TRANSFERS FIGURE TO IMPACT BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL FOR RHODE ISLAND

Rhode Island added several transfers from BCS programs who figure to make an immediate impact.
  • Redshirt junior quarterback Kasim Hill (Tennessee/Maryland) figures to start under center.
  • Behind him on the field will be redshirt freshman Kevin Brown, Jr. (Massachusetts). In three games for UMass in 2019, Brown rushed for 120 yards and one touchdown, averaging 4.4 yards per carry.
  • He was heavily recruited by the Rams out of Everett (Mass.) High School before joining the Minutemen.
  • Brown and redshirt senior Zoe Bryant, Jr. figure to handle the bulk of the backfield work this season.
  • Redshirt freshman linebacker Evan Stewart (Boston College) ran with the first defense throughout the preseason.
  • Junior safety O'Neil Robinson (Connecticut) figures to be part of the safety rotation and has 83 tackles and three interceptions to his FBS resume.
  • Redshirt sophomore defensive linemen Matt Thomas and Keshon Williams, redshirt freshman defensive lineman Malachi Burby redshirt freshman long snapper Donato Crisanti all transferred from Rutgers.

I hope the game is closer than 13.5 points. But that isn't giving us a chance. Again, we have nothing to lose, all to gain in this spring season. If we can get the experience against the best opponents, and it helps in the fall, that is the win.

I’ve always liked Ivory Frimpong and he catches the first pass of the year.

Kevin Brown!!! The UMASS Transfer. Rhody strikes first.

Offense has looked good so far with Hill at the helm. Have been able to move the ball on the ground, he's shown a good arm, and has the ability to move outside the pocket and still throw an accurate ball.
Robinson got a series that went 3 and out. Especially with this modified spring season, will be interesting to monitor his development as well.

Kevin Brown, Jr. is the real deal. Super refreshing to have a dominant runner on this team.

Another TD for Brown. In addition to Brown, there is some depth in the backfield with Zoe Bryant. Justice Andtrum also broke off a big run that was called back due to a holding call.
Frimpong and Lee have shown some talent. Obviously they aren't Coulter and Parker, but they don't necessarily have to be in order for the team to have success.

What a disastrously bad start to the second half.

Up 21-14 at half. Villanova takes the first play from scrimmage to the house for a TD.
On our ensuing possession, Kassim Hill, trying to make a play and avoid a sack, makes an ill-advised throw that leads to an INT from a DLineman. Villanova takes the ball on a short field and punches it in.
We are currently down 28-21 in approximately 2 minutes.

Strange play calling down the stretch. 3 straight runs get the ball down to the 5, but URI elects to not call their timeout until 2 seconds were left. FG is good and we are going to overtime.

Hill throws for 246 yards chipping in 36 yards on the ground and a TD. Brown takes 20 carries for 141 and 4 TDs. Frimpong goes over 100 yards, Lee goes for 60+. Defense looked a bit shaky at times but has two huge stops down the stretch.

2 really questionable calls by Fleming to kick a FG from the 1 and then to not even try to win the game in regulation by using a TO. But one thing is certain, the guy can recruit, this is another talented bunch.

I was surprised at the decision. We did have momentum... But typically the road dog is trying to punch it in at the end. Keeping it on the ground and waiting to burn the TO was certainly the conservative play.

Watched the highlights because I’m an idiot and thought the program was on pause with last weeks cancellation.

Brown is faaast and Hill looks very poised.

Flem is a great recruiter and for all the “near misses” last year, maybe this is when they put it together.

The time management was awful. Almost cost them the game. I can't believe Thorr does not ask Flem and Cox-"whats up with the time outs"?

I wish they showed more Kasim highlights, but it seems like he's a very big reason why we won.

QB play is everything in football.

Put Kasim on last seasons team and we're in the playoffs probably.

Too many chunk runs. We gave up 6.3 yrds per rush last year and it hasn’t improved. LBs need to stop running themselves out of plays...read, react & tackle. Albany with Mofor will try to do the same next Saturday. Eliminate those long runs and we can beat anyone.
