Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
I liked what I saw from the recorded Seton Hall games that I watched for Nelson. He was more of a traditional point guard than Carey was, but at the same time, that was obviously the role Willard/Seton Hall expected out of him too.
I think this could be a good get overall. Perhaps the close proximity to home will help us here. We are losing two guys in Fatts and Sheppard by next year, regardless of what happens, who share the PG responsibilities, so a little more depth at this position for '21 can only help.

Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
Leggett seems like the traditional 2 guard, and so does Berry for that matter. Lot's of fire power at the two guard slot.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑4 years ago If we get this guy will Leggett and Berry be all mad that they may not play much for one year and leave?
Been watching a lot of highlight film on the Scotland Prep team that Tre Berry and Abou Ousmane played for, and Berry played with a really good point guard there, named Jaeden Zackery (who is still available btw). And if you watch the film you can see how Berry thrived with a good PG setting him up for a lot of points.
Go to this link and watch the second youtube video down and watch the interaction between Zackery and Berry...

edit.
Did you see the score listed in some of these games. ex 83 to 21 lol This team with Zackery, Berry, and Ousmane just annihilated their opponents

Would be interesting if we end up with both Nelson and TT , the Seton Hall connection. Dan Hurley would be amused.

Has there been any connection w/Taurean Thompson?
There is no thread on him in recruiting and no one posted any tweets, sources, or any details that Cox is recruited him. I ask cause I think you have mentioned TT a few times jersey77

On earlier threads, someone had asked about TT and I tagged along with my own thoughts and insights on him along with several other posters. I have no idea if our staff has had any interest or contact with him. We just thought with is size, athletic ability, and immediate eligibility that he may be a descent fit.

Doesn't seem to be much info out there on commit timing or where Ant Nelson may be leaning.

Some on the Seton Hall board seem to think he may be leaning to staying close to home

So Manhattan or Rhody? Or maybe a team to be named later a la Jonah?

If Fatts does decide tonight that will likely help Nelson's decision.

Maybe Rutgers could also be a landing spot, both their point guards Geo Baker and Jacob Young will be seniors this season.

Not sure, did he even put out a list of finalists? Recruitment is always very fluid and changes rapidly, we have seen Wake Forest come in the last minute and grab Jonah.

His top 5 was posted in this thread.
It was BYU, Long Beach St, URI and some others

Thanks missed it, keep in mind as I just stated WF wasn't even in Jonah's top 3. I always did considered Rutgers a longshot for Nelson just because of that ugly interstate rivalry, like one of our players going to Providence. It would be fun drama though.

My gut tells me he's coming here.
Of course, I just had some Halo Top Mint Chip ice cream, so that could just be indigestion. My gut has been wrong before.

Did hear he may be making a decision end of the week, we will see, that can easily change. I can go for some mint chip ice cream, it has been awhile.

I also heard he's going to make a decision today, or tomorrow, maybe the next day, or the next week, or the following week, also a chance he decides the following month.

Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
If he is going to sit a year, which he most likely is no matter where he goes, Fatts will be gone, Sheppard will be gone. We'll be loaded in the 2 and 3 guard position with Leggett, Berry, Martin, and Betrand. Point guard is the opening.
Nelson is still a combo guard who has demonstrated he can play the point at this level. So is Fatts. So is Sheppard. There really isn't a point guard among the four listed above though. They are all shooters, slashers, scorers, not distributors.
So, I can understand if he wants to go to BYU, but don't do it because of some ill perceived concept that there isn't playing time. Same thing happened with Ousmane. He bolted, and he would have started here this year, or at least by the second half of the year most likely. He took off because he was scared off by the presence of the twins.

This is going to be one of those emotional roller coaster days. And we've just started.

No offense, but he doesn’t seem like a fit for BYU

I did mention in earlier posts that he was leaning towards staying close to home per the SH forum.

Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
I do not want another sit out transfer unless they are a major talent. Anthony is a nice player but not worth punting next season in my book.

Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
I think between the virus and Fatts not returning next season it is pretty much punted already. There are not many immediate eligible candidates that will make a difference. Next season will be about Leggett, Berry and continued development of Harris.DeanDome88 wrote: ↑4 years ago I do not want another sit out transfer unless they are a major talent. Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
“He told me, ‘you need to go somewhere you’re wanted.’ I always kept whatever he told me in the back of my head at all times,” Nelson told The Post in a phone interview, after committing to transfer to play for Steve Masiello at Manhattan over Long Beach State. “He was one of the first people to put a basketball in my hand.”

I’m very happy Fatts is coming back. I am very happy to be wrong. The board is about making guesses and predictions. Don’t take everything that is said so sensitive.sevegny7 wrote: ↑4 years agoLol way to count fatts already gone before he even announced.
