Our depth has been one of our greatest assets to date. Most teams go 7 deep tops. We are playing 9 or 10 and finishing games strong. Hopefully, that rings true tomorrow.

For those of us in Rhode Island that have COX Communications for our cable provider, which COX channel is carrying the 1:00pm URI W-BB game today against Long Beach State?

At the moment channel 1139 (ACCN) is showing the “Virginia Tech / Virginia” football game.

I do see from the TV listings Guide that channel 1139 (ACCN) will be broadcasting the “Richmond / Virginia” W-BB game at 4:00pm this afternoon.

But I cannot seem to find the 1:00pm championship game with URI W-BB playing (!).

They lost by 12.

A horrible 3rd quarter outscored 25 to 5 was the difference.

Even UConn had it happen to them against SC.

I'm sure they will adjust and learn from it.

Looks like the team is staggering a bit. Lost by 14 to Buffalo. It appears that turnovers have been the main culprit in the three game losing streak.

URI moved to 9-3 with a 2nd straight win at Orono Maine over the Black Bears in a very difficult 45-44 win

Sophomore Dolly Cairns with a strong performance off the bench in her 31 minutes she took a team high 13 shots, hit a team high 6 and had a team high 14 points. Cairns continues to build her case to enter the starting line up. She is an excellent shooter, good ball handler and passer. She minimizes turnovers.
She is 4th on the team in PPG hitting 46% FG, 39% 3P and 92% FT. 4th now in MPG and getting into the starting lineup could enable WBB to get off to better starts and build team game confidence.

On Post Game Interview Tammi was asked about Dolly Cairns starting and her contributions now. Tammi said that Dolly is the back up for PG Marta Vargas. Tammi said that Marta was the last member of the team to recover from Covid. During that time that Marta was out, Dolly took advantage of the opportunity and ran with it.

Tammi was also very complimentary of Tahane during the interview.

I'm glad Cairns is into the starting line up. Great shooter, solid passer, handles the ball well. Only a sophomore.

UMASS thoughts:

Dolly Cairns with another strong performance: 8-15 FG, 5-12 FT for 21 points plus 3 assists. In her 3rd consecutive start, the Sophomore is playing great
Emmanuelle Tahane solid with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists
Marie-Paul Fappossi strong with 12 points, 8 rebounds
Dez Elmore with 9 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
Channell Williams with 7 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists

Tammi went primarily with 5 players with the 5 starters above playing 38, 38, 32, 38 and 37 minutes respectively. Tammi knew how extremely important this home game vs UMASS was. Players of the bench played with high energy, poise and skill.

Outstanding Effort by all!!

So! I will say that until we have confirmation from the URI side of things, we should be wary that this could be a hoax. But, I was able to find another website that claims she has signed with URI, here. (Google Translate used for that link.) There is also a Tweet about this here:

Keep in mind this is only a commitment, it doesn't say she enrolled this semester.

Signing day starts on April 13.
URI can't make any official announcements on recruits until after they signed.

However, this is very nice to see, we can use another big for next season.
Tammi and her staff certainly do an excellent job of recruiting from all over the globe.

Just a quick note of appreciation for this squad: last night's victory at Duquesne (NET 182) won't go down anywhere as a "quality win," but we shouldn't underestimate what a tough feat it was to go on the road and take down a better-rested opponent just 2 days after a grueling battle with UMass. Duquesne clearly had a plan and the ability to mark our strongest shooter out of the contest (just three FG attempts for Cairns), but the Rams stepped up and got great performances from Williams and Elmore that helped us pull away late. Anna Dreimane provided some quality production off the bench - 3 points, 4 boards, 4 blocks, 2 assists, and 0 turnovers in 10 minutes. She could be an X factor going forward, particularly if there's foul trouble with Tahane or Foppossi. The next game for our Rams (14-3, NET 52) is at home vs Davidson on Sunday 1/23 at 1PM. Go Rhody!
