Like how the Staff writes up and announces all 7 players in the 2021 Recruiting Class. Good concise write ups and comments from our Assistant Coach on each recruit’s strengths and how they fit with the team. Well done.

Also impressed with how we continue to recruit a wide geographic area. There is a lot of interest from HS Students wanting yo attend URI.

Sarah Gunderson pitches a 7 inning 5 hit shutout vs East Tennessee State University for a Rhody 2-0 win.
Could Sarah get a 3rd consecutive A10 Pitcher of the week? 4 more games to be played this weekend

URI up on BC 4-0 in the 3rd on ACCN right now. BC has a nice looking softball complex.

URI beats BC 7-6 marking the first time URI softball has beaten BC since April 29, 1993. The end of a truly remarkable stretch of futility.

Rough season came to an end today: 5-22 overall and 2-12 in the conference. A Covid pause during the season to boot.

In spite of a rough season, there were some positives. The team hit .272, which is the highest average in quite some time. They beat UMass twice, which has not been done in a really long time. They also beat Boston College. There should be a lot of returning talent next year.

The pitching really struggled this year. It is a pretty young staff, with one freshman, three sophomores and one junior. This group is talented and should improve next year.

Actually, Covid influenced the season quite a bit. Games were lost due to Covid pauses to other teams and URI actually had two pauses in it's program, costing the team over 20 games.

Finally, the team was forced to play all of it's home games (except for two) at other schools. The field was deemed unplayable due to extremely poor condition of the infield. I know there was some talk on the baseball thread about facilities, and I know softball is not highly regarding at URI, but come on, shouldn't the university provide at a minimum a functioning facility. It is one of the worst D1 facilities in the Country.

She may be a good coach: I have no idea.

Undoubtedly, it was a really tough year with the Covid pauses and cancelled/postponed games and now I realize the facilities are sorely lacking. That said, it’s tough to keep your job after a season like this.

Looks like moving on from the head coach wasn't the only thing Thorr moved quickly on. Upgrades to the playing field happening today:

It is great that there is some activity out there. I really hope they took the time to look into the underlying conditions causing the infield to become unplayable and address those also. If not, it is not really an upgrade.

On paper, it looks like Thorr made an excellent choice for the next softball coach. Can't wait to see where Coach Goldstein takes this squad of talented players.

Hopefully the improved field and new coach will help lead to a more successful program

I am happy to see she has run a successful program (albeit D3) for several years. The previous coaches did not have previous HC experience before coming to URI. With the resources that are currently put into the softball program, and the very limited facilities, we were not going to pull Mike Candrea out of retirement.
