Now the Red Sox are being accused of stealing signs using the replay room during their 2017 title season?

Cora is involved with the Astros issue too.

He might get a long unplanned vacation along with a bunch of Astros.

What is it with Boston teams cheating? Hey let's be like the Pats!

The whole sign stealing thing seems risky to me...like...if teams were good at signs (i.e., made then non-translatable/non-stealable) wouldn't we see more guys getting hurt leaning into fastballs that they expected to be breaking pitches? The fact that we don't...I don't know, makes it seem like maybe the signs are too simple?

What would happen if there were no restrictions on 'sign stealing'*? The teams would figger out a way around it, wouldn't they? So, just do that already. No matter what they do now, someone will figure out a way around it. Be better with your signs.

PS - even as a Jints fan, I thought spygate was over the top. Spying on practices should be a non-no, but filming a guy on the sideline that 70,000 people can see already...not seeing the problem. Evolve your signs.

Great my favorite teams deflate footballs and steal signs

What are the Celts gonna do bring Auerbach out of the grave to turn the AC off in the Garden in June ??

The sox situation is different then the astros. The astros devised a system to steal them. The red sox apparently used legal video footage to observe the signals. Its odd.

It's still using technology to steal signs.

No good.

There will be penalties.

Not as bad as the Astros' situation though.

But since Cora was likely involved with that situation too, this new issue with the Sox is a bad look, and could be more costly in the end.

Sort of like what the penalties will be for the Pats for their latest deal.

Their penalties will be worse because of Spygate and Deflategate. Their reputation precedes them.

Do better with signs. You got nothing else to do when you're not playing baseball.
Put down the fortnite and figure out a way to do signs that can't be stolen...

The Astros got whacked BIG TIME today.

Hinch and Ludlow gone for the year. One more screw up, and gone for good.

5 mil fine and loss of top 2 draft picks in each of the next 2 drafts.

Cora is next. He's going to get a vacation at least as long as the other 2...he was the ringleader with the Astros and also the issue with the Red Sox in 2018.

Why wouldn’t Cora get fired? I don’t see any reason why he should stay employed by the Red Sox. He has to clean out his desk, turn in his computer, cell phone and keys. Goodbye.

That WS win will be tainted.

Years from now people won't care.

But for now they will.

Wonder how much Dombrowski knew about the sign stealing when he was here?

Of course he's gone already....if he was still here he would likely be out the door along with Cora.

Make. Better. Signs.
Good grief...your job is to play baseball. Make signs that people can't steal...seems like it shouldn't be that hard.
Policing what people can do with what everyone can see...just seems like they got bigger issues.

I guess making signs to stay ahead of the stealers isn't that easy. Technology is everywhere, being used for good or not.

Sort of like the battle to stay ahead of identity theft....you have to get more and more sophisticated because the crooks are getting more sophisticated all the time.

This isn't over by a long shot.

The Red Sox are going to be hit with huge penalties.

Maybe they think it's over by letting Cora go.

Nope.

Other heads will roll, and draft picks will be gone too.

The penalties can't be any more significant than for Houston, can they?
And what 'other heads'? Seems like the only logical target is gone...I doubt they'd punish Bloom and whoever else they got back there to punish...most of us probably haven't heard of them. I think they can/will spend their way out of it. Anyone else here submitting their resume to Mr. Henry? Suggestions for managers?

Varitek has been the knee-jerk response among many - If you were a Major League catcher and want to manage, it seems like you eventually become one by default. I'm always a fan of hiring someone who has manager experience at the AA or AAA level at least, but with a month before the season and a punishment of some sort looming, and the team also allegedly wanting to shed payroll, the options might be limited.

I met him at a game in Greenville in 2015. He was scouting, or charting, or something, and I'm not sure he's ever really left the team. He was personable/friendly (into talking about the 04 Series win, but not the A-Rod confrontation) and if he's half as good as Cash...sign me up.

Just wait, theres reports of 7 other teams that also stole signs. I'm guessing this is a league wide issue and the champs are the only the first of many teams that will be caught, including the yanks.

If they are looking in house, they might have to wait until MLB releases their findings on who was involved besides Cora in 2018.

I would imagine others who weren't players knew what was going on. Can't hire any of them if so.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they install Ron Roenicke (or someone else already on staff) as at least an interim manager for the season. With Pitchers and Catchers reporting soon, it's going to be hard to go through a full managerial search and hire someone who can learn the entire organization and implement a effective plan for the organization (Camp invites, Pitching & Hitting Philosophies, Bullpen planning, etc.) in such a short period of time.

If they do hire someone from outside the organization, look for it to be someone with previous ties to Chaim Bloom (likely someone from either the Rays or Dodgers organizations). I'd be curious to see if the Rays block Bloom from interviewing staff members this close to the start of the season - there's been some speculation that this could happen. However, it would be very on brand for this ownership group to install Jason Varitek into the managerial role in order to build some good will. I like Varitek and think he can be a good manager, but I'd have liked to see him have some on-field role (Bench Coach, Pitching Coach, etc.) before jumping straight into the managerial chair.

The Sox fired Cora because they saw the writing on the wall with the Houston penalties - they're trying to get out in front of this and be proactive, hoping this helps easy any punishment levied against the organization (like we see often with CBB teams putting themselves on probation for a year in hopes of the NCAA going easier on them).

FWIW - If I'm Houston, I wouldn't hire Buck Showalter for their managerial position. I think it's a questionable fit, as Buck traditionally has been responsible for helping build young teams and teach young players how to play at the MLB level. Jumping in to a Championship-caliber team seems to be a change from what he's historically been successful with.

I like Dusty...not so much a Showalter fan anymore. I liked him when he was on the broadcast end, but all those loser years in Baltimore seemed to have sucked the fun out of him and left him (understandably) bitter and less fun to be around.
