I think they're saying we'll be "surprised" at who the name is, not that they know the name.

Complete guess here, I'm going with someone with no connections to the school and his name hasn't been brought since the opening was posted.

Putting aside the recruiting violations early in his career, if he's the hire, his record at Morgan State would give me some pause. Namely, that his tenure there ended after six straight losing seasons. That being said, he does have 17 years of head coaching experience, if I'm counting right, so he might be a good foil for Cox in that regard.

Yeah I like the Hire as well. The head coaching experience is definitely something that was needed for this position. And MEAC schools tend to have bad records based on them playing so many buy games against P5 schools in the Non-conference to fund their athletic departments. I like when he took over for Morgan state after a horrific 4-26 season and two years later made the NIT with a 22-11 record. Then followed that up with two NCAA tourney appearances going 23-12 and 27-10. Also having experience from being a P5 head coach as well. And is well versed in Cox area and hot bed of the DC area.

Rod would approve. I know this, because his famous reply to Bill Reynolds in the Projo that kind of made him a household name to those who were not already familiar with him on local sports talk radio included a bit about the merits of hiring Todd Bozeman.

I don’t hate the hire but in all honesty I also don’t have a ton to go on either way. He certainly brings more college experience then Sutton did, and more recent experience then John Carroll. Hopefully he is able to get the players we have to develop.

Seems like a good experienced veteran hire. Makes sense with his URI connection and being from DC. His scandal and controversy are behind him since his NCAA ban for show-cause, with all his years at Morgan State.

5 NCAA tournament appearances, 2 NCAA tournament wins, 3 regular season conference titles, 17 years as a head coach and former player here, and another coach with DC roots. I'll gladly take that.

We'll see. Can't blame the non-conference schedule solely for his record, he was 33-47 in his last five years in conference. There's plenty of highlights and lowlights when scanning his wikipedia page and it seems like he's been out of the game for two years now. Also, I'm not sure how effective it is that he overlaps Cox' DC connections, it seems like new blood and recruiting connections would be beneficial there. I look at Sutton who had those same connections and frankly didn't think him leaving was any loss. At the end of the day, it's a former player coming home and not sure what candidates were going to line up for the job considering Cox' shaky future. Hopefully it works out

Cox needs to step back as lead recruiter and be the closer as head coach. This allows him to do that with Bozeman's DMV connections. I was not a Sutton fan so I'm hoping this is an upgrade. Todd does add a toughness to the staff.

This is a fair point, but is Cox capable of that? He should have been able to do that with Sutton. Sutton had those ties and Cox and Sutton, at least from the outside, seem to have a closer relationship, so Cox should have been able to step aside and let Sutton do the work for him

He recruited Jason Kidd (legally or illegally, who knows?), which means he has some sort of ability to close.

In the middle of the sleepy Baron years I was shouting to bring on Bozeman as a head coach so I'd say I'm pleasantly surprised on this choice as an assistant.

Risky? Sure. Not a whole lot to lose at this point and to echo what others are saying - we're not exactly an ideal landing spot for a top tier assistant with Cox's future TBD.

I was surprised when I heard it but I like it for a lot of the reasons cited here. I think any good program has a strong lineage with their former players. We haven't always been great at that so I like the idea of a former Ram on the staff. Especially in a recruiting role bc no one can credibly sell a program better than someone who came out of it...I like the toughness he brings as DCRams alluded to and if I look at is as a like for like swap I think he is head and shoulders a better option than Sutton. He also brings big game experience as a player and coach and he will have more presence with the players/program than anyone on our staff last 2 years.

Just researched his history a bit. This is a guy who actually has a better resume then Coach Cox (more NCAA appearances and at a P5 level), which should light a fire under his ass to make sure hes still the HC.
