Rams Fall in Four Sets to Northeastern

How it Happened
Rhode Island could not stop Northeastern's attack, falling to the Huskies in four sets, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16, 26-24, Saturday afternoon.

Northeastern (2-1) jumped out fast, taking seven of the first nine points. Rhody (1-3) chipped away, eventually tying the set at 10-10. The rest of the set went back and forth with 12 ties and five lead changes. The Huskies got a solo block from Nailah Jenkins to tie the score at 23-23, but URI came back with kills from Claire Wagner and Samantha Blahut to take the first set.

Northeastern came back with a strong run late in the second set. After Rhody scored to pull within a point at 18-17, Northeastern scored seven of the next eight points to even the match. The Huskies had their offense in rhythm, getting 15 kills with just three errors in the set.

Down two points late in the fourth set, Rhode Island got an ace from Annie Ell, a kill from Samantha Blahut and an attack error from Northeastern to tie the score at 23-23. The teams traded the next two points, but Northeastern got kills from Arliel Defne on back-to-back points to end the match.

Inside the Box Score
Junior Mariah Paulette led the Rhode Island offense with 11 kills.
Senior Claire Chaplinsky added a double-double, finishing with 10 kills and 13 digs.
Freshman Samantha Blahut had seven kills with just one error. She also added three bllock assists.
Junior libero Ella Ratzloff had 18 digs and four assists.
Northeastern's trio of Erica Staunton, Arliel Defne and Brianna Daphnis combined for 41 kills and just 11 errors.
The Huskies got eight blocks from Nailah Jenkins, and 13 total as a team.
