Week #9 - Games of Interest
Re: Week #9 - Games of Interest
Talking about a crazy year
Rutgers was ranked #11 just about 2 weeks ago and they considered Pikiell the savior of the program.
Tonight they just lost their 5th straight game at Penn State (1st conference win) and the fans are calling for his head and saying he is not the answer.
They even started a thread saying Pike is a Fake.
Thought on their forum is that many players will transfer out after this year.
Sound familiar?

I’m sure if you look you will find someone saying:
“Free throws”
“Hero ball”
“Our offense sucks”
“They just need to practice foul shots more”

Arizona beat Arizona State, 84-82 on a last second put back of a missed shot. ASU had a 82-77 lead with less than 2 minutes left, but on every possession in the remaining time ASU players took highly contested, low percentage shots and combined with bad defensive lapses, it doomed them. Bobby Hurley looked like a chump of a coach in those minutes.

On Friday, there are no A-10 games scheduled nor are there any games involving URI OOC opponents.
Seton Hall at Butler has been postponed.

This thread has become an interesting barometer on URI basketball. When the Rams are doing well, weekly responses zoom to over 100, when the Rams aren't doing so well, it boils down to me and reef talking to each other.

Almost every team has lapses, some more than others.
I would totally expect our team to have them especially under the circumstances of this season.
Except our lapses are way too frequent for us to be any good.
20% of the time we look like a top 10 team...the other 80% we are either mediocre or just plain shit.
The goal is, to be good 80% of the time, not the other way around.
That goes for the coach too.

Man, that was an air ball shot that turned into a pass for an assist. Wish we could give you more Reef, but this team is not one to bet on or against this year. Jekyll and Hyde type of year.

Associated Press
SAN FRANCISCO -- The Pac-12 Conference has reprimanded Arizona State basketball coach Bobby Hurley for his comments about the officiating late in a loss to rival Arizona.
The conference said Friday that Hurley was reprimanded for public comments about the officials following an 84-82 loss to the Wildcats on Thursday night.
Hurley was furious a foul wasn't called on Azuolas Tubelis for hitting the arm of Arizona State guard Remy Martin with nine seconds left. Tubelis was credited with a blocked shot and made the winning shot at the buzzer on a tip-in.
Replays showed Tubelis did hit Martin on the arm, but the Pac-12 prohibits coaches from making public derogatory comments about officiating. Coaches are supposed to provide feedback to the coordinator of officiating instead of making public comments.

Re: Week #9 - Games of Interest
Rutgers fans are idiots , Pikell has done fantastic job there. They have been a total joke of a program for years he brings them around and hits his first pothole and the fans are all over him. I believe they will turn it around and would love for Pikell to move on to another job if they do.Then give the Rutgers fan base the middle finger on the way out..Jersey77 wrote: ↑3 years ago Talking about a crazy year

Re: Week #9 - Games of Interest
This is only a little surprising to me - NET is 70 despite the losing record. It is easy for a person (who does not WATCH this team regularly) to project that the remainder of the season The record will improve. THIS IS NOT ME SAYING IT WILL HAPPEN (though that is my wish). A stat computer guy could run the numbers and probably make that argument that in March we will be on the right side of the bubble. Those of us who watch the team know that is extremely unlikely at this point in time, like less than 5%.

Why do I feel like there’s still some Hope left for this squad? Still some time on the clock to turn things around? Possibly.

Impressive performance by La Salle to knock off Richmond, 84-78. The Explorers showed what it takes to keep a close game in check by repeatedly breaking the Richmond press and then hitting free throws. La Salle on their home court will be a tough out for URI. Richmond showed the effects of a two weeks of inaction due to Covid prtocols.

Richmonds defense was terrribleeee and they shot lights out against URI but couldn’t hit a three for their lives against la salle.
Dayton is so short handed, and VCU just punched them directly in the mouth from the start

Re: Week #9 - Games of Interest
Davidson in a strong second half performance came from 5 down at the half to beat UMass, 69-60. Key to that effort was putting the brakes on Trey Mitchell who had 12 points in the first half, but was limited to 4 in the second.

Re: Week #9 - Games of Interest
What is the league going to do with them? Some teams have played NINE conference games and they have zero in the books. It is highly unlikely they are going to be able to make all of these up with just six weeks left. Should they be allowed to compete in the A-10 Tournament if they have played significantly less league games? How do you seed them if they participate? Some tough decisions.

I think they're good enough to get in. Like the Ohio State of CFB.RF1 wrote: ↑3 years agoWhat is the league going to do with them? Just like Big Ten did with Ohio St, they changed the rules allowing their best team to have a chance to make the playoff/national championship game.
Hopefully they do allow them in even if they play minimal games, they’re the best chance the conference has at a tournament win.
Now I’m sure if I was a Bonnies, Richmond, or Davidson fan I wouldn’t want them in because I would have a better chance to win, but since we have zero shot at winning the whole thing, I want St Louis with all the opportunity they can get.
