Amazing Achievement by Isaiah Coulter

• Coulter tied for the highest Round ever drafted in by a URI Football Player

• He was Drafted in the 5th Round, as was Steve Furness by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1972 and Jeff Williams by the Los Angeles Rams in 1977

• The Highest Selections were Furness #113, Williams #134 followed by Coulter #171

• Coulter is the highest drafted Non-Lineman ever from URI. Furness was a DE and Williams a OG

• Coulter was one of only 2 Players Drafted from the CAA. The other was Ben DiNucci from JMU who was chosen 231st in Round 7 by Dallas Cowboys

• Coulter is the 1st URI Ram Football Player Drafted since Bob White in the 7th Round in 1986

• The NFL has only 7 Rounds now. Only 4 URI Ram Football Players have been Drafted 7th Round or Higher: Furness(5), Williams(5), Coulter(5) and White(7). Amazing achievements for all 4 of these players

Entering Thursday, FCS schools had produced an average of 18 picks per draft since the NFL shifted from 12 to seven rounds in 1993, with a high of 29 (1996) and a low of 12 (2003). This year, they produced just six.

LSU had 14 players selected, matching Ohio State's mark from 2004. Trailing them were Ohio State (10), Michigan (10) and Alabama (9).
86 of the 130 FBS teams had at least one player drafted, and just nine Power 5 teams did not produce a draft pick.

The state of play: The cancellation of pro days and general chaos created by coronavirus appears to have hurt FCS prospects, with teams favoring the "less risky" FBS prospects who they likely had much more information about.

The bottom line: Some FCS players will sign as undrafted free agents or join practice squads, but plenty of talented players who may have realized their dreams this weekend if not for the pandemic are left with no clear next step.

The Virus likely hurt the chances for Aaron Parker and Kyle Murphy from being drafted. Also may have impacted Coulter as one Service had Coulter going in the 4th Round.

Parker was one of the final two cuts for the Cowboys. He will likely be on their practice squad.
Murphy was cut by the Giants: no details regarding their practice squad.

Kenny Stills did not play today and Randall Cobb got hurt on this touchdown catch and did not return. Quick turnaround for the Texans, with the early Thanksgiving Day game against the Lions. It’s possible Coulter may need to be activated for this game. Maybe he gets his first playing time in a nationally televised game.
