anywhere near the bubble.

Never made the tourney under Steele.

…also never even finished about .500 in conference!

Unacceptable for Xavier standards.

Travis Steele is 0 for 4 in tourney bids. I can’t imagine Xavier is going to put up with that. They were a #1 or 2 seed the year before he took over.

Travis Steele has been a disappointment.

If Butler moves on I would take a look at Lavall Jordan.
They beat Arkansas in the NCAAT(2018) and only lost to #10 Purdue by 3 in the 2nd round.
In 2020 they probably would have gotten a bid.

Only 42 and was a top recruiter for John Beilein at Michigan.
He also specialized in the development of guards.

If you haven't noticed , it's not the 80s anymore where guys were getting paid $50 thousand. They make considerably more and are paid to produce. This is a big business for many schools, and the coaches are paid that way. High risk, high reward.

I mean the money is irrelevant. Doesn’t change the probability of success

Jim Baron kept his job for 11 years and he was the highest paid RI State employee this century. The pressure to produce has increased even at mid-major colleges. When signing a new coach, expect to fire them or have them move on when successful. You must write a contract with an easy buy-out and generous incentives for success, You must protect the future of your program when there is a coaching change. You can't put your institution in a situation where you can't afford to fire a coach.

As I said before, K-State would be a good landing spot for Turg.
He is from Kansas and coached nearby at Wichita State.
Also was successful in the B12 at Texas A&M.

Gregg Marshall would be another possibility but less likely considering how he left Wichita State.

You may have possibly intended to mean the highest paid at the time but that is not what you wrote. The only interpretation of your written words is that Jim Baron was the highest paid state employee of the 2000's and that is not true.

I hated Martelli but he was a legend. She came in and just said "time to change" and hired whoever. Of course she doesn't want to admit she was wrong and fired a program legend who should have a gym named after him a la Frank Keaney here. So she will ride the Lange train into the dirt.

Phil deserved to go out on his own terms at St Joes.

Martelli was 64 and had gone 20-34 in the A10 in the previous 3 seasons. Maybe he should have been able to go out on his own terms or at least given another season or two to turn things around, but if I'm an AD I'm not sure how comfortable I'd feel with that coaching situation. If he had already lost it and refused to leave, what do you do?
