PeterRamTime wrote: 4 years ago It would barely effect their NET and who the hell else other than us and maybe VCU can beat them?

How low our NET is also comes into play as well so the higher NETs we play and beat the better.

It's not impossible for 4 teams to make the dance in the A-10.

The ACC is trending towards 4 to 5. I know the big ten is taking a lot of those but so can the A-10.

Are you also saying we dont want Alabama to become a tournament team?

If us Bama and SLU are tournament teams then why should we have to worry about them knocking us out since we would have similar NET rankings and we BEAT them?

Dont forget the selection committee also grades you on how you do against the field and if we only beat two teams in the field I don't think that helps as much as four.

I want Alabama to win, but as I mentioned in another thread, if it comes dow to us and Alabama for the last Spot, the committee could look at Alabama beating Auburn as a bigger win for them than us beating Alabama at home is for us. It’s a little more difficult to see how things will play out with Alabama.

Now your saying the A10 could get 4 teams. That would be the max and I wouldn’t bet on it. Dayton is one. VCU has an inside track on another (despite their loss to us, they are currently in and we aren’t). You want SLU to win tonight and have them in. That’s 3. So now you have us fighting for the long shot 4th bid. What about Richmond? They beat us. And what if some other team wins the A10 tourney.

EVERYONE on this board is disagreeing with you. I know people like TP and Blue Man are much smarter than me about this stuff and they disagree with you too.

Continue to cheer for other A10 teams to beat Dayton. Your rooting interest won’t effect the outcomes of the games or URI’s chances of dancing.

URI making it with the max amount of teams in the A-10 making it is what I want.

I'm not even saying what I'm rooting for is that realistic. I just want Rhody and as many A-10 teams to make it as possible.

The A-10 gets revenue from it which is funneled back into the leagues teams and the more strong programs in the league the better for us for recruiting purposes and future chances at marquee win during the conference season.

I felt that SLU winning would go towards the already slim possibility of four teams making the tournament, but uh yeah they have a steeper hill to climb than we do now for sure.

Probably dont deserve it with their earth shatteringly bad free throw shooting.

I think everyone here would like to see the A10 represented, but I’m rooting for URI first. Until we have a bid secured I’m not rooting for other teams that we could be on the bubble with. And SLU winning tonight would hurt our chances because they would have been one more team on the bubble (a bubble we are not on yet by the way)If we hadn’t lost to Brown and Richmond and had won 2of 3 of WVU, LSU, and MD, then I’d be with you. URI would be in and I’d be rooting for other A10 teams to enhance their resumes. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

Reef,
I didn’t play the over/under

I took Saint Louis +7.5. I don’t bet too often, only when I have a hunch I think is solid. Giving 7.5 points to a St Louis Team with experienced players like a French and Goodwin on their Home Court seemed like a lot - and it was.
French AND Goodwin both had double doubles.

Saint Louis plays at the Ryan Center Sunday March 1 at 2pm.
Then URI host Dayton Wednesday March 4 at 9pm

SLU could be a very important game since we do not play SLU home and home. So if we end up in a tie for 1st, or 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th with SLU then the winner of the March 1 game will get the tie breaker.

March 1 and March 4 should be circled on every Rhody Ram Fans Calendar

Plus Dayton is Senior Night!!

I actually think you need to start rooting for the opposite. If PC were to go 3-2 in their next 5 (big if), they are going to see their NET jump approximately 30 spots, will be approximately 5-5 in Q1 games and 3-0 in Q2 games, and will have offset their bad losses. As much as PC winning improves their NET to becoming a Q2 game for URI, it could also force both teams into jostling for births on the bubble.

If it were to end up between us and PC for an NCAA berth, our win against them could be the deciding factor.

Not likely to come down to that, but you never know.

Saint Joseph's beat back Penn, 87-81, in a game the Hawks led most of the way. Ryan Daly scored 30 points, 5-6 on FT's and 3-7 on treys with nine rebounds.

Both teams were without key players. Biggest loss was big guy Osun O for the Bonnies for concussion protocol from prior game. VCU didn't have Marcus Evans or Vince Williams. VCU dominated from the start and led by 28 points at the half. Halted its two game losing skid.

the committee could also say their Q1 wins are better than our win at home against them. Same with Alabama and their win vs. Auburn. We don't need more company on the bubble.

West Virginia is pounded by Kansas State, 84-68. KSU led most of the way building their largest margin at 24 points before the Mountaineers went a a furious run to cut the lead to 8, but could never get closer.

Great game
The Friars were up 5 with about 90 seconds left. It was looking good for them. PC then got outscored 9-0 the rest of the way. Tough way to lose especially when you consider the stretch of schedule they started today (5 straight games vs ranked teams).

If UMass continues to suck this year, McCall is gone. The AD forced him to fire all three of his Assistants last year.

IDk, they are safely in the top-100 now so beating them handily on a neutral court is a good win in my book, and regardless is a Q2 win. I don't care what their record is, and neither does the quadrant system.

Which is fine if it works in our favor from an NET ranking. Just saying a win over North Texas isn’t going to turn any heads. Alabama, Western Kentucky and PC are better wins

How about my eyes watching both teams play. Pretty simple. Just because North Texas may have gotten beat up by a bunch of good teams or won by 10 or more against bad teams that manipulates a flawed system in the NET doesn’t make me change my mind. Do you feel that Baylor is the best team in the nation? They are ranked 1 in the NET

Umm Baylor is #2 or #3 in all polls so yeah I guess their actual ranking by the eye test is pretty dam close to their NET. And if you are judging based solely on watching UNT and WKU against us then that isn’t an eye test. It’s a 1 game sample unless you have been watching a lot of CUSA games.

So your way of judging is simply by looking at the NET rankings and you must feel the TEP best teams in the nation are SD State and Baylor. Western Kentucky beat North Texas a couple weeks ago. Any system that gives you extra points for winning by 10, but not 9 and so is no way to judge

The NET is suspect but we need to adapt to it cause that is the measure. I'm not a fan of the NET but is is what it is.

So...Cal @ UCLA at 8...that's a Game of Interest because (likely, hopefully) ... Bill Walton?

ETA: Bitter, bitter disappointment.
