Tonight’s beating of VCU by SLU
- Saint Louis looked strong tonight
- Saint Louis now has 19 wins
- Heard tonight Goodwin and French are the only pair from the same team, among all 353 D1 teams, to average double doubles in points and rebounds
- Saint Louis had lost 8 straight games to VCU
- The #1 Seed in the A10 Tournament has not won the Tournament the last 5 years
- The Saint Louis - URI game at URI Sunday March 1 is now shaping up to be a big game
- Yuri Collins, just a freshman, has 12 assists tonight - is is really improving fast for SLU

I didn’t see any of last night’s game, but the couple of times I’ve watched St Louis play, I’ve been impressed by Collins’ quickness. He may not be as quick as Fatts, but he could give him some problems with his defense. I think this is going to be a tough, physical game: ugly to watch, but close throughout. I’m glad it’s at the RV.

Javonte Perkins has really come on offensively.

I'm intrigued by a lot of games to the point where, nerdily enough, I have a bunch of them with time and channel translations on a white board....
Potential problem is that it's pretty nice outside, like sunny and above freezing...high risk of 'squirrels'...

The last time I went to the Civic Center for a basketball game, might have been 20 years ago when I met Elm City in the main lobby and we sat in the nose bleeds to watch Lamar Odom, Jim Harrick and URI vs Bobby Huggins's Cincinnati thug life team. I did go to the URI-PC game there that year, but I think it was before the Cincy game.

I may have been to one URI-PC game in the Civic Center since that year. But not for 15 years or more. Since the Ryan was built, I've only been to URI-PC home games in Kingston.

Busy schedule on Saturday in the A-10 with the highlight game being Rhode Island at Davidson, 5:30 PM. On CBSSN. Davidson is coming off a surprise loss to Saint Joseph's while URI is coming off two uneven performances against Dayton and St. Joes. URI will need its best defensive effort against the Wildcats who are always a tall order at Belk.

Other A-10 games:

Duquesne at Dayton, 2 PM.

UMass at Fordham, 4 PM. On ESPN+.

La Salle at George Washington, 4 PM. On ESPN+.

Saint Joseph's at George Mason, 4:30 PM.

Richmond at St. Bonaventure, 6:30 PM.

There’s a difference between actively rooting for PC & acknowledging that they look fantastic & have really turned it around when they could have easily just folded. I’m very impressed & if they keep this up, they won’t just be in - but no one will want to face them in the opening round. I hate ‘em as much as most Rhody fans do (especially their vile, troll fans on twitter) but gotta give credit & hey, it can only help us.

On the flipside - Despite being the best conference NET wise, I have been seriously underwhelmed with the Big East this season. Besides Seton Hall & Creighton in some spots, the other teams have been extremely one dimensional & unimpressive IMO.

If PC finishes at 11-7, which is doable given home games remaining with Xavier and DePaul, I think they just need to win one BE tournament game to make the tournament. A top four regular season record and making the BE tournament semis will be enough. Most of their bad losses were in the OOC and the selection committee will look past that, given their finish.

Temple went 18-0 in 1988. Not sure about anyone since. Maybe St. Joe’s in 2004? I know Xavier beat them but I think that was in the A10 tourney. GW in 2007 or so was flirting with it. Maybe UMass?

Edit: Temple went 18-0 twice (1984 & 1988). St Joe’s went 16-0 in 2004 and GW 16-0 2 years later. No one else.
