Mason is LEGIT and Dayton is a dumpster fire. Not what anyone was predicting for sure. Shaping up to be a wild year in the A-10.

Except the other games tonight were disasters. Could have easily been a sweep for the a10 tonight with 3 wins vs P5s!

Re: Week #2 - Games of Interest
Weird night for the A-10 in six OOC games. Three games against teams from P-5 leagues ACC, Big Ten, and SEC. Two of them on the road. Three games against lower level leagues CAA and ASUN. Two of these at home.
Which three game group would you think the A-10 would sweep? Which group had the most potential for the A-10 to be swept?
Most logic would have predicted the different outcome last night.

They are projected to win the A-Sun with preseason POY Assadullah (F) and conference Newcomer of the Year Murr.
Dayton with their youth is experiencing a lot of growing pains.
Also Drexel is one of the favorites to finish top of the CAA.
Wyante is also a conference POY candidate.
Butler is an all conference forward who averaged close to a double/double.
St. Joe's of course was expected to win, but many thought it would be very close.
Meanwhile URI is taking care of business and GM is surprising everyone.

Drexel was a slight favorite, as they were -1, so technically not really an upset.

Don't sleep on Milwaukee. Not picking them to beat Florida but they're sneaky good. Playing at their place is going to be a hell of a challenge for Rhody.

I wasn’t surprised by George Mason because Maryland had struggled and underperformed in their 1st two games and Kim English is going to be an excellent coach imho as I have said several times since his hire. As you have stated regarding his incoming transfers previously, he also had hit the Class of 2022 Class hard and successfully already.

I agreed with you then that I liked the English hire, but didn't expect them to be this good so soon.
It is early and much can happen, but coach English definitely has them going in the right direction.
I hoped they would give Maryland a game, but never expected them to win there.

Watching Davidson and not having a go to dribble penetrator is hurting them, Foster Loyer is the closest to have to that and a baller , not having Grady or JAG is going to kill em ,but they still find ways to score off screens and cuts which will drive me crazy when we play them, as well as a close game w New Mexico State w/ less than 8 mins to go tied up at 56

Just Davidson ensuring they won't get any marquee wins out of conference and maintaining a very competitive team

New Mexico State beats Davidson 75-64.
Was rooting for Davidson but I think NMSU is the better team.

Re: Week #2 - Games of Interest
I full suspect them to go like 6-24, with two of the six wins against us.

Re: Week #2 - Games of Interest
UMass will pull off some surprise wins and have some bad losses.
They should be better than what you suggest, you were probably only half serious.
The last 2 games Garcia who averaged over 10 pts for them only played a total of 2 minutes.
Much anticipated transfer (grad) center Steadman (6'10") hasn't even suited up yet.

Boston U. seemingly with a comfortable 18 point lead midway through the second half had to withstand a furious comeback by winless Hartford who shaved the BU lead to one with 3 minutes left, but the Terriers survived to win 75-70. McCoy and Whtye combined for 36 points.

I mean the kid wanted to come here and we didn't want to look at him. We literally said we were all set and he wasn't worth a look. I think it's OK to be critical of the staff for not even bothering to kick the tires on a shooting guard when shooting is historically one of our biggest issues.SGreenwell wrote: ↑2 years agoFrom his posted highlights on Twitter, I don't really think he looks like an A-10 talent - more of a low D1 player, if that. Also, while he might be getting interest, I can't find any offers, and he doesn't have pages on Verbal Commits or the usual spots. (Then again, I'm always annoyed when URI gets crapped on for not recruiting a Rhode Island kid, as if it is every school's divine right and/or responsibility to sign all local talent.)Rhody15 wrote: ↑2 years agoThere's another RI kid, Jawarie Hamlin from Westerly, doing a post grad year at PRISE Academy in Missouri. He's had many D1 contacts and/or offers from mid majors (schools lower than the A10) from the tweets I've seen, maybe Cox and company could get a look at him while he's in the area?
Whether you think he looked like an A-10 talent or not he was literally the conference rookie of the year who shot 36% from 3 on a bad team.

Re: Week #2 - Games of Interest
I'm talking about Hamlin, not Kolek. I don't really know the background on Kolek. Looking at his Verbal Commits page, his best offers out of HS look to be Mason, Bonaventure and Richmond, so it wasn't like he was some hot shot prospect that everyone was after. It wouldn't surprise me if URI overlooked him, but I'd also note that he probably had his pick of schools after winning A-10 ROTY, and he transferred even further away from Rhode Island (the state). I'm not entirely sure that location had much of a bearing on where he decided to go, but whenever you directly ask a player a question like that, they're not going to answer, "No, I mostly care about playing time and the best situation for me."Blue Man wrote: ↑2 years agoI mean the kid wanted to come here and we didn't want to look at him. Maybe Richmond’s loss to Utah St last week won’t end up being as bad as I thought at the time. Utah St currently laying the wood to New Mexico St.
Then there’s Temple … yikes! Boise St isn’t exactly a national power.

Clemson looks to be a very good team that was unheralded coming into the season. In the first half they outclassed St. Bonaventure with the halftime score, 36-26. Nick Honor, the Fordham transfer, is making a nice contribution to the Clemson team. Let's hope the Bonnies can turn this around in the second half.
