I actually kind of like an Ocean State jersey as a rarely used alternate. We're the state flagship University for the Ocean State, so it makes sense. The problems with these uniforms are everything after that. Why gray? It's not a school color and it's been overused to death. A far more interesting concept would be to design the uniforms after the state flag. A white uniform with gold lettering and numbers, with gold stars on the sides of the jerseys and shorts with dark blue trim. If you don't want to do that, just stay in school colors but add the state flag/and or the outline of the state to the uniforms. Many state universities have added these elements to their uniforms and I think they really help to give a little individuality to uniforms that have become increasingly sterile.

Another issue, and a few people have brought this up, but we have an obvious branding issue. As best I can tell, since we replaced the first Ryan Center court, there's been nothing surrounding the athletic department that would let you know that we are the Rams. Fine, plenty of universities play up their name and word mark with the mascot taking a backseat. I'm not necessarily a fan, but with such a generic mascot, like a ram, I can see it. However more and more anchors are becoming our logo. First it started off with the football jerseys after they brought an anchor onto the field, then it got incorporated into the baseball uniforms, now it's on the basketball shorts. At least if it was the same anchor found in the University seal or on the state flag you could say it had some kind of place, however it's just some generic, clip art version of an anchor with no roots to the University or state. With no roots and a mascot completely unrelated why do we continue this proliferation of a random anchor? That's poor branding

University of Texas pushes their longhorns mascot and its worked very well. I never see anything about being the lone star school. Alternate jerseys frequently have a 'weird' color. The Orlando Magic's City Edition alternates are mostly orange, for example. There are countless other examples I'm sure. Which is why I'm fine with it / like them as a one-off. I feel like there's only so much you can do with a 2-3 color palate.

Don’t like the new uniform. They look like pajamas to me. Not a fan of the RI logo either. Give me the Lanning Ram dunking a basketball or something for any kind of dominant activity for each sport.

Not to contradict myself too much on the importance of branding, but there's a giant difference between having literally one of the most iconic brands in all of American sports, not just college sports, and being one of three teams in your conference with the nickname Rams. The Longhorns "push their mascot" and don't take chances because they have a classic, iconic look and their fans would revolt if they made any real changes or took chances, rightfully so. We shouldn't be afraid to take some chances, as long as they are within our standard colors or make sense using the University and state imagery as a guide

I don't like the trend. I think it's silly. Young people and fans of the sport seem to like it though. Alternate jerseys have been making their way into college hoops for a few years now. Even the blue bloods are doing it, which makes no sense to me. But again, it's in and young people (and probably players) like it. So I think some people are being are little hard on this new Rhody jersey. It's not a bad idea. Personally I don't like the gray and I think the uniforms should pop more. They seem kind of boring. Not to mention, our colors are great, so use them! However, I did find an SI article from a few years that talked about gray being the new black with sports uniforms. There were a bunch of examples of college hoops teams that were doing it. Anyway, I would take the more traditional Rhody jerseys any day.

Back to basketball. Imagine how excited we would be for the game tonight if we had just beat the lowly GW?

For us "old schoolers," alternate jerseys seem wasteful and ridiculous. I can't stand them, especially when they use colors that have nothing to do with the school. Gray for URI??? Seriously? Gray looks awful for URI...unless you have a baseball uniform.

However, I am willing to accept that this basketball 3rd jersey trend is happening and I can't put the genie back in the bottle. So to most everyone's point...

The whole Ocean State thing is creative. The design is neat. Fine, go with it. I get it. They want to put an anchor on there because it's on the state flag. Makes sense. (Maine should put some lobsters on their 3rd uniform.) But the gray coloring is a disaster!

URI does have a branding issue. Stop screwing around with colors/uniforms/logos/naming, it stinks of small time desperation. If you're trying to come up with some new and shiny every year then it means your product isn't very good. (And at the moment, it's not.) They need to showcase their school colors of Keaney blue and white with including the gold trim...tell the world that they are the Rams...there are no anchors with URI.

That font would be clown shoes for serious University websites and publications to use. I think as long as athletics has a standard font and the rest of the University has another standard font we should be fine. I think it would be too difficult to find one font that works for both sides of the house

It's real easy you make a style guide for the brand.
Some elements like color pallettes, pantones, other key marks like the Ram can always show up consistently across all formats. Then other things like fonts or design elements can be custom to where/how they are used. It's no different for any brand. Agree with ECR though that its critical to land on some consistent assets and then deploy them across the board.

Nothing to lose. Kid has surprised on the upside since committing to URI. Need a spark, leadership, enthusiasm.
I remember when some said Jeff Dowtin wasn’t a point guard his freshman year. Wouldn’t surprise me if Thomas takes the starting position the rest of the year similar to what Dolly Cairns has done on the WBB team and what Jeff did his freshman year.
