Hey, you weren't at practice, so you can't judge what you saw in games and nothing would have changed anyway!

It's kind of hard to point to someone - the Magic suck, but the players ahead of Dotwin were mostly younger guys. It's not like they're keeping the corpse of Darren Collison or Rajon Rondo on the roster ahead of him. The fact that he was one of the last cuts though bodes well, whether it's getting a good G-League spot, or signing a higher cash deal in Europe.

Jeff will still likely play on magic G-league team. The reason for signing him then waiving him is because that gives the Magic the rights to keep him over any other team. Same situation happened to Gelo ball, Charlotte signed him then a day later waived him because they don’t have a spot for him on the roster but are going to lock him in on there g league team. The magic still also have one two way player contract slot open so that is also a potential option as well.

Wow - that's a pretty great spot for Jeff to end up! Looking at their depth chart, they don't have a ton at guard, since obviously Curry is going to play a ton of minutes most games. But if he's on the active roster, he'll get a chance to play in garbage time, and the Warriors in general haven't been shy about giving honest opportunities to deep bench / undrafted free agent types.

Considering the injury problems history with Steph and Klay and the fact that Steve Kerr is not a "set in his ways" coach...I'd imagine he won't be pickin' splinters at the end of the bench all season long.

He probably will be practicing more with the G league team. I am guessing it would be Damion Lee or Moody in practice? Keep soaking up Curry's work ethic like a sponge. He needs to edge out Gary Payton II for that final true roster spot. That's the only other true PG on the team besides Curry. I believe Poole/Lee/Moody will handle the ball during the few minutes Curry actually sits but they are more SGs.

Good "outsider" article from the Bay Area although misrepresenting Jeff's game a bit. He is definitely not a sharpshooter in the true sense of the word, but can shoot at a fairly high percentage for sure.

Jeff got into his first regular season game last night. He came in for Curry with 1:51 left in the game when Golden State was up 17. He got onthe stat sheet by getting a defensive rebound. Congrats Jeff!!

This is totally awesome...I haven't been here forever, but only a couple grad cycles. Got to meet Jeff, do pix etc. at past season tix holder events, flew back with my son on their flight from Davidson a few years ago. Jeff was an awesome player to watch here, but even moreso just seemed like an all around solid dude and you love to see guys like that succeed. If he never plays another minute...he played in the NBA and that's a small percentage of the world's hoopster population. Awesome to see good guys succeed.

JD back in action last night against the Kings (G league). 37 minutes, 20 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds. He continued to shoot well from three going 2/3. Also played solid defensively with only one foul and a steal. Only true blemish was 3 turnovers

I was watching the Warriors play the Pelicans this weekend, hoping to see Jeff get in, unaware that he was with the G-League team - whoops! But man, the Warriors know how to scout guards, because Gary Payton Jr. seems like a player too.

Dowtin got in for another four minutes in the Warriors' drubbing of the Hawks - it was the game Curry had 50 in. 0 points, 1 rebounds, 1 foul. Gary Payton Jr. continues to play well for the Warriors - only 2 points, but 3 steals, 4 rebounds and an assist in 22 minutes. He and Damion Lee (SG, 18 minutes, 5-for-8, 11 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block) would seemingly be ahead of Dowtin in the rotation.

Nice milestone. Dumb question but I wonder if he gets to keep the game ball at the end of the game? Think about how many basketball players in the world get to score a single point in the NBA. Jeff’s work ethic and his talent could continue to propel him upward in the NBA. He continues to play well for the Santa Cruz Warriors where he has back to back games this Wed and Thurs nights.

Congrats to Jeff on his first points in the NBA.

He has been playing well for Santa Cruz.
His averages through 9 games: 35 mins/17 pts (43% FG), 5.4 rebs/ 5.4 assists.

Wed night Santa Cruz beat Aqua Caliente 122-121 then lost Thurs night to the same team 91-115

Jeff Wed Night
35 min
17 points
10 rebounds
6 assists 1 turnover

Jeff Thurs night
32 min
14 points
7 rebounds
10 assists 1 turnover

Back to back nights with double doubles and close to triple doubles

Total of 16 assists and only 2 turnovers for the 2 games while being the key distributor for the team

Reminiscent of his 1st two years at URI as the PG when he was among the National Leaders in Assist to Turnover Ratio

I found this, maybe it helps:

"Two-way contract rule changes
Two-way players were originally permitted to spend 45 days per season with their NBA team but were ineligible to play in the playoffs. However as a result of the pandemic, the league permitted two-way players to become eligible for the 2020 NBA Playoffs.

For the 2020-21 season, the amount of time a two-way player could play with his NBA team was increased to 50 games, while the minimum salary for two-way contracts increased from an initial $81,955 minimum to an overall salary worth up to $449,155.

NBA News:

Durant on Kyrie Irving situation: "What is being mad going to do?"
For the upcoming 2021-22 season, the NBA Board of Governors also approved changes to roster-related rules regarding the use of two-way players during the regular season.

As per the NBA communique: “For the 2021-22 season, each two-way player will be paid a flat salary equal to 50% of the minimum player salary applicable to a player with zero years of service. A player under a two-way contract will be permitted to be on the NBA team’s active list for no more than 50 games during the regular season, with no limit on practices, workouts or other activities with the NBA team.

“In addition, there will be no deadline for signing two-way contracts with respect to the 2021-22 season, a change from the rule in the Collective Bargaining Agreement that prohibits teams from signing a player to a two-way contract after Jan. 15 of any season.”
