There is a lot more moving pieces that don’t make the decision that simple.RF1 wrote: ↑4 years ago The NCAA is looking worse by the hour. With all major league sports shutting down and college conferences cancelling their tournaments, it leaves the NCAA Tournament as the only major sporting event that is still on. The NCAA needs to weigh out postponing the event vs cancelling. To weigh out postponing the event means figuring out an acceptable timeline, arena logistics, etc.
Everyone wants the tournament postponed at this point, but would ideally like to play when it is safe to do so.
There is no need at this point for the NCAA to throw out a half-assed plan but actually put thought into “We are going to set these dates for the tournament and these are the arenas and if it’s still not safe by that point then we’d have to cancel.”
That’s better than a “we are postponing the event and you’ll get more info sometime in the future.”

How is it then that the NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS can make decisions? Is it somehow more difficult in the amateur ranks for the NCAA?

Re: A-10 tourney cancelled
The other sports have 1) simply suspended their seasons indefinitely and 2) don’t have the nightmare of trying to coordinate neutral site games across the country if they decide to move play in the future.
The NCAA can’t simply follow suit and say “Well do what they do and suspend play for 30 days” and figure it out from there. Are arenas open for 5+ days? Do they have to move host sites to different cities? Are those things even possible a month from now given the unpredictability in other sports between regular season/playoffs? Does the NCAA have a hard deadline as players start to prep for the NBA draft? Does the NBA relax their schedule and push their off-season back a month or two which allows players to push draft prep?
These are all variables of postponing. Professional leagues will likely just shorten the regular season by how many games were missed. Maybe add in a few other games to try to even out games played.

Re: A-10 tourney cancelled
Those leagues all were in the middle of having games being played to, same with conferences. The NCAA Tournament wasnt supposed to start for another week. They had the luxury of waiting a little longer and not needing to make an immediate announcement. There was never any question about whether the tournament would be canceled or not. The decision was made. The announcement just came a few hours later.RF1 wrote: ↑4 years agorjsuperfly66 wrote: ↑4 years agoThere is a lot more moving pieces that don’t make the decision that simple.RF1 wrote: ↑4 years ago The NCAA is looking worse by the hour. So we have 1,300 people with a flu like virus in a country of 350 million and the place is on lockdown? wow.

Keep comparing it to the flu while you watch the death count and infection rates rise exponentially. It’s well beyond time to take this seriously.theblueram wrote: ↑4 years ago So we have 1,300 people with a flu like virus in a country of 350 million and the place is on lockdown? wow.
Hint: it’s not about how many infected now, it’s about the growth rate.

Re: A-10 tourney cancelled
It was inevitable that the NCAA would have to take this unfortunate path once its own conferences and all the major league sports took action. The NCAA looks clueless to have waited for so long to decide what everyone else knew would be the outcome.

Re: A-10 tourney cancelled
RF1, the other leagues simply pressed pause. The NCAA had to make a decision to cancel a season. If you can’t understand why that is drastically different no one can help you.

Why don't you then explain your reasoning to the CAA Men's Basketball Tournament ref that has just tested positive for the virus along with all the players, staff, and fans he was in close proximity to at their event.

Re: A-10 tourney cancelled
None of that information was made public until recent. Just because the NCAA waiting to announce a decision on an event scheduled for next week at 4 versus 1 or 10 I don’t think makes a significant difference. Now if the NCAA knew of contamination and let conferences go to the arena today that’s a different story. Val Ackerman said her in her press conference that the Big East had a conference call at 10 AM with reps from the NCAA who mentioned nothing about other conferences cancelling games or this ref. Did the NCAA know things and not share? That’s a different allegation than making the announcement later in the afternoon.

Re: A-10 tourney cancelled
You have to wonder how all of this will affect some who were going to declare early for the NBA draft.
Obi might think he's got some unfinished business to attend to, and stay another year?
Not likely for him, but just a thought.
I heard that Gino suggested that seniors get another year of eligibility.
That's not going to happen...the entire regular season was completed.

Re: A-10 tourney cancelled
No chance he waits a year.
I think he ends up going higher than #3, unfortunately he won’t get to shine in the great NCAA Tournament stage
But NBA Scouts know his capabilities.
He is old for a sophomore too

Re: A-10 tourney cancelled
He'd be crazy not to go. He's at his apex right now, compared to anything that would happen next year. I hope he has an awesome NBA career, even though I barely follow the NBA. I would watch him just to see how he does.
Now sprinkle some of that elite talent on your younger brother please.

There is no way Toppin is not going NBA this year. it would be insane to go back to Dayton. Buy Low / Sell High - Toppin is now a Sell High Guy. How do you get higher than #3 Lottery Pick
Plus is is an old Sophomore. and the Draft is taking younger guys every year in the first round.

Since theres all this dead coronavirus time, I caught my mind wandering and wondered how long have we had the two toned blue interlocking RI as a logo and exactly when did it become the main logo?
I know a lot of it had to do with Dan.

I have two t-shirts with the two-toned interlocking R-I that I bought long before that snake slithered into town. And it was Frank Keaney himself who introduced the interlocking logo back in the 40s, though Its shape and coloring have changed over the years.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑4 years ago Since theres all this dead coronavirus time, I caught my mind wandering and wondered how long have we had the two toned blue interlocking RI as a logo and exactly when did it become the main logo?

I guess when you bought your shirts it was just some kind of cool alternative logo at the time.
Definitely a good move to change to the interlocking RI.

The interlocking two toned RI logo existed well before Dan Hurley ever set foot on campus. It may not have been always the uniform brand across all programs but it has been used for many decades.

Yeah I knew it existed before Dan, but when did it begin? And when did we switch to the interlocking RI permanently? 2012-2013?
